Under the Heiress' Facade

Chapter 638

Chapter 638

When Hera arrived at the consultation room, Gemma was toying with her bracelet while Xavier glanced around the room.

Seeing her, Xavier quickly approached and shoved the thermos container at Hera. "Here, pretty lady. I made some food for you. Please eat."

"No need." Hera glanced at the thermos container he was offering and didn't take it.

Xavier was persistent and pushed the thermos container toward her. "Eat."

"I'm sorry, Ms. Youngworth. I told him last night that you saved him. And when he heard we were coming here today, he insisted on bringing the food he made for you," Gemma explained.

She tried to take the thermos container from Xavier. "Xavier, she isn't hungry right now. Let's see the doctor first, okay? I'll hold this for you."

"No!" Xavier hugged the thermos container protectively, refusing to let her touch it no matter how much she coaxed.

"Come with me." Hera glanced at the thermos container Xavier was guarding and led him into the empty consultation room.

Xavier obediently followed her inside. Gemma asked before Hera could close the door, "May I accompany Xavier? He might be scared."

Before Hera could refuse, Xavier huffed. "I'm not scared. The pretty lady saved me, so I'm not afraid."

"Hera doesn't like being disturbed during consultations. Please wait in here, Ms. Killian," Catherine explained. Gemma glanced at Xavier. Seeing that he didn't need her, she sighed and followed Catherine to the waiting room. Once the door closed, Hera made sure to lock it. She turned around to see Xavier, still playing the part of a naive child, examining the room while clutching the thermos container.

"This room has no surveillance, and the soundproofing is good." Hera pulled out a chair and sat down.

Only then did Xavier's facade slip away. His expression became serious as he stared at Hera. "You're investigating the person who killed my father, aren't you?"

Hera had been wondering how to get him to talk about his father's case, but she hadn't expected him to bring it up himself.

His words made it clear that he, too, didn't believe that Lucius was responsible for his father's death.

Seeing the sincerity in his gaze, Hera felt a surge of emotion.NôvelDrama.Org is the owner.

Since she started investigating her adoptive mother's killer and the murderer who framed her adoptive father, putting him in prison, Xavier was the first person who had stood so firmly on her side, believing that Lucius wasn't responsible for Greg's death.

Even though Bernard had given her a lot of help, he had never expressed such unwavering belief in Lucius.

"Yes." Hera nodded. But she was still curious. "Why do you believe that my father... that Lucius isn't your father's killer?"

The victim's family usually wouldn't be defending the suspect.

"Back then, I also believed that Uncle Lucius killed my father to seize power. I hated him at the time," Xavier explained. "But after seeing how Aunt Daphne constantly sought evidence to clear his name and how she would come to my mother to analyze the case, I began to have doubts.

"Only someone falsely accused would be more desperate than the victim's family to uncover the truth. And that's what Aunt Daphne did."

He continued, "But then, just a day before Aunt Daphne was going to expose the culprit, she died in a car accident. My mother said it wasn't an accident, and that's when I fully believed Uncle Lucius was innocent. But my mother wouldn't let me speak up. She said we'd end up like Aunt Daphne if we did.

"So, she forced me to fake being sick, to act crazy and foolish. I'm not allowed to talk about it and am forbidden from involving myself in any of the Killian family's business. She thinks it's the only way I can survive in the Killian family."

In the end, Xavier's mother passed away, leaving Xavier to fend for himself. He did survive, but he lived a life of constant hardship.

Hera felt a lump in her throat when she remembered how Xavier had even stuffed dirt into his mouth to maintain the act.

But now wasn't the time for pity. She took a deep breath and asked, "So, who's the real culprit?"

"I don't know." Xavier shook his head. "My mother doesn't want to involve me. She refuses to tell me anything no matter how much I ask."
