Chapter 48

“But sir, you said that we could come and get the evidence before you close the case. How can you

change that now?”

“I don’t remember anyone calling anyone named Nicholas to tell about the case being closed. We

called a man named Nathaniel. Also we dont give the evidence out to anyone.” Says the officer with

annoyance. I looked at Amanda to know why she said uncle Nick got the call if what the officer said

was true. She was sweating but the temperature was cold in here. Was she lying about getting the

call? Even so how did she know the case was being closed if she didn’t?

As if knowing that I was looking at her for answers she regained her composure. “Maybe you might

have left for your break when we got the call.” She said looking at the officer with confidence.

What she said might be true because it made the officer to scratch his bald head. “Maybe. Even then

you cant take the evidence because the case has been closed already.”

“What? But..” We both began to say but was interrupted by the officer.

“No buts it is what it is. Please leave if you have nothing else to ask.” He said repeating what he said

for the past 30 mins.

I groaned in frustration. I need the laptop. How can they just close the case without even doing

anything? I then began looking around frantically hoping to see anything to help me. Speaking of

helping me where is Ryder?

I looked outside to see him talking to someone on the phone. What can be more important at the

moment than getting the laptop? Even if it was something at his office he could have done it afterwards

not now when I need him. He went out a few minutes earlier when the officer kept on saying he cant

give us the laptop.

I go out of the police station to him and shake his arm to get his attention. He turned to me annoyed but

speaker of the phone and leaned to me. “I am on phone give me a minute I will come to you.” He

whispered and then went back to his phone. I huffed in annoyance.

“Okay Neo thank you.” I heard an exasperated gasp from the other side. I guess he hadn’t heard Ry

say thanks before.

“Well that was a slip of tongue don’t expect it again.” Ry chuckled and hang up his phone.

He turned towards me and took my hands in his and walked towards the police station as if he didn’t

notice my expression saying Who-the-hell-was-on-the-phone?

“Ry.” I said with annoyance

“Yes" he said imitating me.

“Didn’t you hear what the officer said why weren’t you doing anything. Dad said with your power you

could get it easily.”

“He is right if I was the only powerful party involved in it.” Ry said making me stop walking, stopping

him as well.

“What do you mean you aren’t the only powerful party involved? Who else is involved? Why?”

“You ask too many questions. Who is more powerful than me?” he asked answering me with another

question to irritate me more. Or not-

“BlackJack co.”

“Yup they are involved in this as well though I don’t know why”

“They are too powerful but what does they have to do with this case?”

“That’s what I said I don’t know. From the officer’s word it is clear that I cant do anything about this

which only means someone bigger is involved as well.”

“But I don’t remember doing anything that involves BJ. So why would they close the case if it has

nothing to do with them. It only means that they don’t want us to have the laptop for some reason which

we have to find out. But what can be done to get the laptop now?”

“Maybe it might be because I am involved.”

“So what?”

“I will tell you about it in the car now lets go there.”

“But the officer wouldn’t budge he is repeating what he said past 30 mins as if he is a robot. I don’t

think there’s any point of going there now.”

“Come we will see.” He says and drags me inside.

“I have told you I can’t do anything the case is closed.” The officer said in exasperation looking at a

frustrated Amanda repeating the same thing he has said 10 mins ago. I looked at Ry with a I-told-you-

so look. He looked down at me and just smiled. He smiled! Here I am thinking if it is possible to steal

the laptop from the police station without anyone noticing and here he is smiling.

Just then an officer came in and gave him the phone relieving him from facing us and repeating it for

another time much to our relief. I began looking around counting the number of officers to think of a

plan to get the laptop.

“But sir… the case… yes sir… yes… okay… no sir I will hand it over to them.” The officer said rubbing

his face with his hands in frustration. He looked up at us and scowled. That wasn’t the weirdest thing

but the fact that his expression made Ry smirk at him. Evilly might I add. I frowned not knowing what

the hell is happening.

The officer gave the phone back to the other officer. “Give them that damned evidence. But I must tell

you. You are lessening your life span.” The officer said angrily at us.

“We will take our chances.” Ry said to him as he went back to his office. Ry better have a good

explanation for all this.
