Neil’s name appeared on the screen.
Caroline picked up the call reluctantly. “What is it, Mr. Xander?”
“Where are you, Caroline?” Neil’s voice sounded weary.
“Just get to the point, Mr. Xander,” she replied calmly.
There was a brief pause before he spoke again. “I don’t think Daniella is my sister.”
“What does that have to do with me?” she asked, her tone composed.
“Are you still at Villa Rosa?” Neil inquired.
“Yes.”
“Caroline, would you be willing to take a DNA test with me?”
“Mr. Xander, didn’t you already do that with Daniella? If you did, and she is your sister, why are you involving me? So people can mock me?” There was a hint of frustration in her voice.
Neil’s voice resonated with helplessness. “I don’t believe it. But it’s fine if you don’t want to go
through with it. I’ll continue my investigation.”
She felt perplexed. She couldn’t fathom why he was so stubborn.
How could the Xanders be careless in verifying their own family members?
If it had already been confirmed, why was he still denying it?
She responded dismissively, her words lacking conviction. “I can’t stop you from doing what you want, Mr. Xander, so you don’t have to inform me about it.
“In any case, I’m glad you still remember our agreement. I’ll hang up if there’s nothing else.”
“…Alright.”
Caroline closed her eyes wearily after ending the call.
She could already envision how arrogant Daniella would act in front of her.
All she could do was hope that the information she had obtained from Daniella’s phone would
prove useful.
In the evening, Paige arrived at Villa Rosa and was led upstairs by Lily
As soon as she entered the room, she rushed to Caroline. “Caroline, you look like a worn–out mess!”
Caroline instinctively touched her face. “I haven’t seen myself in the mirror.”
Paige settled down by the bed and surveyed the room. “Wow, this must be the boss’s room?”
Caroline nodded. “Yes.”
“It’s suffocating in here! It’s a wonder that you don’t go crazy!” Paige exclaimed, bewildered. ”
Everything is black, except for the gray walls.”
Caroline didn’t know whether to laugh or sigh. She reached under her pillow, retrieved the reader,
and handed it to Paige.
“How soon can you retrieve the data?”
Paige swiftly tucked it into her pocket. “Tonight. My friend said he can get it within three hours.”
Caroline nodded. “I hope the data proves useful this time.”
“Forget about the data!” Paige glanced at the door and lowered her voice. “You asked me to
investigate Cecília. I have some news! Her grandmother is in the hospital. I had my friend inquire
about it.
“Guess what? She recently paid a medical fee of 5,000 dollars. Normally, she would only pay less
than 500 dollars at a time.”
Caroline hadn’t expected Paige to gather the information so quickly.
She looked down and said, “It seems my instincts were right. She was colluding with someone to
plot against me.”
“So there’s definitely a bank transfer record in Daniella’s phone!”
“I’ll text you tonight. Let’s wait for her to finally get the punishment she deserves!”
Caroline felt a mix of emotions.
She sensed that things might not be as straightforward as they seemed.
However, she had obtained the evidence. What could possibly go wrong?
She couldn’t figure it out. Perhaps her recent chaotic life had made her overly suspicious.
She nodded. “Alright, please…”
Before she could finish her sentence, the door suddenly swung open.
Daniella appeared, wearing a smug expression as she glanced disdainfully at Caroline in bed and Paige next to her
“I was wondering why there was a car parked downstairs. So, I see we have an uninvited guest.
Paige immediately stood up. “What? You thought a man came? Were you trying to catch a lover in
the act?”
