Chapter 524
"She does."
"And she's still pushing you to marry J?" Noelle was dumbfounded, but noticing Charles's troubled look, she quickly flashed a smile and steered the conversation elsewhere. "So, where are we headed now?"
"We're going to pick someone up."
Charles glanced at Noelle. "Don't worry about me. If you want to know more about J, I'll fill you in. But we've got bigger fish to fry right now." He said this and playfully tousled Noelle's hair.Content is © by NôvelDrama.Org.
Noelle was not having it this time. She flicked Charles's hand off her head. "Quit it with the head-patting. You've totally wrecked my hair. Weren't we supposed to meet some bigwigs soon? How am I supposed to show my face like this!" She pulled out a compact mirror from her purse and, seeing the hair disaster Charles had caused, shot him a look that could freeze lava. "Next time, hands off the hair unless I say so, got it?"
Charles gave her a sideways glance, his eyes dancing with mischief as he nodded. "Got it!"
With a sigh, Noelle dabbed at her face with a powder puff. "Seriously, where are you off to?" She watched as Charles's car zoomed off, heading toward the outskirts. "Is that... the road to the airport? Are you going to pick up someone?"
Noelle raised an eyebrow. "Who's this VIP that you're rolling out the red carpet for?"
Usually, Charles's secretary would handle airport runs, or Ronald at most for the really important folks. Whoever Charles was going to meet must be a pretty big deal.
"It's no biggie. I was going to send Ronald, but I had him go to Royal Star Entertainment instead. I didn't have much on my plate today, so I figured, why not do the pickup instead of drowning in paperwork at Royal Star?"
A playful smirk crossed Noelle's face as she let out a chuckle. "Nice move. But does Mr. Wells have any clue you've left him holding down the fort?"
Charles's brow creased as he locked
eyes with Noelle. "I'm the boss. I pay him a lot, so of course, I expect him I to tackle the tough stuff for me," he said, pausing before he dropped another bombshell. "And there's an even bigger reason behind it!"
"Oh?" Noelle's eyebrow arched in intrigue. "What's that?"
"Something's come up with Winter, and it wouldn't be right for me to step in," Charles explained, his fingers rhythmically drumming on the steering wheel. Noelle's attention was caught by the mention of Winter. "Winter? What's she gotten herself into?"
Noelle had been swamped with the West City Development Project lately and hadn't had the bandwidth to keep tabs on Winter. Besides, Noelle usually stayed out of Winter's way unless she came knocking with trouble. Hearing about Winter's predicament left Noelle momentarily taken aback.
"The details are fuzzy, so I've sent Ronald to deal with it," Charles continued. "It's probably just some drama with the film crew. She's been on set recently, right? She won't have a chance to bug you for now."
"That's true." Noelle conceded with a nod. "Mr. Wells mentioned she's heading to Ivory Heights soon, so she'll be too busy to bother me. Even if she wanted to, she'd be spread too thin."
