Torn Between Love and Hate

Chapter 244 Overnight Stay

When Deborah stepped out to answer the phone, she actually wanted to eavesdrop on what Alyssa

and Joseph were talking about inside.

She even felt that she was more eager than Joseph to know Alyssa’s current attitude.

Will Alyssa be able to accept that she is now with Joseph?

In other words, she planned to lay her cards on the table and tell Joseph that she would never accept

him.

Deborah knew all too well that Alyssa had Ashton in her heart.

She hid her feelings, not daring to speak them out loud, unwilling to admit them.

But the bond between father and daughter is etched in their bones.

She couldn’t shake him off, couldn’t break free, and couldn’t truly forget Ashton.

She might accept Joseph and the idea of her mother forming a family with another man, and even see

herself living in that family.

But that’s probably about it; I can’t really see Joseph as my biological father.

Deborah stood outside the entrance, her hand holding the phone to her ear,

mind was elsewhere.

but her

The restaurant was quite far from the entrance, so she couldn’t hear what Alyssa and Joseph were

talking about.

After picking up the phone, Evelyn’s voice came through, “Deborah, I have some good news to share

with you and Mr. Black. I couldn’t get through to Mr. Black, so I had to

contact you.

Deborah glanced inside, thinking that Joseph might be too nervous and excited since it was his first

time seeing Alyssa come over, so much so that he didn’t even know where he had left his phone.

She laughed and said, “Joseph is with me. What’s the good news? Just tell me directly.” Nôvel(D)rama.Org's content.

Evelyn excitedly said, “Remember when Simone’s ex-husband Damian attacked you him a and Simone

outside the company? Then Mr. Black came to the rescue and gave

good beating.”

As a result, a video was uploaded online, claiming that Mr. Black and Simone were in a romantic

relationship. Since Damian is Simone’s husband, that’s why Mr. Black ended up in a physical fight with

Damian.

Deborah said half-jokingly, “Alright, you can start talking about the twist now.”

Evelyn continued excitedly, “Now that it’s getting popular online, I’ve released the footage from that

hidden camera for everyone to see.

Now the tables have turned. People are saying that Damian, who hits women, is not a real man. They

praise Mr. Black for his strong and protective nature toward his wife, and they sympathize with him for

being wrongly accused for so long.

Jingron Group firmly holds the top spot in the trending searches, and their stock price is skyrocketing!

Oh, and by the way, the person behind the recent incident has been identified. Guess who it is?”

Deborah eagerly asked with curiosity, “Who is it? Who is it? Please tell me quickly.”

In fact, Joseph had already guessed who the person behind him was, and he was almost

certain of it.

Evelyn excitedly said, “It’s Mr. Black’s stepmother, Jane! She’s not very smart, and she used her own

identification for many of her schemes. It was easy to find out with just a simple investigation.”

Deborah’s expression was calm, and as she had guessed, it was indeed her.

Chandler is dead, and all she can think about is seeking revenge on Joseph and Deborah.

Acting impulsively and hastily will naturally leave flaws behind.

Evelyn continued, “Mr. Gerald Black divorced Jane directly, and now Jane has left the Black family. I

heard she went insane. I don’t know if she’s just acting, but I did some research, and it seems like she

really went mad after the shock.”

Having lost her son, and now being kicked out by the Black family, all her wealth and glory have turned

into a fleeting illusion.

As for seeking revenge on Joseph and Deborah, it became an even more absurd and far-fetched idea.

Deborah’s emotions had settled, and she simply replied, “As long as the issue is resolved and it didn’t

bring any negative impact on Jingron, that’s good.”

Evelyn proudly said, “Just kidding! I’m a professional CEO’s secretary and also handle crisis public

relations. Anyway, I’ve got to get back to work. I’ll be waiting for Mr. Black

to send me my bonus.”

Deborah smiled and said, “Don’t just focus on work and bonuses. Adrian asked me

about you again, wondering when you’ll come to Richmond. Why don’t you come over

and take a look?”

Evelyn responded with a “no” and immediately hung up the phone.

Deborah couldn’t help but feel helpless.

Not long after hanging up the phone, Adrian sent another message.

[I had Steven discuss a business deal with Joseph. Please let him know that when it comes to sending

documents and other secretarial tasks, the original secretary should still be responsible for them. How

am I supposed to know if the new CEO’s secretary is reliable or not?]

