Chapter 20
Silas's POV
"Are you going to tell me what I just witnessed now? Phillip askell, turning to glance at the door Katrina had just bolted through.
Do you not know how to knock before entering? I growled at him, my patience thinning.
He had come in at the wrong time and it took everything in me not to kill him.
My pants were still wound tight, my body aching with the tension Katrina had left behind.
The scene played over in my mind repeatedly. Her doe eyes opened widely in shock with her lips hanging.
I had just made her moan and she was startled due to what we had just done.
I wasn't sure if I would have stopped if Phillip hadn't barged in. But I was close, dangerously close to doing something we both wouldn't be able to turn back from
Phillip's eyes flickered at the noticeable bulge in my trousers, and I didn't even bother hiding it
He knew what he had interrupted, he had witnessed a part of it. And part of me wanted him to understand the gravity o
what he had done.
Iwas aroused and his sudden arrival had stopped me from taking things further.
He needed to know that
"Silas, don't do anything stupid," He warned, his voice softer but no less persistent.
of
"Remember the main reason you had kidnapped her and married her. Falling in love with someone related to Marcos for the second time would only bring your death and you know it,"
The scowl on my face deepened with his remainder. He had a habit of reminding me of things I had better left forgotten.
I picked up the cloth by the table, cleaning my fingers with it.
Phillip knew more than anyone that the last thing I was going to do was to fall in love.
There was no point in him reminding the mistake I made for doing so the first time.
Tm just looking out for you," Phillip added.
I knew that was all he was foing, but the gaze he gave me now felt like he was my superior and I had just done something I shouldn't have.
I hated giving someone such power over me, hated having someone above me.
"What did you come here for?" I scowled, waiting for the message he had come to tell me.
Phillip wouldn't just come unannounced to my office, I knew that much about him.
"He finally decided to say what he knows and he requested to see you.
There it was. The reason for his untimely intrusion
My eyes flicked to the door Katrina had escaped through, her scent still lingering in the air and I forced myself to focus. 11:35 Thu, Nov 21 B.
The man in the basement. Our prisoner. The one who held the last piece of information I needed.
The ill
it was enough to pull me back from the state of distraction.
I could almost taste the end of this chase, the final moment when all the pieces would fall into place.
And when they did, nothing, no one, would stand in my way.
I was getting tired of this chase and was happy that it was finally coming to an end.
"Lead the way," I snapped, pushing past Phillip and striding toward the door.
I didn't spare another thought for Katrina, not now. This was where my focus needed to be.
I knew that thinking about her would only bring about a distraction I didn't need.
The journey to the basement was silent.
My boots echoed against the cold stone steps as Phillip and I descended deeper into the estate.
The air grew heavier, damp with the scent of rot and mildew.
The basement was where we kept those who needed... convincing
A few days down here, and even the most hardened men broke
No one would be able to withstand the torture that happened here.
Our prisoner had been tough, that much was certain.
He'd survived longer than most, his screams filling the halls night after night.
But all men broke eventually, it was just a matter of time
Phillip's message only confirmed what I already knew, this man had reached his limit.
I pushed the heavy door open and stepped inside, the dish light casting shadows over the small cramped room.
The prisoner was chained to a chair, his body slumped forward,
Blood and bruises marred every inch of his skin, and his breathing was shallow.
A work of art I enjoyed making.
Yet, despite the state he was in, there was a bit of defiance in his eyes, an air of resistance that hadn't yet been snuffed out. Soon
I thought to myself, my lips pulling up slightly,Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
His head snapped up when he sensed our presence, his eyes clashing with mine.
"Silas, he rasped, his voice barely above a whisper.
"You finally came."
I didn't respond immediately. Instead, I studied him, noting the way his body trembled from the effort of holding himself upright
0075%0
He was weak but not broken. Not yet.
And that was where I came in.
"You wanted to talk," I said finally, my voice cold, detached. "So talk.
The man's lips twitched into a bloody smile.
"Yeah. I'll tell you where it is, he said, his words slurred from the injuries.
I knew where this
was going
He met my eyes with a sneer. "But first, you can go fuck yourself!
