Chapter 16 Care
When Allison woke up, it was already midnight. Thanks to the anesthesia, she'd been out for a solid six hours.
She blinked her eyes open and noticed the dim lights in the hospital room. Turning her head, she saw an IV needle stuck in her right hand.
Allison shifted a bit and felt a burning pain in her left arm, making her cry out.
"How are you feeling? Does it hurt a lot?" Alexander's deep voice cut through the silence.
Allison was taken aback, asking, "Mr. Carter, what are you doing here?"
Alexander gave her a long look but didn't answer directly. "Your anesthesia just wore off, so your arm must be killing you. The wound is deep and will take some time to heal."
Allison stayed quiet. She tried to sit up, but before she could, Alexander's hand was already behind her head, helping her up.
She caught a whiff of mint from him, a nice change from the usual smoke and alcohol smell most guys had. His features were sharp, with thick eyebrows and bright eyes. Alexander's face was almost perfect, oozing masculine vibes. "What's wrong? Is there something on my face?" he asked.
Allison snapped back to reality and quickly looked away. It was the first time she'd been this close to a guy, and she awkwardly shrank back.
Seeing her blush, Alexander couldn't help but smile. He didn't expect her to be shy. "Are you hungry? Want something to eat?"
There was a thermos of warm porridge on the bedside table. Allison thought for a moment and said, "I should probably ask the doctor first!"
Alexander nodded and went to find a doctor, who came in to check on her.
The doctor said, "She can have liquid food. Her arm might get infected, so keep an eye on her temperature. If she shows any signs of fever, call me immediately!"
Alexander nodded, opened the thermos, and found oatmeal porridge inside, handing it to her.
But with one arm injured, even moving her right hand to eat pulled on her left hand, making the pain worse. Alexander then took the thermos and started feeding her.
Allison felt even more embarrassed and said, "Mr. Carter, could you find a nurse for me? My arm will probably need at least a week in the hospital!"
Alexander raised an eyebrow and kept feeding her. "I'll stay to take care of you, and Mia will come on the weekends!"
He hadn't told the Carter Family about Mia almost getting splashed with acid. If they found out, it would cause chaos in Skycrest.
Plus, the Carter Family already had enough enemies lurking around. So, Allison's situation had to stay under wraps for now.novelbin
But this made things awkward for Allison. She wasn't very familiar with Alexander, yet he insisted on staying to take care of her.
"Mr. Carter, you must be very busy. You really don't need to stay at the hospital," she said.
"Not at all. I can work from here," Alexander replied.
He had arranged for Allison to stay in a VIP room, which was a suite. He worked in the living room, so he didn't interfere with her daily routine. Usually, there was no issue when Allison ate or slept, but what about when she needed to use the bathroom?
Allison's arm was out of commission, and her other hand was hooked up to an IV. She wanted to go to the bathroom by herself, but Alexander insisted, "I'll help you in!"
Allison protested, "Mr. Carter, this isn't appropriate!"
But Alexander wouldn't back down. When she turned around, he was still standing at the bathroom door, making her super awkward.
"Mr. Carter, please close the door!" Allison said.
Though Alexander was worried about leaving her alone, he wasn't a creep. He closed the door. "I'll be right outside. Call me if you need anything!" Allison finally breathed a sigh of relief.
Early in the morning, James showed up with a stack of documents. He and Alexander discussed something outside to avoid waking Allison.
She slept for a bit and woke up to the sound of someone knocking on the door. Groggy, she asked, "Mr. Carter, is that you?"
The door opened, and someone walked in with a bouquet of flowers. When Allison saw Everett, her expression instantly darkened. "Ms. Bennett, I heard you were injured, so I came to see you," Everett said.
Allison looked at him with indifference. "Get out of here."
Everett paused. He had just found out last night that Sophia had caused trouble and injured someone, and that person was Allison.
Everett thought Sophia and Allison had fought over him, so he bought flowers early in the morning to visit Allison. After all, she got hurt because of him, and he felt quite sorry for her. "Allison, I know you're angry. I won't let that bitch Sophia get away with this! Also, I'll cover all your medical expenses and find the best doctor to treat your arm!"
Allison sneered, looking at Everett with contempt and said, "It's none of your business, Mr. Stevens. I don't care about your relationship with Sophia. I don't want to see either of you again! Please leave immediately!" Allison's attitude was icy, but Everett remained enthusiastic.
He remarked, "Allison, I know you're upset. But I really like you. From the first time I saw you, I fell in love. Can you understand that feeling? I've never felt this way about anyone before. Allison, let's be together when you get out of the hospital!"
But after waiting for a while, there was no response. Everett looked up to see Allison staring at him as if he were an idiot.
"Mr. Stevens, I have no interest in you whatsoever, and I even find you repulsive! I got hurt because of Sophia, which was completely unprovoked. Whatever punishment she gets is my business, not yours!" Allison retorted.
It was hard to understand why Sophia liked Everett. Besides being rich and having a stupid head, he had nothing going for him. He was even delusional enough to think Allison fought with Sophia over him.
"I'm not interested in you. Please leave immediately, or I'll call someone!" Allison's face turned cold.
It was the first time Everett had been rejected by a woman, and his face darkened. "I know you're still angry. I won't give up. I'll come back to see you tomorrow!" With that, Everett left the flowers and walked out, leaving Allison fuming.
