The Cherished Wife

Chapter 540

"What more do you want? I've only been investigating for a short time, so there isn't much information yet. If you really want answers, you might be better off digging into Sebastian or Samuel directly; it could be faster!" Peter explained that this was all he knew and did not have much more to offer. Charles furrowed his brows. This matter was indeed difficult to handle. With so many years gone by, finding any clues would not be easy.

Not to mention, if someone was deliberately hiding the truth, uncovering it would be even harder.

"Jade and Sebastian's relationship doesn't seem very good." Charles recalled that when Sebastian had been his student, he had actually seen Jade a few times.

However, Jade likely did not recognize him back then and certainly had not paid him any attention. "For your next steps, start with Sebastian and Jade."

"Alright! I'll give it a try!" Peter shrugged. "Fancy a game?"

Meanwhile, Noelle's group was engaged in a lively conversation. Brian and George were getting along famously, both being admirable figures in their field who respected each other's accomplishments.NôvelDrama.Org (C) content.

George admired Brian greatly, saying, "Brian, if you hadn't come back, you would've achieved even greater things by now!"

Brian's eyes flickered, and he gave a subtle smile. "That's not necessarily true. At the time, I had a reason I couldn't ignore. No matter what achievements I might have made abroad, I wouldn't have been happy if I hadn't returned."

Noelle paused upon hearing this. Though she had not been working with Brian for too long, she had gotten to know him fairly well.

She understood his dedication to his work-nothing could sway his commitment. If there had really been such great opportunities, why would Brian have given them up to return home?

Seeing Noelle's puzzled expression, Brian simply smiled faintly. "There was someone very important."

"Oh? Did you find that important person?" George's eyes sparkled with curiosity. "You told me back then that you were coming back to find her. I thought you were just making excuses, but it turns out she really exists?"

Brian hesitated, his gaze growing dim. He smiled slightly, saying, "I did find her, but it seems I've lost her again."

Seeing Brian like this, Noelle felt a twinge of sympathy. "You're such a good person, Mr. Parker. I'm sure you'll meet someone even better in the future."

"Thank you." Brian smiled, brushing off the sentiment. "But I think she's doing well now, so it doesn't matter much to me anymore. Let's talk about something else."

That evening, Charles hosted a dinner for George and Brian. Noelle noticed that Brian seemed to be interested in Teresa, so she invited Teresa along under the pretext that it would be awkward to be the only woman in the group.

She persuaded Teresa to join them as her company.

Teresa initially wanted to decline. Though she knew Noelle and Charles, she was not familiar with the others beyond Noelle. However, Noelle's persistent invitation made it hard for her to refuse, so the group ended up going to Saltgrass House together.

Noelle had reserved a table in advance. The choice of Saltgrass House was made to suit George's tastes. While it was not one of the top restaurants in Brookville it was one of the most historic.

The owner was a descendant of a chef who served Westel's ancient king, and the dishes they served were renowned for their quality.

Many people visited just to experience it, so if Noelle had not booked ahead, they might not have been able to get in.
