Whispers Turn

CHAPTER 460

She whipped around, glaring at him with a mix of anger and frustration. “Mr. Gilbert, so it’s do as I say, not as I do, huh?*

“What?” Gilbert was in the midst of buckling her into the seatbelt.

“Didn’t catch that?”

Sherilyn tilted her head back, locking eyes with him in a confrontational stare. “You can ditch me in the middle of our date to run off to your darling’s side! And I can’t even wait for a friend to come out of surgery?”

Gilbert’s eyes flickered, taken aback. “You’re blaming me?”

“No!” Sherilyn shook her head, clearly disagreeing. “I’m talking about fairness! I didn’t stand in your way of looking after your sweetheart, so please don’t stand in mine of being there for a friend, alright?”

“A friend?”

Gilbert gripped her wrist, a sardonic tone coloring his voice as he chewed over the words. “You and Edgar just met. I’ve known Caroline for years. You’re comparing Edgar to Caroline? He’s not even in the same league!”

With a scoff, he released her hand.

“Look at you, yelling at me over an ex–boyfriend, telling me he got stabbed tonight for you, making you fantasize about him again!”

What? Sherilyn was flabbergasted, speechless. How could someone be so unreasonable! He’s a lunatic, plain and simple!

Sherilyn turned her head away, closing her eyes in frustration, refusing to look at him any longer.

Silent now? Feeling guilty, perhaps?

Gilbert withdrew his gaze coldly and started the car.

The drive was silent, the tension thick in the air.

Upon arriving at Golden Oak Manor, the moment the car door unlocked, Sherilyn immediately opened her eyes, pushed the door open, and stepped out without a word, heading straight for the entrance.

“Where are you going?” Gilbert’s voice sounded cold from behind her.

Sherilyn didn’t bother to respond and kept walking.

“To the hospital? To see your ex?”

15:02

Gilbert’s laugh was chilly, his tone casual yet piercing. “Go ahead, I won’t stop you.”

Was he really being that generous?

Sure enough, in the next second, he added, “I’ve already notified his parents. By now, they should have arrived at the hospital.”

Sherilyn’s spine stiffened, freezing in place.

Hmph. Gilbert’s laugh was faint and cold, and without another word, he turned and walked inside.

Sherilyn turned around, only to see his retreating, indifferent figure…

Sherilyn guessed he must have gone to his study.

It was always like this.

Whenever they argued, he’d retreat to his study.

Did he think she’d come running after him? NôvelDrama.Org content rights.

Who was really at fault tonight?

Sherilyn didn’t bother with him, grabbed some clothes, took a shower, turned off the lights, and went to bed.

The next day, Gilbert woke up early.

Mainly because the sofa in the study was a bit too short, leaving his neck sore and his back aching from a night of uncomfortable sleep.

Checking his phone, there were no missed calls or messages.

Sherilyn hadn’t reached out to him all night!

Gilbert tossed his phone aside, wondering what he was even hoping for.

Footsteps approached from outside.

Was Sherilyn up? Could it be, she was coming to see him? But no.

The footsteps grew louder and then faded away.

It wasn’t even seven yet, why was Sherilyn up so early? Her dance troupe didn’t start work this early.

Gilbert picked up his phone again and dialed a number. “It’s me…”

After hanging up, Gilbert got up and returned to the master bedroom.

By the time he was dressed and came downstairs, the housekeeper was already busy in the kitchen.

15:02

Seeing him, she promptly served breakfast.

“Mr. Johnson, your breakfast is ready.”

“Mhm.” Gilbert pulled out a chair to sit down, took a sip of his coffee, then his phone rang. “Yes, speak.”

“Mr. Gilbert, Sherilyn… she’s arrived at the hospital.”
