Chapter 1983
Chapter 1983
There were so many things to figure out with everything that had happened in those six years.
For example, why was Irvin the first person I saw when I woke up? Why had he been missing for such a long time? And why did he become my fiance?
Why did the Reid and Moore families leave, while the Roberts took power?
And the written obituary, which could only be published by the family, how could that be made if Hendrix wasn't present...?
As I looked at him, I gripped the hem of my dress.
I was trying hard to stay calm.
Hendrix was the man I had once loved. In these six years, I wonder if Hendrix still loved me the way he did before, despite the tender "nurturing" of the Marshall family.
Hendrix was probably aware that he was being looked at, so he immediately turned his face away. He then said coldly, "That has nothing to do with you."
He placed one hand on the steering wheel and took another drag of his cigarette. He then said even indifferently, "Remember, you're just a stand- in for Arianna."
Maybe it was the smoke that contributed to his deep voice and despondent look. He seemed to be carrying a lot of secrets with him. His smooth jawline seemed to have the beginnings of stubble, revealing his inner conflict.
Seeing that he had no intention of saying anything else, I gave up.
You couldn't wake up someone who was pretending to be asleep. Besides, no one could force Hendrix to speak if he didn't want to.
After sitting by the river for over an hour, Hendrix finished his cigarette. He then started the engine and drove home.
As we were halfway there, Wynn called to tell me that he wanted to eat the cake he had missed at the mall from last time. As we passed by the mall, I told Hendrix to stop the car.
When I was about to unfasten my seat belt, Hendrix said faintly, "Just call someone to deliver it over to the house, what's the point of going the extra mile for this kind of thing?"
After a brief pause, I looked up and
rolled my eyes at him, "Because a gift means a lot more when you've gone to get it personally. Never mind, it's not your fault for not
knowing. How can I expect the
great
business genius, Hendrix, too understand the importance of familial love? Don't worry I won't be a bother to you. I'll go in by myself, you can just wait for me here."
After that, I pushed the door open and got out of the car. A burly figure followed close behind me, then walked alongside me.
As I looked up, all I could see was Hendrix's haughty face.
"I thought you said this was a waste of time?"
Hendrix didn't even look at me and replied, "My son is worth it."
"Really..." His overconfidence rendered me speechless.
Instead of replying to him, I turned around and deliberately took large steps forcing him to catch up with me.
I found the bakery on the ground floor, which sold the cake Wynn loved. I was so delighted that I pointed at the cake in the cupboard and said, "Please wrap this for me. Thank you."
The store manager didn't appear to
be keen on serving me as he frowned slightly. After packing up my cake in a takeaway box, he just handed it to me without giving me a bag to carry it in.
Afraid that Hendrix would lose his temper if I waited too long, I just let it be. Upon taking it, I took out my wallet and asked, "How much does it cost?" "It's free! Just hurry up and get out" The store manager packed up the rest of the pastries in a hurry. He then pressed the Bluetooth headset on his ear and said, "It's closed, please come back another day."
For free?
Was the store closing at 7pm?Property of Nô)(velDr(a)ma.Org.
"My goodness, was he some rich person rushing to live his life?"
