Worship The Ground You Walk On

Chapter 5 I’ll Let You Suffer

Chapter 5 I’ll Let You Suffer

The banquet was still going on. The shining lights and toasts made it more thrilling than ever, but

Claudia didn't feel like staying anymore.

She felt nothing but coldness in her heart, and she had never been so desperate. She avoided

everyone and sneaked out of the hotel from the back door.

The back door was the way to an underground parking lot, where cars were going in and out from time

to time, but it was a very isolated place in general, which made it hard for Claudia to get a cab.

She was there all alone.

As Claudia was about to leave, she saw a charming figure not far away. A woman was heading to

Claudia, her high heels clattering.

“Losing your man's love and sneaking out like a pathetic cur. Should I pity you?”

Amber walked towards her with a contemptuous look. Her beautiful face was so attractive with a sense

of self-satisfaction seeping out.

An unnamed annoyance was accommodating inside Claudia. She clenched her slender fingers.

“I told you that Ben will never have any place for you in his heart!" Amber mocked in the posture of

victory.”

Claudia knew that Ben might have no place for her in his heart; however, she was sure that there

wasn't any place in there for Amber, either.

“Hello? Tired of listening? I'm just telling you the truth! You think he'll fall in love with you just because

you're pregnant? Only incompetent wives would use her kid as the leverage to save her marriage!"

Claudia heard that. Her cold beautiful eyes looked into Amber's eyes. Only if she could say something!

She wanted to ask Claudia, "Where's your baby then?”

The woman who couldn't bear a child and wanted to steal somebody else's. She was in no position to

look down upon anyone!

Even God was unfair sometimes. He had to make Claudia a mute.

She couldn't say that out loud in Amber's face.

“We'll see!” Amber tightly covered herself up with a men's suit. It was Ben's, well designed and nicely

tailored.

Just like how he was.

Amber looked sideways at her with scorn, “I can see him sweeping you out of the fatality! You'll be

much more miserable by then! You'll wish you were never born!"

Those words echoed in Claudia's ears. Her beautiful eyes looked so alert.

She looked like an irritated kitten, looking at Amber as if she was her prey, which made Amber very

upset.

Amber somehow even felt frightened.

Amber gritted her teeth. She took a step forward and grabbed Claudia's hand so tightly that her nails

pierced into Claudia's flesh. Amber scolded, “You little slut! How dare you glare at me like that? What?

Did I say something wrong? Should I apologize?”

“I’ll tell you what! He was supposed to be mine! We are meant to be together! We could've been

together if you hadn't got in the way!”

She got angrier as she said that. Claudia still didn't draw her cold eyes back, which made Amber even Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.

more furious. She let go of Claudia's hand. Before Claudia balanced herself, Amber slapped her right

on her face.

"Bah!"

The clear slap sounded so obvious in this empty space.

Claudia's cheek hurt. She raised her hand to cover her left face. Amber was still scolding.

"You’d better behave yourself! We still have your crazy mom under control! Just do as I say if you don't

want anything to happen to her! I'll put you in hell as soon as the baby is born!"

After she said that, she angrily strode towards the exit of the underground parking lot.

Claudia stood there with a burning face, which was negligible compared to the pain in her heart.

She raised her head and saw the surveillance camera in the corner. An idea suddenly occurred to her.

She turned around and wanted to hail a cab on the side of the road. She had only taken two steps

before she heard a noise came from behind. She turned back and her expression froze.

A strong beam of light was approaching. She could barely open her eyes. The driver had turned on the

high beam and rushed to her at an extremely fast speed.

Claudia had no option but to block the light with her hands. She squinted her eyes and saw a red

sports car darting out of the parking lot towards her.

Claudia had never been in this situation before. Her mind went blank and her head buzzed. She almost

lost all senses, including her hearing.

She wanted to move away, but her body seemed to be in no sync with her mind under such great

danger.

She felt as if her blood had been solidified, and every joint of hers had rusted. Her feet felt as if they

have been glued to the ground. She couldn't move an inch. It was too late for her to escape.

Just when Claudia was in a panic, she was suddenly hugged by a strong force.

She felt dizzy for quite a while before she realized what had happened. She was shocked to see the

man in front of her.

It was Ben.

The rumbling car went past them at breakneck speed and disappeared quickly.

It took Claudia a few minutes to break away from the fear. She raised her head and looked into the

man's clear dark eyes. She wondered if she had seen a trace of care and concern.

He was gripping Claudia's shoulders tightly, nearly crushing her bones.

She knew that wasn't because he was mad. That was because it happened so fast.

Ben looked in the direction in which the car disappeared. It was already gone. He kept staring and

thought for quite a long while.

That car looked familiar.

After a long time, Ben turned over and looked at Claudia in his arms and asked, "Are you okay?"

His tone was still indifferent. Claudia couldn't figure out if there were any concerns in his words.

Maybe there was a slight trace of concern.

Claudia shook her head and denied, but her pale face and shivering lips gave her away.

Ben released his hand. The next moment, Claudia's weak body fell onto the ground like an autumn

leaf.

Ben reacted quickly. His long arms caught Claudia by her waist. He pulled her in his arms and

muttered, "Claudia..."

No matter what he said, she didn't respond at all.

Claudia woke up twice later on. The first time, she was in a fast-moving car. Ben was by her side and

grabbed her hand firmly as if she would be gone at any time.

The second time, he was on a cold bed, being spotted by a huge lamp. She exhausted herself to open

her eyes wider, but she failed at last. Then she felt as if she was drifting along the ocean waves, surged

by the waves on and on.

Outside of the hospital, Winifred came over in a hurry from the banquet, she stood in panic outside of

the OR of the obstetrics and gynecology department. She looked at Ben with anxiety in her eyes.

“What the hell is going on?" she asked coldly.

Ben was leaning on the wall of the corridor. There was no expression on his calm face.

"I know you have no feelings for Claudia, but she's pregnant! Her baby is our family's blood! I want her

to be safe and sound before the baby is born, period!"

Winifred was furious and she almost lost control of her own emotion. She turned to Nate and gave him

her order, "Go investigate! Find out who did it! Go through all the surveillance videos!"

Nate didn't even dare look her in the eyes. He said quickly, “On my way, Ma'am.”

Just by then, Amber walked out of the elevator quickly and approached with confusion all over her face,

asking softly, "Mrs. Crawford, Ben, what happened to my sister?"
