Chapter 55
The Billionaire’s Ex-Wife (Her Ex-Husband’s Regret) Chapter 55
Cassie.
“Cassie, are you okay?” Kayden reaches out for me. I can hear genuine concern in his voice. “I’m here, okay?”
“Yes, Kayden. I’m okay.”
“Let’s wait for the emergency power to kick in.” He finds my hand and gives it a squeeze.
(.
I bite my lower lip. ‘What was I thinking?’ Was I really about to kiss Kayden a while ago? If there wasn’t a black out, he would have kissed me, and I know I was going to kiss him back. We’re in bed now. Who knows how far we could have gone?
After a few more seconds, then the lights went back on.
Kayden stares back at me. There’s a look of concern all over his face. I would have killed for him to look at me that way four years ago when he found me inside my burning house.
Remembering that day four years ago brought back painful memories in my mind. I pull my hand from his and I look away from him.
“I’m sorry, you had to see me cry like that,” I say, quickly wiping my cheeks. I stand up from the bed and turn my back on him. “I need to change. Please give me some privacy.”
He doesn’t say anything for a full minute. Then he sighs heavily and says, “Cassie… if there’s something that’s bothering you, you can tell me. I’m here. I will do everything I can to make everything alright for you.”
“Huh!” I scoff. I turn to him, raising a brow. “Sure, I believe you. Like you did everything you could to rescue me from my mother’s burning house?”
“No,” he replies. “I’m not that guy anymore.”
“That’s too bad,” I say. “I kinda fell for that guy. I guess I really was a poor judge of character.”
Okay, I know I’m not being fair to him. I’m sad and frustrated, and I think I’m venting out all my frustrations on him.
“Cassie, I know you’re upset,” he says. His voice is even calmer than before. “I will give you some space. I’ll just be outside.”
He gives me a reassuring smile before stepping out of the room.
‘Da*n it!’ I throw myself in bed. ‘What was I thinking?’This is the property of Nô-velDrama.Org.
I snap at Kayden, I choose to be angry at him. Because I thought I would have a better chance of resisting him if I try hating him.
I receive a message from Lyn.
“Don’t worry yourself too much. I have spoken to Attorney Magnus. Alberte has two siblings and two cousins who are all willing to help Kai. One of them should be a match. Don’t lose hope.”
I just hope that one of them will come through. I’m scared that I’m running out of time. I cannot lose Kai. It will be the end for me, too.
After dressing up, I go out to the living room. Kayden is standing by the window, staring out into the darkness of the storm. He turns around as he hears me enter, a look of concern still etched on his face. He has also showered and changed into a

pair of pajama pants and a white shirt. He is holding a glass of whiskey in his hands.
“Are you feeling better?” he asks.
I nod. “I’m… sorry for acting…”
He takes a step closer to me and puts a finger over my lips, effectively silencing me. “Ssshhh… there’s nothing to be sorry about. What you said back there was completely justifiable. I was a total a*s to you before. And I mean it. I’m no longer that guy. And I hope someday, I can get a chance to prove it to you.”
His voice is sober, sad and yearning. I feel the weight of his words sinking into me as I lock eyes with him. There’s a vulnerability in his gaze that I haven’t seen before, a rawness that tugs at my heart. I want to believe him, to trust that he’s

And even if he tries to prove to me that he’s a changed man, what difference will it make now? We’re no more than business colleagues. Whatever he does should not affect me in any way anymore.
I turn away from him. “Can we order something? I’m starving.”
“Of course,” he says apologetically. “I’ve already ordered dinner. I hope you don’t mind but I’ve ordered for you. I was afraid their kitchen would be packed, and they will take too long to deliver our order.”
“That’s alright. At this rate, I’ll eat anything.”
The doorbell rings.
“That must be dinner,” Kayden smiles and then he heads towards the door.
He opens the door, and a waiter stands there with a covered silver platter. The aroma of the food wafts into the room, making my stomach growl in anticipation.
After a few minutes, we sit opposite each other on the dining table.
He ordered salmon and baked pasta for me, which is perfect because I would have ordered the same thing from them.
Kayden pulls out a chair for me and gestures for me to sit. “Come on. Let’s eat.”
He pours us each a glass of wine, the rich crimson liquid swirling in the glass like a dance of passion. At first, we eat in silence, both of us lost in our own thoughts.
“How’s the salmon?” he asks.
“Quite good,” I reply. “This hotel is surprising me. It’s quite charming and the food is really good.”
“That’s something coming from you,” he says.
“Why? Don’t you find your food to your liking?”
“It is good. However, I’ve had better,” he replies.
“I’m sure. You’ve been all over the world. I’m sure you’d have found some other restaurant that would serve you better beef medallions.”
He looks at me for a moment and then he slices à piece of beef, like he’s recalling a fond memory. “You’re right. I’ve probably eaten all the beef medallions in the world. It’s my classing favorite. However, I can say that that the best one was

still yours.”
“Huh?” I blink back at him, not quite sure what he meant by what he said.
“Yes. You cook the best beef medallions in the world.”
“Really? You remember my beef medallions? That was ages ago. I thought you don’t eat what I serve you.
“I ate everything that you served me,” he replied. “I prefer them to what our inhouse chef cooks. I remember myself always looking forward to eating whatever you prepared for me.”
I feel a warm rush of surprise and nostalgia wash over me. When we were married, I tried everything to please him. I learned his favorites and tried to cook them. I never knew he actually appreciated anything that I did for him.
“Thank you,” I say. “You never told me that you liked my cooking before.”
“I know. I loved it. And I miss it every day.” I can hear the sadness in his voice, which tells me that he means it. “Maybe you should cook for me tomorrow?”
I blink back at him. “Tomorrow?”
He nods. “I missed it. And tomorrow, we would have something to celebrate anyway.”
“And what is that?”
He raises a brow. “You don’t remember?”
I stare back at him blankly. “I really don’t know what you are talking about.”
“Well…” He sighs. “Tomorrow is our wedding anniversary.”
