Chapter 17 Dry mouth and tongue
I felt a little awkward, as I was not one to easily confide grievances or personal matters to others. I was Miley's listener back then. In the school years, I mostly listened to her complaints, and she shared her own experiences with me. I often listened quietly, perhaps offering some opinion. She was the brave and loud one, and I was the quiet and shy one, but maybe that was the reason we had such a good relationship.
I chuckled, easing the moment.
"It is nothing, just a little work disagreement that has been resolved. Don't worry about that. I don't think it will happen again."
She looked at me seriously.
"I will have William fire that person, daring to bully my best friend. It's like they don't want to live."
She was furious, not questioning right or wrong, just unconditionally standing up for me. I felt moved, of course, yet I felt guilty. It made me solidify my decision to leave as well. I hoped my emotions weren't written on my face.
"No need for that. If you do that, people will say I am abusing my power." I chuckled while I was peeling an apple for her, pretending the case wasn't so serious, but Miley was not happy.
"It is necessary. I will make a call now."
My eyes widened in surprise at seeing her wanting to make a call. I hurriedly leaned closer to her, and I tried to stop her from starting the call, but I accidentally cut my finger with the knife. My blood started oozing from the cut, a thin layer of skin constantly seeped fresh red blood.
Fortunately, there was a box of tissue on the table. I grabbed some tissues quickly to wipe it off. However, Miley was staring at that bit of blood with a strange look in her eyes.
"What's wrong?" I asked her while I pressed my finger.
Miley snapped out of it and smiled.
"Nothing! You are a grown person. How can you be so careless? Make sure not to cut yourself in the future." She scolded me gently.
She took out a band-aid from her pocket and voluntarily wrapped my finger. Initially, I was so grateful for her effort. I felt so good there was her to take care of me, but seeing her grabbing another band-aid which she wrapped my finger in again, and repeating this action with a third one once more, made me feel puzzled.
"It is just a minor injury. Why use so many band-aids?"
"Listen to me, Sissy. The wound must be wrapped tightly until it heals before going out."
She was very persistent, with a somewhat eerie determination. Why did she feel two layers weren't enough and wanted to continue?
"Are you wrapping a pig's trotter?" I stopped her, as I really didn't understand her.
"I said it has to be wrapped properly." She suddenly roared at me, her eyes fierce, glaring at me, like she was ready to jump at me if I didn't obey.
I felt startled, so I let her keep wrapping my finger. She didn't stop applying band-aids until there were none left in her pocket, before she let me go. "Sissy, listen to me. Don't let yourself bleed, absolutely not, understand?"
"Why?" I asked her with serious interest. Last time Aiden saw me bleed, he had a strange expression as well. Why was Miley also so neurotic?
I believed they cared for me, and I was so grateful for that, but their caring attitudes were somewhat abnormal. I couldn't explain what was wrong with them, but this kind of excessive reaction was not normal behaviour at all.
I stared at Miley, who stood still, maintaining her gaze on me as well. She didn't react for a while, as if someone had pressed the pause button. It was so weird. I didn't know if she was alright. Maybe she was indeed ill, just pretended to be okay?
"Miley?" I raised my hand and waved it in front of her eyes, hoping to get her back to her senses, and Miley suddenly reacted, like the play button has been pressed this time.
The neurotic person just now didn't seem like her, and she returned to her usual cute and lovely self.
"Sissy, don't worry. I will definitely drive away the person who bullied you."
I felt a bit creeped out. Her demeanour seemed like there were two people living inside her.
I paused for a moment. I was hesitating to speak, but finally I looked into her eyes. This is from NôvelDrama.Org.
"It is okay. The company has already handled it. Please don't worry about it." I tried to convince her she should just leave my case. Instead of that, she should have focused on her own health.
"No, it is not okay. No one can bully you. Sissy, don't be afraid. I won't let anyone bully you." And my eyes widened in surprise when she leaned closer and hugged me, acting cute.
"Sissy, you have to stay with me forever. You can't leave, okay?"
I felt puzzled.
"What are you talking about? I ..."
"I know you want to move, but don't leave, okay? I can't be without you. Sissy, please stay with me, okay?" She was like a child begging to her mum not to leave her alone. I had no choice but to agree for now. However, I couldn't shake the feeling that something was off, so I thought it would be better to go back and ask William.
It was raining outside when I arrived back at the White Rose Manor. I found him in the gym, sweating profusely on the treadmill. Sweat soaked his workout shirt. I could even see the curves of his eight-pack abs through the tight-fitting fabric. Seeing his strong and perfect body curves, his long legs, his well-shaped buttocks, I couldn't help but feel a bit parched and tongue-tied.
I just stood there and stared at his gorgeous figure, like the view made me numb again. I needed to force myself to move forward and make him aware of my presence.