The room fell silent.
He just made a mistake, a big mistake.
I chuckled softly, the sound low and humorless. It was almost impressive, his loyalty towards his boss.
He was still trying to play the tough guy, even now, when he was tortured and close to the brink of death.
I wonder what they had promised to make him this way
Without a word, I stepped forward. I grabbed a fistful of his matted hair and yanked his head back.
-His eyes widened, but before he could react, my fist crashed into his jaw with a sickening crunch.
He cried out in pain, his body jerking in the chair as his tough look wavered.
But not yet.
How much longer do you think he can keep up with this?
"I don't have time for your games," I hissed, my face inches from his
His breath was foul, heavy with the stench of blood and fear
His eyes shook as he stared at me, blood dripping from the side of his mouth.
"You either tell me what I want to know, or I'll make sure your last moments are more painful than you can imagine. I have
a thousand ways of bringing men to their knees, and one of them would certainly work for you,"
And that wasn't an empty threat.
Everyone knew how I was when I wanted to torture someone.
The torture equipment that decorated the wall was proof of what I could do.
The man spat blood onto the floor, and for a moment, I thought he might laugh again.
But his eyes betrayed him. The fight was draining out of him, his will buckling under the weight of my threat.
He wanted to keep fighting, to hold on strong. But his efforts were futile.
His voice shook when he finally spoke again..
"It's... it's hidden in a warehouse... on the east side. I swear that's all I know." He stuttered out
I said nothing for a long moment, letting his words hang in the ar
I didn't know if to believe him or not, but I had to take my chances.
His chest heaved as he struggled to breathe, his body sagging in the chair.
He had given me the information I needed. I should have felt satisfied, ready to walk away and move on to the next step.
I should have let him go like I need to
But I didn't. Instead, something dark stirred within me, a need that wasn't yet fulfilled.
I needed to see blood.
I slammed my fist into his face again. And again.
The impact reverberated through the small room, each punch accompanied by a sickening thud of my fist against his face. Phillip stood silently by the side, watching me. He knew exactly how I was and so this didn't surprise him. The man's screams echoed off the walls, growing weaker with every blow. But I didn't stop. I couldn't..
The rage that simmered beneath the surface, the rage I had kept carefully contained, was now boiling over.
This man had given me what I wanted, but it wasn't enough. The violence, the blood, it was never enough.
I wanted-No, I needed more.
It wasn't until I heard the soft gasp from behind me that I paused
My first froze mid-swing, and I turned slowly, my eyes locking onto the source of the sound.
Katrina
She stood frozen in the doorway, her eyes wide with horror as she took in the scene before her
She stared between the man and me, her hangers covering her lips.
The blood. The broken man slumped in the chair. The madness in my eyes.
For a long moment, neither of us moved.
I could see the realization dawning in her eyes, the realization that the man she had thought she knew was nothin
than a monster.
And for some reason, that realization sent a thrill through me.
T
This was who I truly was. This was who I had always been and it wasn't going to change.
I waited for the disgust and fear to show in her eyes, for her to stare at me like I was a monster.
Because I was
She gasped again, her breath hitching as she backed away, her body trembling
And then, without a word, she turned and fled, her footsteps echoing up the stairs as she ran
тоге
I didn't follow her
Instead, I stood there, my chest heaving, my knuckles dripping with blood.
Slowly, I wiped my hands on my shirt, my mind strangely calm now that she was gone.
Phillip stepped forward, his expression unreadable as he took in the scene
"She wasn't supposed to see that," he murmured, staring at the man who was now limp in his clair.
1 killed him.
"No, I agreed, my voice flat. "She wasn't."
Phillip watched me carefully, his eyes narrowed. "Doesn't it matter?"
Katrina and I had some kind of relationship, so this should matter
Shouldn't it?
But I shook my head. "It doesn't."
I couldn't afford to care what Katrina had seen, or how it had changed her perception of me.
That part of me, the part that might have cared, was long gone. There was no room for softness, no room for hesitation. Not when I was this close to my goal
"Get the car ready," I said, my voice cold, detached. "We're hitting the warehouse tonight."
