Chapter 637
At the same time, Hera was at the dining table, tasting the freshly made hummingbird cake that Bernard had prepared.
Bernard had expertly balanced the ingredients, and the sweetness level was just right.
The outer layer was chewy, while the inside was crispy and flavorful. It was better than the imported ones he bought.
Hera had always preferred the savory version of these cakes as the sweet ones often had too much sugar. But her opinion changed after tasting his creation.
"How is it?" Bernard leaned on the table, watching Hera take a small bite of the cake.
Hera nodded. "It's good. You could open a restaurant if you ever lose your job."
This was a compliment. His cooking skills were exceptional, making it hard for her to resist.
"I could, but I don't need to wait until I lose my job. I can open one now." Bernard straightened up and adjusted
his apron, striking a waiter's pose. "I'd only serve you in my restaurant."
Hera's heart skipped a beat at this, and suddenly, the cake seemned even sweeter.
"How's our new dish, Ms. Youngworth? Is it tasty? Do you like it?" Bernard continued his act.
Hera played along and nodded. "It's delicious. I like it."© 2024 Nôv/el/Dram/a.Org.
"Is it better than the one Thiago's mom made?" Bernard seized the opportunity.
Hera suddenly suspected that all his efforts were just to ask this question.
"Is it that hard to judge?" Bernard cocked a brow when she didn't respond.
Seeing his serious expression, Hera knew he would likely get jealous again if she complimented both. So, she sighed. "Yours is better."
Bernard was satisfied. "I thought so too. Since you think her cake isn't good, let's throw away the slices left in the fridge. From now on, I'll make it for you whenever you want."
He went to the fridge, took out the remaining hummingbird cake that Thiago had brought for Hera, and threw them into the trash.
Hera felt speechless. Wasn't this going too far?
"Hera, the Killian family is here." Wayne came in.
Bernard frowned at this.
Hera immediately put down the cake and was about to get up, but Bernard pressed her down. "Finish eating first." Then, he said to Wayne, "Let them wait."
Hera sighed helplessly and quickly finished the cake. She looked at him. "Are you satisfied now?"
Bernard noticed she was in a rush to leave, with stains still on the corner of her mouth, he reminded her, "Your mouth is dirty."
Eager to see what clues Xavier might've brought, Hera grabbed a napkin and wiped her mouth before leaving. "You still have some stains." Bernard pulled her back
Hera handed him the napkin. "Where's the stain? You wipe it."
Bernard lifted her chin and kissed her, kissing away the stains from the corner of her mouth before finally letting her go.
