Forbidden Sorcery
Joshua walked in and was curious to know about Iris-Adolphus’s relationship. “It seems that the Alpha has a strange liking for the servant,” Joshua said.
“Her name is Iris, Joshua,” Adolphus corrected him, “more precisely, you should pronounce her as Miss Iris.” Adolphus settled back on the tall chair and picked up the scroll.
“Clear my schedule for tomorrow. I will go myself and check the situation in Bryxton Town,” Adolphus told Joshua with a menacing expression.
“Yes, Your Royal Highness,” Joshua bowed, turning to leave when he came to a halt. “Why is the Crown Prince so good to Miss Iris? If the King and the Queen find out about this, then the Crown Prince may be in danger. However, before that, Miss Iris will be thrown out,” he said.
“Why would anyone have a problem with Iris? I will handle it if such a situation arises,” Adolphus stated. His answer was vague, as he didn’t tell Joshua why he was good to Iris.
“I have decided to visit the mortuary with you,” Adolphus said, and rose to his feet. He walked ahead while Joshua followed him. They arrived at the mortuary, where the physicians and the servants quickly aligned to greet him.
“I want to see the bodies that are retrieved,” Adolphus said.
The Chief Physician, Bastian, came forward and asked the Crown Prince to come with him. They entered a room, where the two human bodies were put on different platforms. Bastian removed the white cloth from the face of the first one and let Adolphus see it.
The pale white body with purplish marks wasn’t a pleasing sight at all. “It appears to be a sorcery to me, Your Royal Highness,” Bastian answered. Joshua checked the second body and asked Adolphus to take a look at that too.
Adolphus turned and saw the reddish brown mark on the neck of the body. “Strange! This body has a different mark,” Joshua said, and looked at Adolphus.
“Witches have once again appeared. They are attacking humans to threaten us,” Bastian stated. His tone appeared full of worry.
“The body of the werewolf, who was killed, will soon be here, Your Royal Highness,” Joshua informed the Crown Prince. He carried a menacing expression on his face and continued to study the body before him.
“Crown Prince, don’t touch it,” Joshua said as Adolphus extended his hand out to touch the reddish mark on the corpse lying before him.
“Nothing will happen,” Adolphus assured him, touching his two fingers to the marked spot. The marked region appeared to be colder than the rest of the body, and it seemed unusual to Adolphus.
“Did you find out about the sorcery done on it?” Joshua asked Bastian. He shook his head and refused.
“Revival,” Adolphus responded, pulling his hand back. Joshua glanced at Adolphus in confusion.
“The witch used old, forbidden dark magic to revive herself. We need to find her before things slip out of our hands,” Adolphus opined. He tilted his head to look at Bastian and asked him if he found anything unusual in the two bodies.
“Except the strange marks, there’s nothing, Your Royal Highness. Because of the forbidden sorcery, these bodies turned pale,” Bastian answered.
Adolphus hummed and wiped his fingers with the handkerchief. “Find out the families of these bodies. They must be worried,” Adolphus said, and told Joshua to do their last rites if he was unable to find the families. Joshua bowed, and soon, they left the mortuary too.
“Your Royal Highness, if witches are performing sorcery, then it’s not favorable to us. We still do not know where these witches are hiding,” Joshua said, with an anxious look.
“Maybe they are among humans. It’s easy to hide among them,” Adolphus stated. They halted at their places when they saw Nicholai’s daughter, Juvia, approaching them.
“How will the Crown Prince escape this?” Joshua whispered near Adolphus’ ear. He narrowly gazed at him and decided to go in the opposite direction when Juvia stopped him.
“Crown Prince Adolphus!” Juvia pronounced in her soft voice. He turned to look at her and asked why she was in the palace.
“To give this lunch box to my father,” Juvia answered, and looked at the servant with her.
“Your Royal Highness, I baked some cookies for you along with apple pies. The Crown Prince’s favorite fruit is apples, so I decided to make something delicious for him,” Juvia said, and took the box from the servant’s hands. She presented it to Adolphus. However, he refused her.
Adolphus took the box from her, and it delighted Juvia. Joshua was stunned because he thought that Adolphus would refuse to accept that.
“Sadly, I don’t like apples anymore. So, these pies will go to waste. As for the cookies, I stopped eating them too,” Adolphus said, and stopped a female servant.
“Take this,” Adolphus told her.
Juvia felt bad when Adolphus handed the box to a servant. She had prepared them with so much love. However, she kept a smile on her face, not wanting Adolphus to see that she was hurt.
“If the daughter of the Chief Council Head has nothing more to say, then she can leave,” Adolphus stated. “Joshua will take you to your dear father.”
Joshua was surprised to learn that and agreed to the Crown Prince’s demand.
“Yes, Your Royal Highness,” Juvia said, and left with Joshua.
Adolphus turned and saw Iris, who was gazing at him. She averted her gaze and walked away while carrying the heavy basket full of clothes to the washhouse.
“Why did I suddenly feel that she was upset with me?” Adolphus mumbled and decided to follow her.NôvelDrama.Org content rights.
Iris went to the washhouse and washed the linen shirts of the Crown Prince. “Why does he have to hurt that lady? He indeed doesn’t possess a compassionate heart,” she mumbled and wrung the shirts into the water. She put those shirts into a clean wooden bucket and stood up.
“Ahh!” She was intimidated by the sudden presence of Adolphus before her. “What is the Crown Prince doing here?” She inquired while resting her hand on her chest. She was scared as he appeared suddenly before her.
“Why did you make that face earlier?” Adolphus asked.
“What face?” Iris confusedly glanced at him.
“As if you were upset with me,” Adolphus said.
“I didn’t make any faces,” Iris answered. “What is the Crown Prince doing in the washhouse? If someone sees him, then it will not be good,” Iris affirmed.
“I locked it from the inside,” Adolphus said.
“What?” Iris pushed him away, once again forgetting that he was the Crown Prince. She ran to the door, opened it, and walked out.
Adolphus chuckled, and he decided to go after her.
