Chapter 196

The woman’s face was injured, and there was a hint of white peeking through the open wound. It was a

gruesome sight.

She looked at the furious Cecilia and shook her wildly.

“I don’t know! I know nothing!”

After saying that, she looked at the police captain beside her pleadingly. “Help me! I don’t want to die!”

Only then did the captain react and immediately pointed his gun at Cecilia.

“Let go of her, or I will shoot you!”

Cecilia stared at the woman whose expression showed fear yet had mockery shining in her eyes. She

clenched her teeth.

Ignoring the captain’s warning and threats, she pulled out the dart and brought it down toward the

woman’s eye.

The mockery in the woman’s eyes was replaced by fear as a shrill scream left her.

“Ah!”

The blood–stained dart stopped right in front of her eye.

Thick blood dripped from the sharp tip into her eye, which was wide open with fear.

The blood spread in her eye, dyeing it red.

Cecilia asked again, “What is in the dart?”

The woman looked at Cecilia, whose face was so cold it appeared like a block of ice, and swallowed

nervously.

“I… All I know is that there’s a poison in it, and you were the target.”

The captain had been close to shooting Cecilia just now.

Hearing the woman’s words, however, he immediately turned his gun on her and handcuffed her.

However, Cecilia didn’t let her go. Instead, she stabbed the dart into the woman’s eyes.

A shriek of agony rang out, drowning all the other sounds.

The captain was speechless.

Lady Strikes Back

He thought, “This woman sure has some guts for intentionally hurting someone in front of the police!”

Just as he was about to arrest Cecilia, Acocester’s police arrived and belped her out.

The scene of the accident was quickly taken over by the Acocester police. RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only

Under normal circumstances, the highway police could have left, but imposters had snuck into their

ranks and caused a series of explosions that wounded a lot of people. Hence, they all had to stay for

investigation.

Cecilia returned to Christopher and took the first aid kit from the bodyguard’s hand to handle his

external injuries.

She was only halfway through when the ambulance arrived.

Christopher and the seriously injured bodyguards were immediately carried into the ambulance. As a

family member, Cecilia was allowed to accompany them to the hospital in the same ambulance.

The ambulance was better equipped for first aid, and Christopher, who had suffered the worst injuries,

was put on a ventilator.

The EMT immediately treated the gunshot wound in his shoulder.

Cecilia held Christopher’s hand and looked at him with tears in her eyes.

She asked the doctor, “If he was poisoned, can you find out now?”

The EMT said without raising his head, “If you are sure that the patient is poisoned, I can give him a

universal antidote.”

“I’m not sure. It’s just a suspicion.”

“We don’t have the necessary tools to do a blood test on the ambulance. When we arrive at the

hospital, I will arrange for a full blood panel and liver and kidney function tests for the patient.”

Upon glancing around, Cecilia knew that the EMT wasn’t lying, so she said nothing more.

She collected some medical cotton balls that the doctor had used to wipe Christopher’s blood, planning

to have someone run some tests herself

After arriving at the hospital, the unconscious Christopher was wheeled into the operating room.

Cecilia stood guard outside the door of the operating room and called Elaine.

Since they couldn’t return at the agreed–upon time, she had to tell the old

woman so that the latter wouldn’t worry.

In truth, Elaine already knew that something had happened to Cecilia and Christopher.

She was already on her way to the hospital.

Looking at her phone screen, which showed it was a call from Cecilia, Elaine asked the butler in the

front passenger seat, “How long will it take to get to the hospital?”

“It should still be about ten minutes, Mrs. Shaw.”

“Have you contacted the military hospital?”

“Yes, I have. Once Mr. Forte can be moved, we can immediately arrange a transfer.”

Elaine nodded and answered Cecilia’s call.

Cecilia’s hoarse voice came from the speaker. “Grandma Elaine, I’ll be late going home. You don’t have

to wait for me for lunch.”

“Okay, I got it. See you later.”

“Grandma Elaine, I don’t think I can go back to see you until tonight. There’s been a minor accident.”

Hearing this, Elaine said distressedly, “You always tell me the good news but not the bad. How could I

not know that you and Christopher had an accident on the way home?”

Cecilia had known that she couldn’t hide such a serious issue from Elaine.

Thinking back to what Elaine had just said, she hurriedly asked. “Grandma Elaine, are you on your way

to the hospital?”

“You’re still as smart as ever, guessing correctly on the first try. I’ll be there soon. See you later.”

After saying that, she hung up the phone.

Cecilia’s nervousness eased significantly because of this call.

She stared overhead at the red light above the operating room door with a gloomy face.

The mastermind behind this incident was truly vicious!

The true purpose behind the serious traffic accident was not to capetre her but to have her see the

person she cared about die in front of her while also poisoning her!

The former would have her disorder acting up, while the latter would keep her in line.

It was a good plan!

Cecilia clenched her fists, the force causing the wound on her arm to reopen, but she didn’t notice it.

When Elaine came out of the elevator, the first thing she saw was blood dripping from Cecilia’s

fingertips.

She was so distressed that she increased her pace.

Hearing the footsteps, Cecilia immediately looked up.

Dressed in a navy dress, the gray–haired Elaine looked worried.

Surrounded by bodyguards, she came to Cecilia and pulled her into her

arms.

“You silly child, why didn’t you get your injury treated? Doesn’t it hurt?” Cecilia hugged Elaine and said

in a choked voice, “Grandma Elaine, it hurts so bad.”

It wasn’t her arm that hurt; it was her heart.

Elaine rarely saw Cecilia acting so fragile and gently stroked her back. “I’m here. Don’t be afraid. Let’s

get your wound treated first, okay?”

At Elaine’s persuasion, Cecilia nodded.

Her injuries were not serious, but they were treated by the director of the hospital himself.

Naturally, it was in respect to Elaine.

After the director left, the butler immediately came forward with a lunch

box.

“Ms. Yancey, Mrs. Shaw personally prepared these for you and Mr. Forte. She brought them here when

she knew that you hadn’t eaten lunch.” Cecilia looked at the butler, whose temples had turned white,

and said softly, “Thank you, Bruce.”

“This is what I should do. There’s no need to thank me, Ms. Yancey.”

After saying that, he asked the bodyguards to borrow a desk and set up the food.

Cecilia had no appetite at all, but she still accompanied Elaine to eat

some.

Elaine knew that Cecilia was taking care of her body, so she kept putting food on the latter’s plate.

“Ceci, I know you’re worried about Christopher, but you have to eat and drink enough to have the

strength to take care of him.”

Hearing this, Cecilia forced herself to eat more.

Once Elaine was certain Cecelia couldn’t eat anymore, she asked the butler to remove the food.

She glanced at the closed door of the operating room. Just as she was about to ask Cecilia about

Christopher, a doctor came over with a stack of test reports from the laboratory.
