My Pretty Sweetheart (Arianna)

Chapter 2070

Chapter 2070

During lunch hour, there would be crowds of people, all in a hurry. Many looked forward to enjoying a scrumptious lunch and pondered on how they could efficiently take their afternoon naps to cope with the heavy workload. Beggars were everywhere on the streets, so they didn't notice the couple at first.

Suanne knelt on the ground, she was pleading desperately for help.

"Please, please call an ambulance!"

"Sir, please give us some water. I know you're a kind man. I haven't had any water for three days. I'm dying..."

"Miss! Miss, please, help us, please, I beg of you, I'm begging you..."

"I'm down on my knees. Please save us. Please, save us..."

Some busybodies stopped and watched her. One by one, they gradually formed a circle around the couple.

Someone recognized Nathan as he asked, "Isn't that the world famous psychology professor Nathan Marshall who had returned recently?"

"That's his wife. Why is she so injured? Did she do something bad and got punished because of it?"

"Should we call the police? They aren't going to die here, are they?"

"Have you gone mad? Have you never watched a movie before? They were thrown out onto the street, so there must be someone watching nearby. If you help them, before you know it, the unlucky ones will be you and me!"

"Besides, they're horrendously greedy. You have no idea how big of a waste of time it will be if we help them. We may not have time to clock back in at the office. Then all of our work this afternoon will be for nothing!"

With things as they are, these onlookers, who had thought about lending a helping hand, immediately gave up on the idea.

Nathan had never expected that ordinary people, who he viewed as worthless, would be the ones to determine his life or death with a few simple words.

Everyone in the square fell silent.

Other than Suanne's wailing, the only thing they could hear was a large advertisement that was broadcasting a promotion. It looked as though they were competing with her to prove that saving a couple of dollars was more important than saving their lives. The volume of the advertisement's jingle grew louder and louder, slowly drowning out Suanne's hoarse cries.

For those who worked a nine to five job, time was money. It was considered a waste of time to stop and watch them. One by one, the passers-by began to leave.

They walked off freely without looking back. If they were to recall the day's events, they might not even remember running into Suanne and Nathan.

They wouldn't even be considered

indifferent onlookers, as they were subjects to exploitation by people like Nathah. People who dominated and stood at the top of the pyramid, people who prioritize their lives over everyone else.

These members of the upper class of society exploited the workers at the bottom of the chain. This is what has led to their situation right now, where Nathan was severely injured on a busy street, but no one offered to help him.

This was a causal loop. If someone treated commoners indifferently, commoners would return the favor with the same level of indifference. There were also people who were excessively sympathetic in the world, but unfortunately, Suanne and Nathan weren't lucky enough to run

into them.Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.

After being under the scorching sun for half an hour, Suanne's throat had dried up. She opened her mouth to continue shouting but couldn't make a sound. Her body swayed and she soon fell onto the floor with a loud thud.

There were only a few passers-by left in the square. Those that walked by the

couple, deliberately sped up their pace and hurried away. No one knew whether they were actually in a hurry or if they simply wanted to leave this dangerous place as soon as possible.

Later that afternoon, there were only two bodies left in the center of the square, no one knew whether they were dead or alive.

Hendrix looked away with his icy glare. The car window wound up, blocking him from the view outside, as thought signifying the end of Hendrix's kinship with the Marshall family.
