Your Guise Is Slipping, Miss Pearl

Chapter 1273

"I'm not trying to bother your husband, but..." Rosie's eyes showed her worry. "I need to raise my child, and I need money. I had to talk to him."This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.

Agnes felt a mix of pity and worry. She knew Rosie had no one to turn to and saw her only as a threat to her family's happiness.

The truth was, ever since Rosie appeared, Agnes's life had been turned upside down. But Agnes knew her husband's ways; he had been unfaithful with many women, including Rosie.

"You can tell me how much money you need. I'll help you," Agnes said, taking a deep breath. "But you have to promise never to come back to Enswood."

Rosie was confused. They had never met before today, so why would Agnes want to help her, especially after everything? "Thank you, Mrs. Crawford, but I don't think that's a good idea, "she replied.

Agnes frowned. "Are you trying to keep coming back for more money?"

Rosie turned pale. "No, that's not it. I never wanted to cause trouble and destroy your family.

Agnes didn't want to hear more. She pulled a card from her purse. "There's a hundred thousand dollars on this card, enough to raise your child well," she said, pushing her glasses up. "Take it."

Initially embarrassed, Rosie thought of her young son and accepted the card. "Thank you so much, Mrs. Crawford. I'll repay you someday."

Agnes waved dismissively. "You seem different from those after our money. Just stay away after this, including your son. I don't want him coming back for any inheritance."

Rosie smiled with relief. "Thank you. I promise he won't meet his father."

"Good. I need to go now. It's getting late."

As Agnes turned to leave, a scream stopped her. She hid and peeked around the corner to see Rosie on the ground, motionless, as a man grabbed the card from her.

"My boss sent me to kill Spencer Crawford's wife. Sorry you got caught up in this," the man said, looking at the card with a greedy smile. "That's what it's like for a rich man's wife. So much money."

He then turned and walked away.

Agnes, nervous and jittery, accidentally stepped on a pebble and made a loud noise.

Startled by a noise, the man yelled, "Who's there?"

Silent and scared, Agnes made a cat-like noise.

"Oh, it's just a cat," the man muttered and moved on.

Agnes stayed hidden until everything was quiet. "He was here to kill me," she realized, horrified. "If it weren't for Rosie, I could have been the one on the ground..."
