The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 95

Chapter 95

While Cordelia was taking a shower, Ronan texted his assistant to do a background check on her

school records.

Cordelia was snuggled up in bed, all warm and cozy. It was the start of winter and the heating had just

kicked in, so it was still a bit chilly. Plus, she just got out of the shower, so she felt extra cold.

"So why did you choose to work at Lumos Enterprises?" Ronan asked Cordelia, who was in his arms.

Cordelia hesitated for a moment, "Everyone in Millstone knows you're a looker."

"Is that so? Did you have a thing for me from the start?" Ronan queried.

Cordelia burst into laughter, avoiding further comment on the subject.

The next day, while Cordelia was at work, The Suit Gallery delivered two shirts, one dark grey and one

navy blue. Both shirts were custom-made to the measurements she provided last time.

A shop assistant waited in Cordelia's office, asking if Ronan could try them on. If they didn't fit, they

could take them back for alterations and have them ready by the afternoon.

Cordelia thought it over. Ronan had never worn a navy blue shirt before and he was picky about his

clothes. She decided it was best to let him see it first. So she texted Ronan, [The Suit Gallery has

dropped off two shirts for you to try on. They can take them back for alterations if they don't fit.]

Ronan replied, [Bring them up.]

Cordelia left the shop assistant in the conference room and went to find Ronan with the shirts.

Once she arrived at his office, she noticed a middle-aged woman she didn't recognize. The woman was

eyeing her with a somewhat unfriendly expression.

"These are the shirts. Since you haven't worn this color before, I thought you might not like it, so I

brought them here for you to check them out." Cordelia placed the shirts neatly on the table, revealing

the labels.

"What do you think?" Ronan looked up at Cordelia.

"Hmm." Cordelia looked at the shirts and said, "I think they're lovely. Everything looks good on you."

Ronan chuckled, "Everything looks good when you're looking at someone you love."

"I'm serious." Cordelia protested, thinking, “What's gotten into Ronan? He's even saying things like this.

Kinda cheesy, but I'm happy.”

Without arguing further, Ronan said, "Come with me to try them on."

"Where to?" Cordelia asked, glancing again at the middle-aged woman.

If they were alone, Ronan could just try on the shirts in his office.

"The bathroom. Let's go." Ronan led Cordelia to the bathroom.

Once they were behind closed doors, Cordelia had Ronan bend down so she could whisper in his ear,

"Who's that lady outside?"

Cordelia wondered if that woman was a relative of Ronan's, hadn't she done something wrong?

"Don't worry about it. She's not important." Ronan began changing clothes.

Cordelia was skilled at helping Ronan change, her movements smooth and practiced.

As she helped him change, she whispered, "I thought she was someone from your family. She scared

me for a second."

"What are you afraid of?" Ronan asked her, "Are you afraid to meet my mom?"

Cordelia didn't respond, but a sweet feeling rose in her heart. However, she had no idea where

Ronan's mother was.

"Check the mirror. Do the shirts fit?" Cordelia said.

Cordelia stood behind Ronan, looking at his reflection. He was dashing, fit, and utterly captivating. She

couldn't help but think how lucky she was to share a bed with such a man. But she knew it would never

be hers. She had to wake up from this dream at some point. And what was wrong with dreaming a little

longer?

"They fit." Ronan then began to unbutton his shirt.

Cordelia helped him change while saying, "Should I tell them that they can make shirts in this color in

the future? Should the shirts stay here for now?"

"Go ahead." Ronan said.

Cordelia left the bathroom, nodded at the seemingly unfriendly middle-aged woman, and walked out

the door.

"So that's your wife?" The woman said, "She seems very dutiful, probably takes good care of you. I bet

you're quite comfortable."

Her words were filled with sarcasm, implying that Ronan had only married Cordelia to have a caretaker.

"On the contrary, she always manages to get on my nerves." Ronan neatly folded the shirt and casually

placed it on the couch, a smirk playing on his lips.

The middle-aged woman glanced at the shirt next to her, noting the label. Very unique, both retro and

classic.

If she remembered correctly, Ronan's wife's name was Cordelia.

"By the way, Ronan, don't forget my request." She added, "And this is just between you and me.

Deanna doesn't know about it. The house doesn't have to be in my name, just put it in yours."

She was Deanna's mother, Leila.

"I know. I have a new house over on Peace Avenue. You can move in whenever you want. I'll have

someone deliver the keys later." Ronan was smiling, but it was a forced smile, devoid of warmth.

"Thank you, Ronan. I just feel like I'm getting old and I miss Deanna. Plus, Nikolas..." Leila's voice

trailed off, tears welling in her eyes.

"Let's not talk about Nikolas." Ronan's voice dropped.

After Leila left, she mentioned to Deanna that Cordelia had helped Ronan try on shirts. It seemed that

the shirts Ronan was wearing now were custom-made by Cordelia, with her trademark on them.

Deanna plopped onto the couch, looking all miffed. Ronan wasn't wearing the custom-made clothes

she got him. Instead, he was putting on a shirt from Cordelia and he had given away all the clothes she Còntens bel0ngs to Nô(v)elDr/a/ma.Org

gifted him!

"Ronan, what's up with your taste, seriously?" Deanna thought.

"Oh, right. Mom, we need to move into the house Ronan gave us ASAP. After all, it's under his name."

One plan failed, Deanna started scheming another one.

"No problem, Ronan said that house is all set. We can just move in." Leila said.

"Oh, yeah. And remember, never ever mention that incident from six years ago in front of Cordelia.

Turns out, she's the one who's been a thorn in our side, always stirring up trouble for us. Remember,

it'd be best if she doesn't bring it up in front of Ronan either. If she spills the beans, we're gonna be in

trouble." Deanna warned.

"Got it." Leila's face turned dead serious.
