Chapter 29 Her Pregnancy
Freya snapped back to reality, quickly adjusting her expression and smiling. “Nothing, just lost in thought,” she said.
At that moment, it was time for work and Liora Valentine arrived. Seeing her, when Freya was about to open the car door , Elijah grabbed her hand. “If we’re going to play a role, we have to do it all the way.” He said.
Freya looked confused as she blinked her clear bright eyes. Elijah had already leaned in by the time he spoke. She instinctively pulled back but Elijah wrapped his arms around her waist and pulled her into his embrace with a charming smile. “We’re husband and wife, we should act like it.”
Freya swallowed hard as she met his ambiguous gaze and felt heat rise in her cheeks. With lowered eyelids and thick lashes, Elijah’s eyes sparkled like stars in the night sky as he whispered softly, “Kiss me.”
“…” Freya hesitated.
Xander remained silent in the car.
The air seemed frozen for a moment.
Elijah reminded her, “Liora Valentine is here, don’t you want to make her jealous?”
With pursed lips, Freya made up her mind and reached out to wrap an arm around his neck before pressing their lips together briefly. As soon as their lips touched each other’s, Elijah felt an intense sense of familiarity. That woman from that night had also embraced him this way…
Before Elijah could savor more of the kiss, Freya had already left after opening the car door.
“I’m leaving now.” She said.
Liora Valentine stood in front of the car, seemingly having witnessed everything that happened between them. Her face turned pale with anger making it look even uglier than usual. Freya saw how upset, jealous and angry Liora was feeling, and she felt like everything she did was worth it.
She lifted up head high, straightened up and walked towards hospital lobby with confidence. At this point, Elijah lowered down window glass, giving off a gentle smile, “I’ll pick you up after work tonight.”
Xander almost immediately turned around at hearing what Elijah just said. The young nurses who were coming into work at entrance along with female doctors all cast envious glances towards them. Elijah, the youngest billionaire, had both money and looks. What woman wouldn’t dream of being treated tenderly by such man?
Liora clenched both hands tightly, making veins on top stand out. She gritted teeth, bearing through pain, and walked inside. She couldn’t question him because she didn’t have any right now.
“Do you like Miss Stone?” Xander noticed how much attention Elijah paid towards Freya, but never expected his boss…
Elijah slowly raised his eyelids while asking, “What? Are you interested?”
Xander explained, “No.” Then he said, “You said Miss Stone is not pure?” ccording to what he knew about Elijah, he wouldn’t accept a woman like that, right?
“I’ve had women too.”
So him and Freya were even now?
Xander had nothing to say. He started the car and drove away.
At the hospital, Liora cornered Freya against the wall.
“What do you mean? Are you trying to show me who’s boss?” Liora began.
“Liora Valentine, we had no quarrel with each other before. But you were the one who acted against me first. I’m just returning the favor!” Freya wasn’t afraid of her at all. Instead, she was very assertive. Perhaps it was because she was a mother that she possessed such strength.
Liora didn’t deny it either. “I just wanted to see if your child is Elijah’s or not.”
Freya’s eyes turned red as she slapped her across the face.
A crisp and loud sound echoed through the air!
“You hit me?” Liora was stunned by this unexpected turn of events. She never thought that Freya would actually strike back at her.All content is property © NôvelDrama.Org.
Freya hit her so hard that her palm went numb with anger in her eyes. “You’re a doctor; you should know better than anyone else I’ve just got pregnant not long ago. You punctured my amniotic sac, I could miscarry at any time! I hit you? That would be too light!”
If anything happened to her children due to Liora Valentine’s actions today, she wouldn’t let it go easily!
Liora had never suffered such humiliation before; how could she bear this kind of insult? Her eyes turned red as well as she yelled out, “Freya stone!”
As soon as those words left her mouth and before Liora could land a blow on Freya’s face, someone grabbed hold of Liora’s arm from behind stopping mid-swing.
She turned around only for Orion Russo’s face came into view.
