Chapter 9

“You got a letter from my dad!!!! When?”

“After funeral I got this letter,”, He goes to the table in the living room and takes an envelope ad gives it

to me. “You were sad and didn’t want to talk to anyone I thought it will be best to not hand it to

immediately so I waited to find a perfect moment and then I forgot about it and since you mentioned

about finding an apartment, I remembered the letter because, well read it find it out yourself.” And with

that, he left the room.

I don’t know whether to be angry or sad or happy. Angry because uncle read the letter addressed to me

before I could, sad because I have been sad ever since the accident, and happy because I got

something from my dad when I am feeling the world around me crushing down. My emotions are all

over the place that I feel numb.

I sat down on the couch with the letter on my lap, thinking what to do. Well, the letter is already opened

now I only need to unfold it. Gathering all the strength in me, I unfolded the letter.

“My baby girl,

If you got this letter, it means we are no longer near you to comfort you. We are sorry for that. My baby,

just know that your mother and I will always be near you. I also know the fact that you are completely

devastated because those shadows that have been lurking around you have finally showed their actual

faces, I am sorry that I am not there to help you figure things out. I also know that now you don’t

believe anyone, even your own family, but one thing for sure: you can trust your Uncle Nick, go to him

when you don’t know what to do. Again, I am actually we both are very sorry you have to go through

this alone. Since you are old and smart enough to protect yourselves, you don’t have to have anyone

as your guardian, and hence we have not given the guardianship to Nicholas and Olivia. But we can’t

bear to see you roam around in the cities since I know you too well to know that you won’t stay with

anyone thinking you don’t want to be burden and that’s why I proudly say that you are Damien Griffin’s

daughter which I will never be sorry for, so I have arranged you an apartment in the city itself close to

the workplace I have arranged for you I have attached address of your apartment also the details of the

company in which you will work in (if you want to which I know you will take upon my offer) at the end

of this letter. Well I don’t need a Sherlock’s head, if I have already prepared this letter beforehand I

know that someone took over the company and that you can’t enter your own office, and I also know

you being a Marshal you will do everything to get what’s yours but for that you need money and with

your bank balance you will only be able to live in the apartment you are going to stay in. So yes, I have

prepared a position in one of my friends’ company for you. All those you will know later on.

My darling princess, take care of yourself you don’t need someone to take care of you, you are strong

to take care of yourself. I and your mother love you so much. Take care.

P.S. burn this letter immediately after reading the ‘entire’ letter.”

I didn’t realise I was crying until I saw a drop near the words ‘Dad and Mom’. I wiped my tears and took

my phone to scan to code at the end of the letter after P.S. When I scanned the code it sent me to a

website which had pictures of us- me, mom and dad- with title our little princess. And that broke my

walls, and I started crying. After a few minutes, I calmed down and wiped off the remaining tears and

took the letter to my room.

Once I was inside, I closed the door and locked it. I kept the letter on the study table. I took the pencil Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

and scale and started decoding the code. That’s one of many things my dad taught me. The code was

not there to make me happy or sad, but to say something with no one knowing about it. That was a

secret between my dad and I though it seems like a normal code and it also sends you to a website but

only after decoding and then scanning it again will I know what it is about.

After decoding, I scanned the decoded code and that took me to a real website. It said:

“Glad to know my teachings came in handy. Let me cut to the chase. The apartment is for you to do

your investigations with no one knowing about it. Everything is settled by Nicholas. I believe by now he

had made sure the apartment is secured with top security with hidden cameras that only you can get

access to. Though I hate this so much I have to break it to you, from the moment you have read the

letter you are marked by our enemies. I tried everything to get you out of their sight, including moving

out from Amsterdam, but still that wasn’t enough to quench their hunger. For what? You will know about

it later. All you have to know is that you are not safe, no matter how much I worked my ass off to make

sure you were safe. Find my laptop, I mean the real one. It also has so many codes which you can

decode it, but you have to be very careful. Even if a minor mistake is made while decoding, the

computer will shut down permanently. My training will come in handy. Find Ryder Wayne Scott, only he

can help you from now on. Take care, baby. Don’t forget about the P.S. ;)”

After reading the letter, I felt a new determination in me. Dad, only if you knew that Ryder has changed

so much, he is not our Ryder anymore, I won’t ask for his help I will solve this by myself. I made myself

believe that though I had a feeling in me that only after finding my Ryder will I be able to complete all

the riddles.

By now two things are sure:

A. my parents’ death is no accident.

B. I am not safe anymore.

I have to move out sooner than later.
