Chapter 829
No Longer A Lawyer
Emelie returned to the Dennings Residence from the police station and quickly issued several orders.
Later in the evening, Wesley also returned from the company.
Emelie told him, "I have to return to the country tomorrow."
"Is it because Beathan was released on bail?" Wesley already knew about it. "The police's charges against him are all based on indirect evidence. They lack the most crucial piece. He also presented a report claiming that he has an illness, so he was granted bail."
"He has always been good at exploiting legal loopholes," Emelie sneered. "But I just learned some interesting things from Natalia. It's perfect timing to see if they're true."
Wesley nodded. He didn't stop her from returning to the country. Instead, he looked down at her, then took her hand.
Suddenly, as if by magic, a white bracelet appeared in his hand. He spread the bracelet apart and put it on her slender wrist.
Emelie was curious. What did he mean by this?
"After work, I saw a young girl about ten years old selling these outside the company in a basket. It was very cheap, but the moment I saw it, I wanted to give it to you."
As the head of the jewelry line, Emelie had some knowledge about these beads. "This is made of natural white nacre, polished from shells. It has a faint, soft glow."
"Like moonlight," Wesley added softly, looking into her eyes. "I have to stay in Mercianna to handle the Filo Group's issues. I can't go back with you this time. Finish up quickly and remember to come back. Our wedding is in April."
Emelie looked at the beads on her wrist. They hung loosely, not giving her a feeling of being restricted.
She couldn't quite put her feelings into words, but after a moment, she smiled at him. "I know."
The next morning, Emelie and Jodie boarded a plane back to Capebatt City.
Jodie seemed to have something on her mind.
Emelie noticed and asked, "What's wrong?"
Jodie rubbed her nose and said, "You're just leaving like this? Aren't you going to say goodbye to William? It seems like he's still waiting for you at the hotel."
Emelie paused. She had originally planned to ask him some things.
She turned on her phone to check the time, then casually opened Whatsapp and looked at William's profile picture.
His profile picture had always been black, but it wasn't pure black. Once, she had zoomed in on the picture and saw that it was a night sky. Behind the dark clouds was a moon, but it was barely visible.RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
She did nothing and locked the screen. "Let's go."
On the plane, Emelie contacted Ashley. Fifteen hours later, the plane landed in Capebatt City, and Emelie went directly to Pearl Bay to find her.
After a period of rehabilitation, Ashley could walk normally now.
Although this wasn't their first meeting in three years, their previous encounters had been brief, with little time to talk.
Ashley patted Emelie's back, already aware of what she had been through the last few years. After some thought, she said, "You're okay now, and that's what matters."
That was what Emelie wanted to say to her too. "You're okay now, and that's what matters."
They were both people who had almost died.
Not wanting to dwell in this somber atmosphere, Ashley suggested, "Let's call Mona. We can have a meal together.
"
Three years ago, the three of them often ate together.
Although Mona was still at work, she didn't hesitate to come right away.
Emelie teased her, "Now that you're a department manager, no one would dare to stop you even if you snuck out during work hours."
"Snuck out? I'm clearly here to meet my potential clients," Mona said seriously. "One is the head of a
multinational corporation, and the other is a top lawyer. If my boss knew I was having lunch with you, he would have personally seen me off."
Emelie smiled, but Ashley said, "I'm no longer a lawyer."
