Twisted Ties of Love

Chapter 47

Chapter 47

Kaley was stunned. She didn't expect Izabella to have such a strong reaction, dumping the entire table of food right in front of them.

And she did it so fast that Kaley didn't even have time to put down her fork, awkwardly holding it, not knowing whether to let go or keep holding on to it.

"You're wasting so much food like this..."

Izabella laughed, "It won't go to waste! I'll just take all this to the trash downstairs and feed it to the stray dogs. They'll even wag their tails at me happily after eating." Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.

Kaley's face darkened, feeling deeply offended by Izabella's words. Did she just imply that Kaley was lower than a dog?

In response, Brett abruptly stood up and tightly grasped Izabella's wrist. "Did you do this intentionally?" he demanded, his voice laced with accusation.

Izabella concealed the coldness in her eyes, turning her face to meet Kaley's smug expression. "I was merely being considerate," she stated, her tone laced with underlying sarcasm. "Since Ms. Cornett mentioned that the food didn't suit your taste, I decided to discard it all. It seems Ms. Cornett knows your preferences quite well. Perhaps she should take over the cooking duties for you from now on."

Her suggestion, though directed at Brett, was genuine. She wanted to avoid any further discontent in the future by simply allowing whoever wanted to cook to take charge.

As Brett got closer, Izabella could smell his elegant cologne. She used to love this scent, and had even secretly bought it to spray in every corner of her room, fooling herself that Brett was home.

In their four years of marriage, she had spent most of her time waiting for Brett, who never came back. She was foolish enough to use a bottle of cologne to console herself.

But now, this scent made her feel nauseous, even worse than the smell of dog poop.

"Besides, didn't you tell me just the other day that Ms. Cornett moved in to take care of me? My poor health can't handle the smell of cooking fumes."

Izabella turned her gaze to Kaley's resentful face, showing a generous and considerate smile. Since Kaley wanted to be her servant, she would definitely make good use of her.

Kaley clenched her teeth, she only meant to put on a show and didn't want to take care of Izabella anymore.

Kaley complained in her heart, but looked at Brett with an aggrieved expression. "Brett, Ms. Salotti didn't do it on purpose. She just didn't know your preferences. Besides, she's used to being a spoiled lady. I'll handle these things from now on."

Kaley's seemingly innocent but malicious demeanor disgusted Izabella. She forcibly pulled back her hand and said coldly, "Who do you think you are? Eating someone else's cooking without even a single word of gratitude, only pointing fingers and being picky? Where's your so-called upbringing?"

"I haven't done anything wrong, Ms. Salotti. I understand that you don't welcome me. I'll just leave," Kaley uttered with reddened eyes, tears clinging to her lashes. She glanced at Brett, letting out cries that conveyed a sense of immense injustice.

Brett instinctively drew Kaley close, his gaze fixed on Izabella like a hawk. His lips moved subtly, "Apologize to her."

"On what grounds?" Izabella lifted her gaze, meeting Brett's eyes. "What have I said that was wrong, Brett? Wasn't it you who mentioned that Kaley would move in to take care of me? I prepared

the meal, but you both didn't like it, so I disposed of the food. I've been trying to accommodate both of you, and now you expect me to apologize?"

Brett's eyes narrowed, exuding a cold and piercing intensity, but Izabella fearlessly held her ground, returning his gaze.

Apologize? No way.

With Kaley standing behind Brett, she secretly tugged on his sleeve, shook her head, and whispered, "I'm fine. Don't fight over me."

Her "compromise" attitude only served to make Izabella appear even more aggressive. If it had been in the past, Izabella might have let it go. But now, knowing she didn't have much time left to live, why would she waste her limited time watching this despicable woman's disgusting acting skills?

"Kaley, your acting skills are so good they're wasted if you don't go into the theater. Are we fighting because of you? Don't flatter yourself too much!"
