Chapter 144

Hearing the scream of “Cecilia“, Yvette immediately stood up and asked nervously, “Ceci, what’s

wrong?”

Hearing this, Selene looked up with worry in her eyes.

Jason sneered, “She’s fine. She accidentally sprained her ankle.”

Then, he hung up the phone.

Looking at her blackened screen, Yvette felt that something was weird with the phone call. Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org

Selene continued to rub her uncomfortable right eye and asked, “Is something wrong with Cecilia?”

“No.”

“That’s good. Why do you look so worried?”

“There’s something wrong with this phone call.”

After saying that, Yvette repeated the call to Selene.

Selene also felt that there was something wrong. With Cecilia’s personality, she wouldn’t make this

strange call.

“Yvie, call and ask.”

Plus, Cecilia had twisted her ankle while talking on the phone.

A twisted mouth was a more reliable reason than a twisted

ankle.

Yvette nodded and immediately called Cecilia back.

However, before her finger touched the dial button, Fiona called.

She didn’t think too much and clicked answer. “Fiona, did you forget to take something?”

Fiona remembered the news very well. However, she was always forgetful, causing her to miss out a

lot of things.

She replied, “Yes. It’s in my room. Can you ask the driver to

send it to my newspaper office?”

“Okay, I’ll look for it.”

After the phone was hung up, Jason, who imitated Fiona’s voice, grinned evilly.

He had another excuse before calling. Thus, he was not sure it would work out.

If it didn’t work, he would make a move on Fiona directly.

However, Yvette took the initiative to throw bait over before he could say anything. It really didn’t take

much of his effort! Yvette didn’t even know that Cecilia and Fiona were not the ones calling her just

now.

She called Cecilia while going upstairs, but she didn’t get through.

Thus, Yvette decided to call Christopher and ask about Cecilia after finding out what Fiona left behind.

When she arrived at Fiona’s bedroom, she saw the kraft

envelope on the dresser.

Yvette immediately called Fiona and said, “Fiona, I’ll have the driver send that kraft envelope to you

right away.”

After saying that, she hung up the phone and went downstairs. Fiona, on the other end of the phone,

was confused.

After snapping to her senses, she checked her briefcase.

It turned out she had forgotten the most important file.

She had just added something she found to the file, but she forgot to put it back into the briefcase.

Fiona knocked on her head and said to herself, “My memory is hopeless. However, how did Yvie know

that I left something behind again?”

Soon, she made up the answer.

“It should be the maid who went in to clean up my room.” 15:44

Fiona didn’t think too much and spent the whole journey rehearsing the live broadcast of the lunch

news.

After arriving at the newspaper office safely, she told the bodyguards, “A lot of news in the newspaper

office is

confidential, so it’s not convenient for you to enter. Just wait for me in the parking lot.”

“Sure, Ms. Yates.”

Fiona went upstairs to the lounge and changed into the reporter’s uniform when “Yvette” called.

“Fiona, the driver’s car is parked opposite the newspaper office.”

“So soon?”

“They took a shortcut, so there wasn’t any traffic jam.”

Fiona hung up the phone after answering. She walked to the floor–to–ceiling window of her office and

looked down.

As expected, she saw a black Audi parked opposite the newspaper office.

Fiona still felt doubtful, though. She wanted Yvette to tell the driver to bring up the kraft kraft envelope.

However, she found that her cell phone was dead and couldn’t be turned on.

While she was fiddling with her phone, the team leader came to urge, “Fiona, it’s almost time. Are you

ready?”

“I’ll be ready soon. I won’t delay the live streaming.”

After promising, Fiona went downstairs to get the documents. Just in case, she even confirmed it was

her family’s license plate number before approaching the car.

As soon as she got to the back seat of the car, the door was opened and a hand reached out and

pulled her in.

It happened so suddenly that she staggered and fell into the

car.

Fortunately, she was good at fighting. She was able to shake off the hand with her reflex.

However, in the next second, a strong electric current spread from her waist to her whole body. She

had fainted after being electrocuted.

The car started its engine and left the newspaper office quickly. After a while, the real driver of the

Yates family arrived at the newspaper office.

He called Fiona, but he didn’t get through. Thus, he went directly to the newspaper office and asked

the receptionist to inform Fiona to come down and get the materials.

The receptionist said, “Ms. Yates has just gone out. Please wait a moment. She will be back soon.”

“Okay, thank you.”

Just as the driver turned around and was about to go out, the group leader shouted anxiously, “The

noon news broadcast will start soon. Where is Fiona? I can’t get through her phone. Is she going to

stand up to me?”

If there was an accident, he would have to take the blame and resign!

The receptionist pointed outside the newspaper office and said, “Mr. Kingsley, Ms. Yates has just gone

out.”

“Why did she go out?”

“I have no idea.”

The driver turned around and replied affirmatively, “Ms. Yates cares about the news most. She will

definitely show up.”

The team leader, Adam Kingsley, angrily tapped on his watch. “There are only three minutes left.”

With that, he rushed upstairs to announce the commercial breaks, stall for time, and arrange for others

to take Fiona’s

place at any moment.

Three minutes later, Fiona had not come back.

The driver noticed something was wrong and immediately called Yvette.

“Ms. Yates, Ms. Fiona Yates is missing.”

Yvette also guessed that something had happened to Fiona. After all, someone else was broadcasting

the lunch news that Fiona was in charge of.

Yvette asked anxiously, “Why is my sister missing? Where are the bodyguards?”

“The people at the office said that Ms. Fiona Yates left 10 minutes ago and didn’t come back.”

“Hurry up and ask someone from the office to cooperate. Check the surveillance for the last ten

minutes and see where my sister is.”

“Yes, Ms. Yates.”

Although the newspaper office’s location was a little remote, it had full surveillance coverage.

Yvette soon got the video of Fiona being taken away by a black

car.

Yvette’s vision darkened, and she almost fainted.

Selene had been by Yvette’s side and also seen the surveillance

camera.

Selene was anxious and angry. “I told her not to go out, but she wouldn’t listen. Something really

happened to her!”

Selene suddenly recalled Juliana’s tragic death. Her heart skipped a beat and she was out of breath.

“Make… Make a call… Call the police.” Selene clutched her chest as she struggled to get the words

out.

Yvette immediately dialed 911 on her phone and wanted to

make a call

At the same time, she received a message: [Don’t call the police if you don’t want Flona to die

The message was so short that Yvette finished reading it at a glance. She hung up the phone in a

hurry.

Then, she showed the message to Selene and asked, “Mom, what should we do?”

Selene had calmed herself down. She had dealt with many incidents before, after all.

She took Yvette’s phone and called the number that sent her a message

It turned out it was a vacant number.

Then, Selene hurriedly contacted Calvin and told him about Fiona’s disappearance.

Calvin was the head of the Yates family. Thus, he had all his family’s resources and connections.

He said seriously, “Fiona, I will investigate immediately.”
