CHAPTER 461
Chapter 461
The call was from Allen.
Through the phone, Allen could sense that Gilbert was upset, really upset. The kind of anger that doesn’t show its face until it’s too late.
Lately, it had become apparent to everyone, including Allen, that Gilbert’s feelings towards Sherilyn had changed.
In the past, it was Sherilyn who was always chasing after Gilbert. Now, the tables had turned.
“Mr. Gilbert.” Allen couldn’t help but offer some advice. “You’re upset, but don’t take it out on Sherilyn. Girls need a bit of pampering, you know.”
With Gilbert’s temper, getting mad over every little thing, not just Sherilyn, but no girl would
stand for that.
“Besides…” Allen hesitated, saying, “you’re not exactly holding the winning cards here.”
“What do you mean?” Gilbert actually managed to ask, swallowing his pride.
“Think about it.” Allen laid it out, “Mr. Ferguson just took a bullet for Sherilyn! What do girls like? They love knowing someone puts them first. You can’t afford to lose any more points now.‘
”
“What kind of nonsense is this?”
Gilbert growled in frustration, “She’s playing two sides and she’s the one in the right? We’ll see about that!”
After hanging up, Gilbert lost his appetite for breakfast.
He left Golden Oak Manor and headed for the hospital.
The hospital room was quiet.
Sherilyn had come early, before Gilbert woke up, making it before her work shift. Conveniently, Edgar’s parents weren’t there either.
“Edgar.”
Sherilyn sat down beside the bed, setting down the fruit basket she brought. “How did the surgery go?”
“Pretty well,” Edgar said as he lifted his arm. “Don’t worry, didn’t hit any nerves.” He even wiggled his fingers to show her.
“That’s a relief.”

Sherilyn breathed easier, finally at ease.
“I’m sorry, you know, for leaving you alone last night. It was pretty rude of me.”
“It’s okay.” Edgar shook his head with a smile,” understand. It’s clear Gilbert cares a lot about you.”
Yet, he looked a bit worried, “He didn’t give you a hard time after last night, did he? You two didn’t fight?”
“No.” Sherilyn smiled gently, shaking her head. “Don’t worry about me. I’m doing fine.”
Edgar seemed to hesitate, then smiled resignedly, “Oh, that’s good. Really good.”
“Edgar.”
Sherilyn stood up, “Take care of yourself. I should get going.”
“Yeah, sure.”
“Goodbye.”
“Goodbye…”
As Sherilyn turned and let out a long breath, she pushed open the hospital room door. Property © of NôvelDrama.Org.
There, Gilbert stood tall, leaning against the hallway railing, silently watching her.
A shiver went through Sherilyn, her brow furrowing as she walked towards him with her bag slung over her shoulder.
He had followed her here.
In the end, she was caught red–handed.
Standing in front of him, she looked up, taking a deep breath, “This is a hospital. Can we talk outside, please?”
“Fine.” Gilbert raised an eyebrow and turned, leading the way.
Watching his back, Sherilyn felt her heart sink. His calmness… it scared her more.
What was he going to do?
Was he going to break up with her?
Sherilyn frowned, at a loss.
His car was parked downstairs. Once inside, neither spoke. It was too early for the hospital’s rush hour, eerily quiet.
Gilbert popped a throat lozenge into his mouth
Sherilyn finally broke the silence, “Edgar got hurt because of me. If his hand ends up with any lasting damage, I’d never be able to live with myself.

The man beside her remained silent, very still.
Sherilyn paused, then continued, “I came to see him today, but I won’t come again…”
