Chapter 239
The room fell into a deafening silence.
William and Mark shared a puzzled glance. This was Eileen Lopez?
They had only spoken to Ms. Lopez once over the phone before. From that conversation, they had gathered that she was a seasoned financial advisor with a keen eye for stock market trends and strong forecasting abilities.
They thought she should be in her forties. Yet, the girl standing before them...
How old was she? Was she even of age?
After Eileen introduced herself and saw that the two men remained still, she raised an eyebrow and asked, "Well?"
Shaken back into reality, William quickly shook Eileen's hand and stuttered, "Ms. Lopez, you are... remarkably youthful?" Eileen chuckled. Ignoring the others, she suggested to the two men in front of her, "Shall we discuss elsewhere?"
They gladly agreed.
Suddenly, Ableson stepped forward and blocked their path!
Ableson stared at Eileen with a twisted face and demanded, "What are you trying to pull, Eileen? Who do you think you are to impersonate me? I could have you arrested for identity theft!"
Eileen regarded Ableson indifferently. Due to the presence of foreign guests, she softened her words, "Mr. Lopez, it's unwise to make a scene without knowing the full story. It'll only reveal your lack of intellect."
Enraged, Ableson barked, "What did you say?! You little... Ahhh!!!" Before he could finish, he felt an excruciating pain in his foot. His scalp tingled with shock!
Looking down, he saw Eileen's sharp stiletto heel digging into his foot! The intense pain soaked him in cold sweat.
"Let go! Let go!" Ableson shrieked.
Eileen casually removed her foot and said apologetically, "Sorry, that was unintentional."
The commotion drew the attention of the rest of the party.
Many people looked over. Zack, who was at the forefront of the spectators, even started recording the scene on his phone.
Ableson stumbled back, his foot injured. He glared at Eileen, his face red with anger.
This girl was mad! And not just a little!
Ableson hissed through gritted teeth, "You heartless little bitch! I should never have taken you in, you... Ahhh!"
No one saw what had happened. All they saw was Ableson's face suddenly caving in, as if hit by a meteor. He was sent flying onto the buffet table, knocking over the entire thing!
Drinks and dishes shattered on the floor, drenching Ableson.
The spectators gasped.
William, Mark, and Blake, who were in the front row, were all stunned, their faces a picture of astonishment.
The party hall went silent. The music stopped. It was as quiet as a graveyard.
The sound of high heels clicking on the floor echoed through the room.
The girl in a long black dress slowly approached the bloodied Ableson. She shook her delicate hand, looking down at the man on the floor, his face a bloody mess.
She said lightly, "Sorry, that wasn't on purpose either."
Blood covered Ableson's head, shards of glass stuck in his skin. Blood flowed into his eyes, staining his vision red. He looked up at the girl standing over him.
She was backlit by the harsh chandelier above, blinding him.
"You... you..."
Eileen glanced at Blake and said, "For an unruly dog, Mr. Blake, you might choose to scratch it lightly, like treating a homeless animal. That's a mild deterrent. But I think, some dogs won't behave until they've been hurt."
Eileen looked back at Ableson and asked with a smile, "Isn't that right, Mr. Lopez? Have you learned your lesson?"
Ableson trembled as he looked at Eileen, who straightened up and adjusted her slightly wrinkled sleeve, "I have a meeting with representatives from A&T Group. I don't have time to chat with you. Mr. Lopez, I'll be attending the shareholder meeting next Monday at ten in the morning, and I'll be taking the main seat."
She turned to William and Mark, extending her hand, "Gentlemen..."
Before Eileen could finish, William and Mark both stepped back, maintaining a safe distance of at least ten meters from Eileen!
Eileen stunned for a second. Then she gestured in the air with her hand and continued politely, "Gentlemen, this way please."
Eventually, William and Mark hesitantly followed Eileen to another area to chat.
Laird walked out from the crowd, looking dejected. He looked at Ableson on the floor and the whispering crowd around him. Finally, his gaze fell on Blake.
Seeing Blake deep in thought, Laird patted him on the shoulder, "I feel helpless too. What's going on? My party was going so well... why did it turn out like this..."
Blake turned to look at Laird and suddenly asked, "Do you think I should hire a boxing coach?"
Laird was taken aback, "What?"
Blake looked serious, "Was it really like a small scratch? I thought I hit pretty hard... What kind of boxing should I learn? Muay Thai? Or should I learn Chinese martial art?"
Laird was speechless.
Eileen was engaged in a twenty-minute conversation with William and Mark over at the lounge area. After discussing work, the two men seemed a little less intimidated by Eileen.
Curiously, they asked, "Was that some sort of martial arts, Ms. Lopez?"
Eileen took a small sip of her champagne and shook her head. "Just some simple self-defence techniques for women. You know, it's good for us girls to know a few moves to protect ourselves when necessary."
William and Mark were full of praise. "That looked incredibly impressive!"
Eileen modestly replied, "It really didn't hurt him. I barely touched him, and he stumbled because he's not very fit. He fell into the buffet table, which had nothing to do with me."
Understanding dawned on the two men. Mark said, "I knew it! Ms. Lopez, you look so elegant and gentle, how could you possibly have such strength to knock down a grown man?"
Eileen chuckled, "Exactly, I'm very ge..."
At that moment, William's phone rang. As he pulled his phone out of his pocket, he accidentally pulled out his slightly loose wedding ring, which he had been planning to have tightened at the store the next day.
The diamond ring rolled around on the floor before finally ending up under the couch.novelbin
Startled, William quickly crouched down and reached under the couch, but to no avail.
Mark stood up. "Let's get a staff member to..."
Before Mark could finish his sentence, the couch they had just been sitting on, a robust and heavy piece that was over seven feet long and more than three feet wide, was suddenly lifted up fully.
Eileen was holding the couch aloft with one hand, and then she turned to look at William, who was crouched on the floor in front of the couch, gaping at her in disbelief. She asked with concern, "Did you find it?"
Both William and Mark were dumbfounded.
William shakily picked up the ring from the floor, and he and Mark quickly retreated several steps, standing a considerable distance from Eileen. Eileen placed the couch back down and sat down herself. She dusted her hands off and said, "Good that you found it. It looks quite expensive, it would have been a shame to lose it."
Eileen continued, "Come on, sit down, gentlemen. Where were we? Oh, you were saying how quiet and gentle I am. Indeed, I am rather refined and reserved, so please don't take advantage of me in our future collaborations because I'm easy to talk to and inexperienced...Oh, Mr. William, Mr. Mark, are you alright? Why are you sweating?"
