Chapter 34
Chapter 34
After driving very fast , Derek stopped the car.
"You can walk from here to the company."
Meredith got out of the car and looked around. It didn't look like the city center, and she didn't see the
typical high-rise building of the Xavier Group.
"Wait, here..." Meredith was about to ask Derek about it, but he completely ignored her and stepped on
the accelerator and left.
What a bad guy.
Meredith was speechless. She took out her phone to turn on the navigation system, only to find that
Derek had left her a few kilometers away from the Xavier Group.
This man was so narrow-minded! Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
The place where Derek dropped her off was being repaired, so there were very few cars coming and
going that she could not even hitch a ride. Meredith cursed him in her heart, but there was no other
way and she could only walk there.
By the time Meredith finally reached the Xavier Group, she was already half an hour late.
Her clothes were soaked with sweat. In her hurry, she took a short cut, so her clothes were stained with
dust and mud, which made her look a little embarrassed.
"I'm sorry, Miss. We don't allow outsiders to enter the building."
When Meredith was about to enter the building, a security guard stopped her.
Meredith frowned, "I'm Mr. Xavier's new assistant."
The security guard looked at her in disbelief. Xavier Group was the largest company in J City, and the
recruitment standards were very high. Not only did it require a high academic qualifications, but it also
had a strict standard of conduct.
As for the people around the president, they were even more outstanding.
Meredith's dirty and sweaty image was very different from the image he had of the president's
assistant.
At this moment, the manager of the human resources department happened to come over. After
listening to the security guard, she looked at Meredith with disdain in her eyes.
"I'm sorry, Miss. Damian is the only assistant to the president. If you want to approach Mr. Xavier by
this means, you are really overestimating yourself."
Meredith noticed the disdain of her words and she replied, neither humble nor haughty, "You'll know if
I'm his assistant if you call and ask. I'm not that bored to pretend to be an assistant to the president to
attract his attention."
"Heh. It seems that I'm too polite. People like you really can't understand the human language."
"If we make a phone call to annoy Mr. Xavier whenever an insignificant person comes, he will have no
time for anything else but you flirtatious women."
"Security, cut the crap. Get her out of here."
The manager of the human resources department was not kind at all and ordered the security guard to
kick Meredith out directly.
Several tall young security guards came over, "Leave now, or we'll have to throw you out!"
Of course, Meredith couldn't leave. This was her first day at work. If Mr. Xavier found out that she had
been kicked out like this and she didn't work at all, he would be angry and punish her.
Seeing that Meredith didn't cooperate, the security guards were also angry. They picked her up easily
and threw her out.
Just then, a cold voice sounded, "Stop."
Meredith was put down.
She looked back, and found that it was Derek who came out.
"Don't stop her in the future. Let her in."
Hearing this, everyone was shocked. They didn't expect that this countrified woman really knew the
president.
Didn't they just offend her?
Meredith adjusted her crumpled clothes. She was still wondering why Derek was so kind today. It didn't
seem normal.
"Mr. Xavier, is this really your new assistant?" The manager of the human resources department was
nervous.
The man brushed past Meredith's awkwardness indifferently, "This is the servant of my family. In the
future, if anyone needs anything in the company, just call her."
When the rest of the people heard this, they looked happy and sarcastic.
It turned out that she was only a servant who came to serve them, but she dared to say that she was
the assistant to the president...
She was really good at bragging. What a vain woman.
"..." Hearing this, Meredith looked at Derek. He was still so mean.
However, as Derek already said so, she knew that it was futile to explain anything. Therefore, she
could only acquiesce.
Derek looked at his watch, "In the future, remember to get to the company early. You are 35 minutes
late for your first day at work today. Xavier Group does not keep useless people."
If it weren't for him, would she be late?
Meredith retorted in her heart, but her expression did not change at all. Instead, she nodded obediently,
"Yes, I see."
Derek said nothing more and went straight upstairs.
Meredith hurriedly followed him. The man was tall and had long legs, and he didn't want to take care of
her at all. At last she even trotted to catch up with him.
In the elevator, Derek looked out through the transparent glass window. Although he did not say a
word, Meredith felt the dignity of a superior, as if the world was under his feet and under his control.
After peeking at the man, Meredith moved her eyes away from him.
"Although grandpa asks you to work here, don't think that you have a backing. I hate incompetent
people to secure advantages through influence. If you can't do what I ask you to do, you'd better get
out of here."
Meredith listened to the man's icy tone, "I see."
Wasn't it just work? His tone roused Meredith to unyielding spirit. She had to do well to make this man
regret his arrogance at the moment.
The elevator soon reached the top floor.
This floor was Derek's private space. Meredith followed the man and couldn't help but gasp in
admiration as they walked.
It was good to have money. In such an area where the housing price was so high, he owned an entire
floor. The Xaviers was really rich.
"Put away your ignorant look." Derek saw the admiration and surprise on Meredith's face through a
glass.
Meredith then kept a straight face and stopped looking around. She finally understood why Derek and
the people around him had a poker face.
If she didn't keep an expressionless face, this man would be able to read her minds and give her a
blow.
"Damian, tell her what she should do and keep her away from anything important." Derek had a
meeting later, so he asked Damian to arrange Meredith's work.
Damian answered quickly, thought and said, "You can just go and clean up that bookshelf over there.
Arrange the books by name and year, and then clean the glass."
Derek was a neat freak and had obsessive-compulsive disorder. Damian didn't dare to let Meredith go
to his office, so he only found an unimportant job for her.
"Got it." Meredith glanced at the huge bookshelf and walked over. She willingly bore the burden of hard
works.
At this moment, her cell phone rang again. Meredith glanced at the name on it, and she frowned.