“How did you… how did you get here?” Liora stammered.
Orion pushed her aside and said, “Just because I’m not here doesn’t mean things can run wild.”
Liora accusingly towards Freya, “It was HER who attacked ME first!”
Orion looked directly at Liora but spoke loudly enough for everyone present in earshot, “But wasn’t it YOU who harmed HER unborn child?”
There were no words left for Liora after hearing Orion speak so bluntly. Fuming with anger, Liora turned on heel, glaring daggers towards Freya. She shouted out one last warning, “Don’t think this is over yet!”
Once Liora was gone, Freya finally relaxed slightly.
Orion looked over towards her and asked curiously, “What exactly happened? You’re pregnant? Whose baby is it? Is it Elijah’s?”
Frey shook head slowly. “No.”
“Then whose?” Orion raised his voice an octave higher than usual. Realizing he sounded too excited he lowered his voice again asking softly instead, “But wait. You don’t even have a boyfriend… how did you get pregnant?”
Freya lowered her head. “Don’t ask me.” She said.
“How can I not ask?” Orion Russo replied. “You’re not married, but you’re pregnant. Are you going to raise the child alone? Tell me quickly, who is the man? Did he abandon you? I’ll go and give him a piece of my mind!”
The news of Freya’s pregnancy came as a surprise to Orion Russo because in his impression, she was a conservative and self-respecting girl. Now she was pregnant.
“I don’t know,” Freya said hesitantly about what happened that day but didn’t hide anything from Orion Russo. “Elijah and I got married secretly. We didn’t do it because we liked each other, but because my father wanted to establish relations with the Silverton family. My grandfather saved Elijah’s grandfather, so my father used this favor to force us into agreeing.”
Orion Russo wasn’t very surprised since he had suspected something was off between Freya and Elijah ever since they met. He just hadn’t expected that Freya would be given away as Elijah’s wife. And he knew something about Freya’s dad too – he had treated her poorly before.
“What about the child?” Orion asked.
Freya found it hard to speak about this matter.
“I…”
“Was it rape?” Orion asked bluntly before realizing how direct his question sounded.
He quickly explained himself, “I didn’t mean it like that, I…”
“No,” Freya interrupted him calmly even though her words were harsher than intended; they were close enough to the truth after all.
The only thing different was that it wasn’t forced.
“I did it voluntarily without knowing who the man was.”
Orion’s facial muscles twitched slightly at hearing this news.
“If Elijah finds out, will you still be alive carrying someone else’s child while being married to him?”
Freya hadn’t thought of this problem yet because she had just found out that she was pregnant.
“Help me keep this secret for now,” pleaded Freya with Orion. “I’m not afraid of divorcing Elijah, I just don’t want my mom finding out right now when she hasn’t fully recovered yet. At least until after my mother recovers from illness, she’ll divorce. And I could leave here for another city.”
With the money given by Leo Stone, she could settle down somewhere else and work there too.
Orion tried persuading, “It would be best if you got rid of it.”
“You don’t even know who the father is.” Continued Orinon sternly, “What are you going to do if you have a baby? You must have lost your mind!”
Freya gave a bitter smile.
“The children are mine.” She said.
How could she give up her own flesh and blood? She looked up at Orion and said, “I don’t feel well. I want to get checked out to make sure the babies are okay.”
“I’ll arrange it,” Orion said, even though he didn’t approve of her decision.
After they left, Liora Valentine emerged from the shadows with a gleam in her eye. “So that’s how it is!” she exclaimed.
She hadn’t really left; she had been hiding nearby all along. Now she understood everything: although Freya was married to Elijah, they didn’t love each other and the baby was Elijah’s–but Freya didn’t know that.
It had happened on that night when they were together, but Elijah didn’t realize it was Freya–even though they were husband and wife.
Liora laughed happily. “After all this time, my chance has finally come!”
That evening after work, Liora went to Headence Group and blocked Elijah’s path at the entrance.
