Chapter 45
Chapter 45 Do You Want to Wait?
Buck’s thrilled voice said, “Ms. Maia, | found Jordan Cantrell!”
This was good news, especially for Starlight Entertainment.
“Where is he?”
“He’s living in Eldertown now, working as a math teacher at a high school.” “Get me the fastest ticket to Eldertown tonight!”
Maia needed to leave this instant!
“Yes, of course.”
“yes,
“Maia, are you going somewhere? | heard you asking someone to book tickets for you?” Tess asked as she placed a dish on the dining table.
“Aunt Tess, I’m sorry but | need to leave for Eldertown tonight.” Maia told Tess truthfully.
“Eldertown? That's quite a distance from here. Why do you need to go there?”
“Jordan Cantrell lives there. He used to be the chief financial officer of Starlight Entertainment.” Maia clarified. “Are you looking for him to get him to come back?” Errol interjected.
“Yes, | think he is most suitable for this position.” Maia nodded.
The position of chief financial officer was one of the most important in the company. Maia needed someone she could rely on to handle it.
“Alright, | understand. You still have some extra clothing here. Let me get them for you.” Tess said as she got up and walked towards the bedrooms.
“Aunt Tess, let me do it.” “Aren't we family? Don’t worry about it! You should just take a break. We'll start having dinner when the stew is ready. Maia nodded as she allowed Tess to help her with packing.
Not long after, they were seated at the table, enjoying dinner. Tess was definitely one of the most efficient packers anyone had ever seen.
“Maia, you should try my roast chicken. It’s Errol’s favorite dish.”
Errol quickly handed Tess his plate as he witnessed his aunt giving his sister a chicken
drumstick. “What about me? Aunt Tess, it’s not nice to show favoritism!”
Wie
“One for you and the other for your sister. I'm wounded by your accusations!”
Tess immediately grabbed the other drumstick and placed it on Errol’s plate. The three turned to one another and laughed.
By the time they finished their meal, it was already late in the evening. Tess had been looking at Maia for awhile now, so Maia asked, “Aunt Tess, what’s the matter?”NôvelD(ram)a.ôrg owns this content.
“Both Errol and | have been wanting to ask you about this. It’s not that we’re nosy, but we're family, aren’t we? As your aunt, | must ask and remind you about this.”
Maia could already guess what they were worried about through her aunt’s body language. She placed her fork on the table and nudged Tess to continue.
Tess summoned her courage, but her voice faltered as she asked, “After Cedric removed you. from the event, he sent his men to clear up the area. So, what exactly is your relationship with him?”
“There’s nothing between us.”
“Nothing? How’s that possible? You mean he knew about you when you returned to Prismara? | am amazed he found out about you so easily.” Tess sighed dejectedly.
Errol also looked worried. He may not know everything about his sister’s life, but he knows most.
“| don’t know how, but he’s Cedric Larkin. Anything that happens in Prismara would not be able to escape Larkin’s ears.” Maia was not surprised. This was also the reason why she had
informed Rita and Zera.
“Maia is right. Cedric is too powerful in Prismara. Even if we managed to leave this place, how could we be so sure that we could escape his influences?” Errol added.
“It was a mistake to agree to your public appearance. After the fire, you were finally able to enjoy some peace and quiet. Yet I’m watching you endanger yourself again. Maia, I’m so worried about your safety.” Tess lamented. This was not what she had hoped for Maia.
“Aunt Tess, as long as I’m alive, Cedric will eventually find out. Besides, | must reappear to claim my rights to Starlight Entertainment.”
However, she did not expect Cedric’s change of attitude. The once cold and unfeeling man was nowhere to be seen. The only thing that remained was that arrogant attitude.
Maia did not know why Cedric’s attitude changed. However, was her least concern. She would not be duped twice. Since she was given a second chance at life, she would not lose it so easily again.
Moreover, she was not the Maia Burgess she used to be. +15 BONUS
Tess grabbed Maia’s hands. “I have faith in you and trust that you’re able to take care of yourself, but when it comes to Cedric, I'm worried. | wish that you would never cross paths. He’s too powerful, and you would only end up getting hurt!”
Maia reassured Tess, “Please don’t worry, Aunt Tess. | would never be involved with him again.”
Maia had made a promise to herself when she escaped the fire and was given a second chance to live. She would bury her past and live in the present.
Tess heaved a sigh of relief and continued, “I'll take your word for it. Now, let's continue! Maia, you should have more of the stew. | spent the whole day on it!
As Maia finished her second bowl of stew, she remembered how good family love felt. She did not want to remember her painful memories. She was determined not to let history repeat itself.
Buck came around 8 p.m. to send Maia to the train station as she took the last train to Eldertown.
Unbeknownst to Maia, there was someone waiting for her at her place. Cedric had beer. waiting for her for two hours now. Maia’s apartment was pitch black, as she was not home.
“Mr. Larkin, do you want to continue waiting? Maybe Ms. Maia was supposed to be somewhere else tonight.” Baz looked at the time.
“Somewhere else?” This speculation angered Cedric. Where could she be? Was she at her aunt’s? Her brother’s? Or was she with another man?
