Chapter 1289
"Who sent you?" Pearl demanded, her voice firm.
The reporter swallowed hard. "I won't tell you, not with the way you're acting."
"What way? You expect me to treat you like royalty or something?" Pearl retorted.
"We live in a country with laws. If you harm me, you'll end up in jail," the reporter shot back, trying to sound brave.
Pearl couldn't help but laugh. "Jail? You think I'm scared of going to jail?" She noticed he didn't seem scared at all, which intrigued her. "Ever heard of Evil Spirits?"
The reporter's face went pale. He knew about Evil Spirits, a name that made everyone tremble. But he'd always thought he would never encounter them. Now, the mention of them by this seemingly harmless woman threw him off balance.
"Who are you to them?" he asked, a hint of fear in his voice.
"It's clear I have some power, right?" Pearl said calmly.
Even Esther, who was usually unfazed, was taken aback by this revelation. "Pearl, you're the leader of the gang?" she whispered, shocked.
Pearl felt stressed out. "I can't get into that right now. I'll explain later," she said quickly, and Esther nodded in understanding.
The reporter seemed less confident now. He knew of the organization's reputation; they were not to be messed with.
"So, will you answer my question now?" Pearl asked with a gentle smile. All text © NôvelD(r)a'ma.Org.
"I..." The reporter faltered, realizing he was outmatched. "Fine, I'll be honest. I was hired by Lawson Enterprises, but I haven't been paid yet, so really, it's not my problem."
He tried to distance himself from the mess he was in. Besides, he wasn't making that much money.
Pearl, however, was already thinking ahead to Lawson Enterprises. This wasn't their first attempt against her; they had meddled with the medication at the factory and targeted Esther in the hospital. Now, they were using the media against her. She wouldn't let them get away with it.
Keeping quiet wasn't an option anymore. It would only encourage them further.
"You want to get out of this alive, right?" Pearl smirked.
The reporter quickly nodded. "Yes, absolutely. Ask me anything, I'll tell you everything."
Pearl was pleased with his cooperation. "Alright then, tell me about all your communications with them. What you discussed, any proof you have-send it all to me."
The reporter hesitated, surprised she knew he'd have evidence. He hadn't told anyone he'd kept copies of everything.