Deborah finally gave in to him, bringing a deal worth hundreds of million dollars to

Joseph for discussion, all just to shift the focus onto the CEO’s secretary.

She couldn’t help but reply, (If you really like Evelyn, you won’t be able to win her over

by beating around the bush and hiding your feelings like this.]

[Just be straightforward. If you like someone, express it. If you keep beating around the bush like this,

Evelyn will have a husband and kids before you know it.]

After sending the message, Deborah thought Adrian would reply, insisting that he

didn’t like it.

Surprisingly, there was no response for quite a while. It took several minutes before I finally got a reply:

[Oh.]

Oh?

This is admitting to liking it.

Deborah chuckled and immediately took a screenshot of the message, sending it to Evelyn.

By the way, he added, [The deal he discussed with Joseph involved a transaction amount of over 150

million dollars.]

Evelyn was still daydreaming about receiving a bonus when she received a message and joked, [If he

really falls for me and wants to slap himself in the face, he should just bring 150 million dollars to marry

me. Hey, I wouldn’t have any issues with money, that’s for

sure.]

This amount of money is enough for her parents to work themselves to the bone for ten

years.

As for Evelyn, she might not be able to earn it in her entire lifetime..

Deborah immediately relayed the message, sending a screenshot to Adrian. “You see, such a simple

question. Just take the 150 million dollars and go to Oceanview City.”

Adrian was probably waiting on the other side, and he quickly replied, “Ha, a

materialistic woman, wanting both money and people.”

-Deborah suddenly understood a bit why Evelyn couldn’t stand him anymore.

She couldn’t help but remind him: [You’d better watch your narcissistic and discriminatory remarks, or

else Evelyn really won’t bother with you anymore.]

Over there, someone replied arrogantly: [Oh.]

Deborah didn’t want to deal with him anymore. She put her phone back in her pocket

and returned to the restaurant.

Alyssa and Joseph were still talking, the child’s face showing a serious expression.

As soon as Deborah walked in, everyone immediately fell silent.

Deborah walked over with a smile, “What are you talking about? Don’t keep it from

me.”,

Alyssa shook her head and said, “It’s nothing.”

Deborah didn’t ask any more questions and turned her attention to Joseph.

Joseph’s complexion looked great, and it was clear that he was in an exceptionally good

mood.

Get Ho

Deborah could immediately guess what kind of attitude Alyssa had when she spoke to

him just now.

Deborah felt happy as well, but she couldn’t help feeling a little heartache for Alyssa.

As a mother, she was destined to never let Alyssa have both parents by her side again.

Joseph said not to blame herself for this.

But deep down in her heart, she still felt somewhat indebted to Alyssa.

Alyssa decided to accept Joseph. In order to put both Deborah and Joseph at ease, she

suggested staying over after dinner that night.

Joseph was delighted and immediately instructed the housekeeper to tidy up the room, saying that

Deborah would accompany Alyssa for the night.

Afraid that the housekeeper might not clean up well, he went upstairs to help as well.

Deborah accompanied Alyssa in the living room downstairs, watching TV. The

television was on, playing a show that Alyssa enjoyed.

Deborah knew that Alyssa’s mind wasn’t really on the television.

After a short while, Alyssa tilted her head and looked at her with a sincere expression.

“Mommy, after spending some time with Mr. Black, I’ve come to realize that he’s

genuinely a nice person.

After all the difficulties, everything is finally getting better now. I hope my mom can be

happy in the future. She doesn’t need to worry about me; I can handle it.”

Deborah looked at her, her eyes slightly red.

Alyssa reached out and held her hand, saying, “Mommy, I’m serious. I think Mr. Black

is really nice.

I really hope to see my mom happy forever. I wish she would marry Mr. Black and be together, but don’t

forget to include me in their life too.”

Deborah reached out, unable to hide her excitement as she hugged her tightly, “Alyssa, thank you. I

promise you, from now on, I will always be by your side and won’t let you suffer any injustice.”

Alyssa leaned into her embrace and whispered softly, “Mommy, you’ve been unhappy

for so many years. From now on, don’t always worry about others, and take good care of yourself too.

Mr. Black is right, Mom deserves the best, and she deserves to get what she likes.”

Deborah hugged her tightly, “Thank you, Alyssa.”
