Chapter 536
He effortlessly scooped her up, his voice booming with playful authority, "Come on, let's go grab some dinner!"
Once they reached downstairs, he gently set Sherilyn down on a chair at the diner-style table.
Dinner and soup were already served, "Dig in."
Sherilyn picked up her fork, pushing around a couple of bites of mashed potatoes, her enthusiasm as flat as day-old soda. She looked up, her eyes shooting daggers at Gilbert.
"What's up?" Gilbert couldn't help but chuckle, ruffling her hair. "You're glaring at me like I've done you wrong."
Seeing her evident lack of appetite, he didn't push further.
He took her plate of half-eaten mashed potatoes, nudging the bowl of soup her way. "I'll finish this off. Just make sure you finish the soup... no more bargaining."
Sherilyn bit her lip, relenting.
She began spooning the soup, making slow but steady progress.
Yet, she still left some behind. The soup was gone, the carrots devoured, but the chunks of beef remained untouched.
Gilbert narrowed his eyes, saying, "Thought you loved beef stew?"
He pushed the soy sauce towards her, knowing Sherilyn liked a dab of it with her beef.
"Not feeling it today," Sherilyn shook her head, replying, "Just not hungry."
It wasn't an act; she genuinely felt full, without a trace of hunger.
"Alright then."
Gilbert sighed, resignedly clearing away her soup bowl and finishing off the remaining beef stew.
Why did he always eat her leftovers?
Sherilyn couldn't help but comment, "Stop eating my leftovers, you know, that could lead to all sorts of germs."
"What's there to fear?" Gilbert shrugged nonchalantly, "I've shared more than enough kisses with you, why worry about this?"
Bending down, he continued to tackle her leftovers.
Sherilyn watched him, thinking, in moments like this, he really seemed to let his feelings show.
But it was all just an act.
...
The next day.
Sherilyn had a late start to work, spending the morning at Sunset Ridge Community visiting Jenna.
After sharing a lunch with Jenna and lulling the little one to sleep, Sherilyn finally made her way out.
Stepping out of the complex, she walked to the nearby bus stop to wait.
Suddenly, her gaze froze.
Sherilyn couldn't believe her eyes. Across the street at the opposite bus stop, was that Yuna?
Yuna wasn't alone; she was all smiles, her arm looped through a man's.
This man, Sherilyn recognized him;
him
Not exactly an acquaintance... but from that time, he was the blond guy who had been part of her kidnapping with Yuna!
What was his name again?
Sherilyn remembered, Yuna had called him Ladd?

them! And
were indeed a couple.
Just as Sherilyn was deep in thought, Yuna, giggling, tip-toed up to give Ladd a kiss on the cheek!
Without hesitation, Sherilyn whipped out her phone, capturing the moment.
Then, a bus pulled up, blocking her view. By the time it drove off, Yuna and Ladd were gone.
Sherilyn took a deep breath, closing her eyes for a moment.
Yuna and the blond, Ladd, were a couple. But what about Edgar? Weren't they dating before?
What about now?
Had Yuna and Edgar broken up, leading her into Ladd's arms? It seemed likely.
But what if not? Sherilyn couldn't trust Yuna's character; was she deceiving Edgar?
No, she couldn't just stand by and watch Edgar get duped.
Sherilyn picked up her phone, dialing Edgar's number.
"Hello, Sherilyn." The voice that
greeted her was familiar, clear, ant
