Chapter 1978
Chapter 1978
I accompanied Wynn in the backseat while Hendrix sat in the front, each of us tacitly choosing to keep quiet about Aaron.
Wynn and I had endless topics to talk about whenever we were together. As soon as we got in the car, Wynn began to share about his time at school.
Suddenly, my mind drifted over to Aurelia while we were waiting for the traffic light, so I interrupted him and asked, "Wynn, you don't like the kids at school because you think they're boring, right? So, what if you had a sister who was also very childish, would you hate her as well?"
"Of course not." Wynn shouted back without any hesitation, "I will protect my sister and stay with her all the time, and I will never let her get bullied by other people!"
Despite his tender tone, he spoke firmly. Anyone can see how much he cared about his sister.
I rubbed his head and gave him a look of approval. "It's so amazing to see Wynn grow up and become a man!"
When I turned my head away, I caught a glimpse of Hendrix peeking at us from the rearview mirror.
When I noticed him, he quickly averted his gaze. All I could see in the mirror after that was his cold, frosty face.
This was a look that was condescendingly contemptuous and was also a silent warning.
Hendrix didn't seem to care that I had told Wynn about Aurelia. In other words, he probably felt that he had always had the rights to owning custody over the both of them.
Soon, we arrived at the Marshall family villa.
Hendrix led the way while Wynn held on to me and followed behind.
"Mr. Hendrix. Master Wynn." The servants greeted us respectfully, but the hall was quiet. We must have arrived early.
Upon entering the building, I realized I had completely misjudged them.
They were all here, the entire
Marshall family. They were seated down in the living room sofa, reading the newspaper and swiping on their phones, they weren't talking to each other. There was no interaction at all. The atmosphere was so quiet, it felt suffocating.
Hearing our footsteps, Jennifer was the first to look up. When she spotted me, her eyes narrowed sharply.
Hendrix, however, stepped in front of me, just in time to stop us from getting into a glaring contest.
When Jennifer was forced to drop the whole thing, her face fell. She then threw her phone aside, crossed her arms in front of her chest, and huffed impatiently.
Hendrix ignored her and continued to lead us into the room, maintaining his blank face.
As soon as he stood still, he heard
Jennifer say gloomy, "Hendrix, seems like you've been much too busy lately. You must have grown confused after driving me out of the company. It's a family banquet
tonight, not just anyone is allowed to attend." This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - ©.
Hendrix maintained his stoic demeanor and looked behind him. Evan came trotting through the door with a pile of gifts.
"This is a small token of appreciation prepared by the child's mother," Hendrix said lightly.
I was confused as to when these items had been prepared. Could Hendrix have guessed that I would leave Aaron behind and come back to attend this banquet with him?
I looked at Hendrix, there was a complex feeling in my heart.
Nathan didn't even lift his eyes, simply ignoring Evan as he
continued to hold on to the gift
The situation became very awkward and Evan stood there like a
Statue.
Suddenly, an elegant man's voice spoke, "We're all family here. No need for formalities. Butler, please take those gifts and put them down nicely."
Hearing this, the butler stepped forward, trembling, and took the gifts. The mood calmed down after that.
