The substitute bride is a mute

Chapter 39

Chapter 39

"I've met Jenna before. She is the second daughter of the Blake family," Sally said. "She's pretty, kind, educated, and came from a well-off family. You better look after her since you'll be working together."

"She doesn't work with me," Dominic replied calmly.

He still remembered how harshly Jenna treated the patients earlier in the hospital. Dominic would never take such a person as his assistant intern. Regardless of how she got the job, he would request a replacement.

"What did that Judy tell you?" Sally frowned. "That stupid mute. She can't even speak, but she's somehow good at badmouthing, isn't she? Is she jealous of her sister because she's not as good in comparison?"

Dominic's face turned straight. "Mom, could you not judge a book by its cover?"

Dominic knew Sally was unkind toward Judy. Adding that to Clark's attitude, he felt pity for how badly Judy was treated in the Reid family and couldn't stand for it.

"I wasn't. I've done my investigation," Sally explained. "That mute's mom was a mistress. She was the one responsible for the death of Jenna's mom. That Judy, she's bad news!"

Dominic's forehead furrowed. "Who told you that?"

"Of course, it's Jenna," Sally answered and sighed. "That poor child came to me crying this afternoon.

"She said something terrible happened in the hospital, and you've misunderstood her. She took a long time to explain the whole thing to me.

"Her life was not easy. Losing her mom at such a young age, of course, she would have a bad childhood!"

So it was Jenna.

Dominic massaged his temple. He couldn't believe that Jenna would turn the table around. "Mom, you couldn't just listen to one side of the story," Dominic said.

"What is wrong with you, Dom?" Sally scowled. "Did that mute drugged you? Why are you speaking for her?"

"I'm not speaking for her. I'm just being realistic," Dominic answered with a stern look. "Also, please leave Clark's family matters alone, Mom. They live their own life, and so do we."

"What do you mean to leave them alone? You—" Sally said.

"I'm tired, Mom. I'm going back to my room." Dominic interrupted Sally and went to his room.

Sally's eyes widened as she looked at Dominic leaving.

Judy was reading in her room when she heard cracking glass from downstairs. Surprised by the sudden noise, she leaned at the door to eavesdrop and heard Sally throwing a tantrum.

"I've given all I have to raise him a better man. Now that he's all grown up, he started criticizing me?" Sally shouted.

"Calm down, Ma'am. I'm sure Mr. Phelps didn't mean it." Lora consoled.

"Didn't mean it? I know he's embarrassed because I'm staying with the Reid family and not leaving. His cousin Clark didn't even say anything. Why is he loathing so much about?" Sally howled.

"Don't be mad, Ma'am. Here, have some tea," Lora said.

Suddenly, there was the sound of another glass breaking.

Judy held her book tightly and was confused. She couldn't understand that despite the Reid family being a large family-owned business, even if Clark had lost his parents at a young age, there should've been other family members to raise him instead of Sally. This belongs to NôvelDrama.Org.

Judging from Dominic's attitude, he seemed to be against Sally staying with the Reid family.

Soon, the commotion subsided downstairs. Feeling relieved, Judy continued reading her book. She had no reason to care anything about the Reid family.

But the calm didn't last long. Before Judy could finish a page, the door slammed open without even a knock.

Judy looked up in surprise and saw Sally standing at the door, eyes burned with anger. "You stupid mute, pack your shit up and leave the Reid manor now!"

Judy was scared and held her book tight.
