Chapter 9 The Sentiment of That Night
“Reject him,” Elijah pushed open the office door, “bring me a cup of coffee.”
Having said that, he walked towards his desk.
“Mr Vega said if you don’t see him, he won’t leave today.” The secretary informed.
Elijah glanced back at the secretary, who immediately lowered her head.
“Bring him in.” Seated, Elijah unbuttoned his suit jacket.
Soon, the secretary brought in coffee along with Ronan Vega.
Ronan Vega looked resentful and questioned immediately, “Where did you find that woman?”
Elijah lifted his coffee, gesturing for the secretary to leave before meeting his gaze.
“Look at what she did to me?” Ronan Vega pointed to his neck, a clear scar, and his wrist was bandaged. “She almost severed my tendons.”
Elijah’s gaze moved from his injury, and he felt a slight pleasure.
“Precisely, how did it happen?” Elijah asked knowingly.
Ronan Vega shuddered, “She had a knife! Remarkably skillful, nearly cut my major artery. Iy didn’t get what I wanted, and I almost lost my life. I want to know, where did you find that woman?”
Hearing that Ronan Vega didn’t benefit from Freya Stone, Elijah’s mood improved. He leaned back in his chair, cold as usual. “Why are you looking for her?”
“To take revenge.”
When had Ronan Vega suffered such a setback?
However, Elijah had no idea about Freya Stone’s life and work.
“If you want revenge, find her yourself.”
Ronan Vega hesitated. “Fine, I’ll handle it myself. Once I find her, I’ll cripple her hands first, see if she dares to use a knife against me again!”
He said resentfully.
In the hospital, Freya Stone came out of the examination room, feeling a sudden chill for no apparent reason.
Was someone cursing her?
“Dr Stone, there’s a farewell party for Dr Valentine tonight at 8 p. m. at the Royal Garden Plaza Hotel. Remember to come.”
A colleague saw Freya Stone and reminded her. Freya, hands in the pockets of her white coat, responded with an “Hmm” and felt extremely reluctant to go. Thinking of Liora Valentine and Elijah’s relationship, she felt a chill in her heart.
At 8 p. m., Freya arrived at the farewell party venue. As she was about to enter, she saw a car stopping at the entrance. Liora Valentine got out of the car, followed by Elijah.
Freya quickly hid behind a pillar. Peeking out, she saw the two standing together, looking quite compatible. Elijah Silverton seemed to like Liora Valentine; he willingly attended such an event. Almost everyone from the hospital would be here tonight.
“Thank you for coming today,” Liora Valentine, elegantly made up, wearing a sophisticated dress, said with a hint of shyness.
“We’re friends.” Elijah replied. He was willing to attend such an event because of the sentiment of that night.
Liora Valentine wanted to be more intimate, but her own words became an obstacle. She could only maintain a dignified demeanor. “Let’s go inside.”
As they walked away, Freya came out from behind the pillar. Facing Elijah, she felt a strong aversion. So she decided to call Liora Valentine and explain that she was in an emergency and couldn’t come.
Just as she took out her mobile phone and was about to dial the number, a colleague came over and called, “Dr Stone.”
Liora Valentine looked back from the front.
Freya Stone’s hand holding the phone stiffened for a moment, and she accidentally pressed the dial button. By the time she reacted, Liora’s phone had already rang.
She hung up hurriedly, twitching the corners of her lips, “Sorry, I pressed the wrong button.”
The voice seemed familiar. Elijah turned around and saw Freya Stone standing not far away, holding a mobile phone in her hand with a somewhat funny posture. His eyebrows raised involuntarily.
He now realized that Freya Stone was also a doctor at Grace Hospital.
Liora smiled gently and said, “It’s okay.”
As she spoke, she moved closer to Elijah.
In line with Elijah’s request to her, Freya Stone could not pretend to be his wife outside, so she simply pretended not to know him.
“Is this your boyfriend?” asked Freya, her eyes clear and bright as a pool of fresh water.
On hearing the question, Liora smiled but didn’t explain, leaving room for misinterpretation.
Elijah didn’t explicitly deny, displaying an attitude that seemed to want to see Freya Stone’s reaction, his gaze fixed on her.
Freya praised them with a light and airy tone, “You two are a perfect match, a heavenly match.”
For some reason, Elijah felt a strong urge to tear it apart when he saw her smiling like that. Knowing Elijah’s suspicious and somewhat ‘malicious’ nature, Freya quickly left, grabbing the colleague who had called her and walked inside briskly.
“Excuse me, I got to go.” Said she.
After a distance, the colleague said softly, “That man, the CEO of Headence Group, young and talented, really enviable. Dr Valentine is so lucky to have such good fortune, being with such a man.”
Freya Stone didn’t respond.
The colleague continued, “How can there be such a perfect man in this world? Rich, handsome, and with such a physique…”
“How do you know he’s perfect? Maybe he’s a pervert.” Freya couldn’t help it, thinking of his actions that almost strangled her. Saying he was a pervert was a compliment.
The colleague couldn’t help but laugh.
Liora Valentine, being quite prestigious, attracted everyone to the farewell party. Almost everyone in Section B attended.
“Dr Stone, sit at this table.”
Freya was about to go to the table at the far corner, but the director called her. She hesitated, glancing back at Elijah, who was staring at her. She immediately smiled at the director. “I…”
“Come.” The director directly pulled her to sit.
Freya had no choice but to stay at this table, feeling uncomfortable. She didn’t even dare to lift her head.
“Dr Stone and Dr Valentine are classmates and colleagues. Dr Valentine will be going to the general hospital soon, so you should toast her.” The director nudged Freya Stone.
“She doesn’t drink.” Elijah suddenly spoke.
Everyone was stunned. How did he know if she could drink or not?
Freya was also surprised. When she raised her head, she met Elijah’s seemingly smiling eyes. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.
The hand she had under the table clenched tightly.
What else did he want to do!?
Liora Valentine sensed something was amiss but didn’t pay much attention, thinking she might have misheard.
“In our profession, it’s not suitable to drink. Dr Stone and I have always had a good relationship. Even if I leave, I will still think of her.” Liora said with a smile throughout, maintaining a dignified and poised demeanor.
Elijah’s phone suddenly rang, and he answered it. Not knowing what was said on the other end, he just said, “I understand,” and hung up.
As he put down his phone, Freya Stone’s phone also rang. Pressing the answer key, she heard Deck Harlow(the steward of the Silverton family)’s voice, “Madam, come to the old mansion, the master wants to see you now.”
Freya responded, “Okay.”
After hanging up, she told Liora Valentine, “I have something urgent to attend to, so, um, I’ll use tea instead of wine to toast you. I wish you all the best.”
She picked up the tea on the table and drank it. Standing up, at this moment, Elijah’s gaze fell on her. His lips carried a hint of playfulness. “What a coincidence, I have something to do too. Do you want to go together?”
Freya was at a loss for words.
Elijah didn’t know why, but when he saw Freya Stone pretending not to know them, he felt very uncomfortable. He wanted to see how long she could keep up the act.
All eyes were now on Freya Stone.
