The Billionaire's Regret

Chapter 102

Chapter 102

Ivy chewed on the fish without expression. She couldn’t taste the freshness of it because there was no seasoning. The fish was washed up on the beach by the sea, and Vince picked it up and roasted it over some dried leaves. Except for the salty and fishy odor, it was bland and tasteless. “I’d like to eat at that old French restaurant on the streets of Paris, paired with a glass of white wine. It’s simply perfect.” Vince ate with gusto. When he heard her words, he looked up at her and smiled as he approached. “Ivy, if you don’t want to eat, you can give it to me.” He made a move to take the fish from her. Ivy ducked and glared at him as she guarded her food. “You’d better keep an eye out! Otherwise, Simba will bite you.” Simba bared its teeth at Vince from the side. “If you’re bored, go dress up as an indigenous person,” Vince suggested tentatively. “I’ll show you around their neighborhood.” Ivy immediately shook her head. He wanted her to walk to her death out of boredom? Even hearing the words “indigenous people” scared her, let alone dressing up like them! No way! The sky was cloudless, revealing an endless clean, and clear blue stretch. The sea breeze blew in waves. It was both refreshing and natural. Ivy, on the other hand, was unimpressed. When would her troubling and thrilling days come to an end? The sudden sound of a rumbling engine roar came from the distant sea just as she was immersed in her infinite sadness. Before Vince could react, Ivy dashed out to a higher elevation and waved to the small shadow in the sea. “Help…!” The speedboat got closer and closer, and the sound got louder. However, Vince grabbed her and yanked her away before Ivy could be happy, his voice cold and

relentless. “Hurry up and run! They’re pirates.” Ivy’s face darkened as she shut her mouth. She grabbed Simba and began to run. Vince almost laughed exasperatedly when he saw how eager she was to flee. “Run into the jungle!” Ivy’s voice was hesitant, but her steps were steady. “Aren’t their indigenous people in there?” “They’re much nicer than the pirates. At least.” He has a point! They ran without looking back, determined and persistent. The cold wind pierced and hurt their faces. They ran until they were out of breath but did not dare stop for even a second. This was a far more serious situation than the one on that rainy night! That was because they could hear the pirates’ rough footsteps and unbridled laughter behind them as they fired a few warning gunshots. It was like a savage and primitive game of chase, with them as the prey. Ivy’s fear had never surfaced so quickly. Every nerve in her body seemed to tremble in fear. She slipped, and her knees slammed to the ground with a dull thud. It sounded like she broke a bone. Vince turned around to see her biting her lower lip in pain. He attempted to approach her so that he could carry her. On the other hand, Ivy pushed him away and gritted her teeth, standing up with her hands braced on the ground. She gave him a gloomy grin. “Save your energy. I can still run.” Vince looked at her and finally nodded. He reached out and grabbed her arm while running forward, not pausing for a second. Ivy’s knee was in excruciating pain. Her leg felt as if it was about to be paralyzed. But she couldn’t stop herself. She ran numbly, but the cold sweat beading on her brow revealed the agony she was trying so hard to bear! The gunshots behind them grew louder as the footsteps approached.

Ivy’s heart shuddered violently. It felt like a hand was squeezing her throat, and her body’s limits fought against her consciousness. She obeyed her consciousness’s commands without hesitation. The sound of gunfire punctuated the cold wind. They didn’t even dare to take a breather! Their expressions darkened, but all they could do was pick up the pace and dash forward. The pirates must have noticed Ivy’s SOS mark and tracked them down. When they saw the smoke rising from the primitive tribe ahead, they breathed a sigh of relief. Vince drew her around the side and hid behind a large and thick tree trunk. This was where they had previously kept the dried branches. The branches still had a strong fish oil odor. For the nth time, they heard gunshots! The gunshot alarmed the indigenous people, who stood up in panic and vigilance, wielding their wooden clubs. Vince and Ivy exchanged a glance. Vince had a solemn expression on his face, and his eyes were alert. He made a shushing motion with his index finger to his lips. Then they heard a flurry of hurried footsteps. The indigenous people ran and stepped on tree branches, their mouths yelling an unreadable language. It sounded like someone was issuing a serious warning. The sound of their guns accompanied the pirates’ angry insults. For a while, the atmosphere was tense. Because they possessed firearms, the pirates were unafraid of the indigenous people. The natives, however, outnumbered the pirates and had a limited supply of bullets, so they did not have a significant advantage. What enraged them even more, was that they had followed their “prey” to this location but found nothing but the primitive tribe. They’d been duped. “Are there really primitive people in this place? Damn it! Killing them is a waste of bullets!” “That explorer ought to be nearby. I’m curious if he’s a big fish.” “Once we catch him, we’ll know. Kill him if he’s not valuable.” NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.

Only three pirates showed up. When their conversation reached Ivy’s ears, her hair stood on end. Her heart skipped a beat and jumped to her throat. She was so worried that her heart would burst at any moment. The three pirates began shooting indiscriminately. Someone was hurt as a result of the indigenous people becoming frightened and fleeing in disarray. The indigenous people’s weapons made of tree branches were no match for the pirates’ guns. The pirates raided the tribe, tossing tents and firewood aside. They even kicked some of the skinny indigenous people aside. The indigenous people’s miserable cries and the pirates’ boisterous laughter merged into a cacophony of loud noise. The noise grew closer and closer until it was almost directly in front of Ivy and Vince’s hiding place in the tree. Ivy froze in place, holding her breath and not daring to make even a single move. It was as if she had eyes above her head that were staring at her. The numbness in her scalp seemed to be edging her closer to death. It was such excruciating torture that it sent shivers down her spine. ‘What should I do now?’ “Ah!!!” The indigenous people issued an alarming war cry at this critical juncture. They started fighting back against the pirates who had attacked them. The pirates cursed angrily and avoided the indigenous people’s ambush the next second. Ivy and Vince exhaled a sigh of relief as well. “Please don’t kill them! There will be far too many of them. Killing them will enrage them even more! Let’s take a break first!” yelled one of the pirates. The situation quickly changed. The indigenous people’s combined strength was beyond their wildest dreams. Those who had previously fled in all directions took up arms and prepared to fight. They swung their clubs and spikes at the pirates, threatening them.

The pirates were reluctant to leave, but they didn’t have any other option. Otherwise, if they ran out of bullets and were apprehended, they would be unable to flee. They fled quickly, injuring several indigenous people along the way, as the rest of the indigenous people pursued them in a frenzy. Ivy and Vince exchanged relieved sighs. Their faces are still miserably pale. They smiled contentedly as they realized they had just escaped the clutches of death. Vince maintained his vigilance and carefully scouted for the presence of any indigenous people. “We’ll take a different route to avoid coming across any of them.” Ivy, of course, trusted Vince’s knowledge and nodded in agreement. They were about to leave when they were startled by a roaring sound in the air. It sounded like a helicopter, but not just any aircraft. Simba abruptly poked his head out of Ivy’s pocket. “Someone hacked my tracker and began using the satellite to determine my location. It could be Shaira Winter or Great God Ryan, Mama!”
