The Contracted Ever After (Cordelia and Ronan)

Chapter 68

Chapter 68

Cordelia returned to the office, her face gloomy and she remained silent.

She headed back to her dorm all by herself around six in the afternoon.

Just so happened that Edwin was there too. Seeing Cordelia, he greeted, "You're back, Cordelia?"

Brooklyn shot Edwin a glare.

Brooklyn had told Edwin about Cordelia's marriage to Ronan, but didn't spill too many beans, just that

Cordelia was hitched and her hubby was Ronan.

Brooklyn could see Edwin had a thing for Cordelia, and wanted him to get over it sooner rather than

later.

Brooklyn asked her, "What brings you back here?"

"Don't even get me started, I'm absolutely livid. He's just too much!" Cordelia tossed her bag onto her

bed.

"What in the world happened?" Brooklyn asked her, "If you're feeling down, how about we go grab

some barbecue? Edwin's treating us to a feast. If I knew you were coming back tonight, I would've

dragged you out of the office."

"Sure, why not. A barbecue sounds good. I don't have to work today or tomorrow anyway." Edwin was

trying to ease the tension, he didn't expect to run into Cordelia today.

Cordelia was thinking: she did nothing wrong. She told her brother about her fake pregnancy to stop his

blackmail. She had explained it all to Ronan, but why won't he believe that she's not pregnant? He

even suspected that she actually had an abortion while he was away. What's going on in his head?

"Let's go." Cordelia finally said, out of frustration.

The three of them walked out of the dorm together. Brooklyn didn't press Cordelia for details because

Edwin was there. She knew that Cordelia and Ronan had a fight about the abortion, but Cordelia's

pregnancy was a hoax from the start. The pregnancy test was even hers. Doesn't Ronan know that?

Thankfully, Cordelia's old dorm bed was still available.

Ronan drove out of the underground parking, saw the three people chatting at the dorm entrance and

frowned. Is she really not bothered, or she just doesn't care?

He drove away in a hurry.

Back home, Barney asked, "Where's Della, why didn't she come back?"

Ronan slumped on the couch, rubbing his forehead, "She's staying at the dorm."

"Why is she back at the dorm again?"

Ronan paused, then said, "Grandpa."

"What?"

"Our baby is gone. It was an accident." Ronan looked guilty and upset.

Surprisingly, Barney was very open-minded, "It's okay, it's okay. You guys don't have to feel guilty,

especially not Della. If the baby's gone, it just means it wasn't meant to be. You guys will have another Nôvel/Dr(a)ma.Org - Content owner.

child, right? Ronan?"

Barney looked at Ronan expectantly, hoping for a reassuring answer.

But Ronan wasn't sure if that day would come.

"Yes, grandpa." Ronan had to brush it off.

"Then call Della back." Barney sat across Ronan, pleading.

Ronan remembered how happy Cordelia looked when she left with others, and felt the irony.

"Maybe another day." He said.

"When is another day? No later than tomorrow!"

Ronan pondered for a moment then said, "Alright."

Barney sent a message to Cordelia, "Della, why did he drive you out again?"

Cordelia was enjoying the barbecue, she looked very happy, but she was actually using this happiness

to mask her inner hurt and resentment.

Seeing Barney's message warmed her heart and softened the blow.

She wiped her nose and replied to Barney, "I guess I screwed up."

Barney sent another message, "Come back after you've cheered up. He's also having a hard time, try

to understand him."

Cordelia replied, "Barney, I'm planning to go shopping with my roommates tomorrow, is that okay?"

Barney replied, "Just make sure you come back soon. I worry when you're out there on your own."

Cordelia read this message over and over again. It's been a long time since anyone cared about her

like this.

Cordelia's eyes welled up, she missed Barney too.

But even if she wanted to go back, she needed Ronan's approval, and to be honest, she didn't want to

go back.

She thought, maybe only Deanna's words were credible in Ronan's eyes.

The more Cordelia thought about it, the more she felt it wasn't worth it. On her way home, she even

blocked Ronan's number.

He can forget about finding her.
