Chapter 2295
Chapter 2295
After reaching an agreement, Ralph went home and shared the news with Wyatt and Mila.
Wyatt assumed that Mila was simply too anxious to see her son and had made a mistake, so he did not hold out much hope. However, Mila fell into a deep disappointment, and the emotional shock hit her hard
Initially, she questioned everything intensely, but eventually, she had no choice but to accept reality. She collapsed onto the bed and remained there for three or four days.
It was not until Bella returned home that Mila gathered enough strength to get up and ask again, *Bella... Are you sure it isn't Hugh? Are you really sure?"
Her eyes were filled with tears. The usually graceful and youthful-looking woman had become dejected in just a few days, appearing several years older.
"Aunt Mila, I understand how you feel. I wish just as much as you do that Hugh was still alive." Bella's voice choked with emotion as she held Mila's cold hand tightly. "But unfortunately, that person isn't Hugh. He just looks very much like him."
Mila closed her eyes in utter disappointment and shook her head in pain. "Bella, you might think I'm being ridiculous, but ever since Hugh's plane crash, I've often dreamed of him over the years. I have this constant feeling... I always believe... Hugh is still alive somewhere in this world, quietly living... He just can't find his way home..."
"Aunt Mila..." Bella almost burst into tears but managed to hold back.
Blood was indeed thicker than water. A mother and child shared an instinctive, unbreakable connection that went deeper than words could describe.
"Nevermind. Let's not talk about this anymore." Mila made an effort to pull herself together, gently wiping away her tears with a handkerchief before calmly instructing a maid, "Prepare a set of low-profile clothes for me, and have the driver get the car ready."
After the maid left, Bella asked with concern, "Aunt Mila, where are you going?"
Mila's gaze was cold. "I'm going to Hatchbay Prison."
Bella was stunned. Slowly she asked, "Are you going to visit Uncle Alvin?"
"Yes. I heard that Justin's condition is due to some inexplicable drug that damaged his brain. Alvin is an expert in biopharmaceuticals. I want to ask him if there's any solution."
Bella's heart skipped a beat, and she immediately became energetic. "Aunt Mila, if you don't mind, I'd like to go with you!"
Over an hour had passed before Bella and Mila arrived at Hatchbay Prison.
Inside the visitation area, they encountered Alvin, dressed in a prison uniform, handcuffed, and looking haggard
"Mila... Ms. Thompson." After undergoing a long period of imprisonment, Alvin sat upright before them, with none of the arrogant and domineering attitude he once had.
Mila met his gaze with a cold stare and remained silent for a moment, making it clear that she still harbored resentment towards this man.
Bella had come with a purpose. She did not want to provoke more resistance from Alvin, so she politely greeted him, "Uncle."
Mila's eyes widened as she stared blankly at the girl's delicate and fair face.
Ever since Bella's biological mother passed away, Mila and Bella had always gotten along harmoniously over the years. However, Bella had never acknowledged her connection to the families of the three ladies.
Mila had never expected to take the place of Bella's mother, but this "Uncle" seemed to acknowledge her identity as well.
"Ms. Thompson, I don't deserve that title!" Alvin hastily waved his hands, causing the handcuffs to rattle.* Disregarding my current state as a criminal despised by everyone, I'm just an adopted son of the Larson family, with no blood relation to Mila. I don't deserve to be called that."
"We're here because we have something to ask you." Mila went straight to the point.
Alvin could not help but worry, "Is there some trouble in managing the Larson Biotech?"
"The Larson Biotech is fine. It's Justin who's having issues." Mila's brows furrowed as she briefly recounted the recent events to Alvin.
"Uncle, what kind of powerful drug could cause Justin to suddenly lose his emotional capabilities?" Bella asked, her voice hoarse with urgency.
Alvin looked surprised and said, "T've worked in the biopharmaceutical industry for many years, and I've never heard of such a bizarre and dangerous thing. I know some people's personalities can change drastically after a significant head injury. In the past, I even encountered a patient whose emotional functions were affected by a bullet fragment lodged in the brain."
Bella looked at Mila with disappointment.
Suddenly, Alvin's eyes lit up, and his expression darkened. "I remember now. There is one thing that could cause such a condition!"ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
Bella leaned forward abruptly. "What is it?!"
Alvin gritted his teeth and said, "Drugs!"
The two women gasped sharply.
