The Billionaire Who Stole My Heart

Chapter 996

"Congratulations."

"Time to dig in!" Yuri tugged Brittany into the dining room, his voice ringing with the warmth of family.

Saskia's smile faded a tad, and after a long moment, she followed suit with less enthusiasm.

Yuri had the kitchen whip up Brittany's favorites: sweet and sour pork ribs, a hearty chicken soup that could warm the soul on any given Sunday, and a heaping plate of her beloved sweet and sour fish. Saskia's morning sickness wasn't done with her yet. The tangy scent made her stomach churn. This text is © NôvelDrama/.Org.

"Blech..." Clamping her hand over her mouth, Saskia rushed to the bathroom.

Gabriel was quick on his heels. "Saskia!"

Brittany didn't expect such a strong reaction. "Dad, maybe we should switch to some lighter dishes?" "No need. I'll have the kitchen prepare something lighter. You enjoy your meal."

After finally being discharged from the hospital, she should eat the meals she had been longing for. Brittany had been on a bland diet lately, but the sight of those pork ribs was too much to resist. She grabbed her fork and knife and served Yuri a piece of fish. "Dad, you have to try this."

"Sure thing."

Brittany's amnesia seemed to have brought her closer to him.

Saskia, feeling wretched after her ordeal, returned to find Brittany savoring her meal, and her heart sank. They knew she couldn't stand the smell of the sweet and sour, and yet, here it was. It felt personal. "Saskia, feeling any better?" Yuri stood up.

Wiping her mouth, Saskia's pale face managed a weak smile. "Much better."

"You've been having a tough time with the morning sickness. Seen a doctor?" Holden knew that pregnancy could be a trial and was genuinely concerned for Saskia.

"Yes." Gabriel passed Saskia a glass of juice. "The doc says she's just got a sensitive constitution. Her morning sickness is more intense than most."

Saskia downed the juice, trying to wash away the bitterness lingering in her mouth.

Brittany had been pregnant before, but with her memories lost, she couldn't offer Saskia any relief.

The maids brought out Saskia's light meal, but her appetite was gone after a few bites.

Once everyone was full, Daniel was brought home.

He greeted everyone, then sidled up to Brittany. "Mommy."

Brittany lifted him into her lap, directing the staff to bring him some soup. "We made chicken soup today, your favorite. Have a little extra." Daniel sat down, his little spoon busy at work, eating with focus.

Saskia watched the mother and son, a flicker of spite crossing her eyes. She couldn't help herself. "Dad, did you ever find Mr. Salter?" Daniel's spoon froze in mid-air.

Yuri shot Saskia a warning glance.

"Saskia, you said you weren't feeling well, right? Let's head back," Gabriel said, hastily pulling her away, not daring to linger.

Once out of the Lynette Mansion and in the car, Gabriel's face hardened. "Have you lost your mind? Dad said not to bring up Isaac. Why did you?"

Saskia's eyes were wide with innocence. "I was just asking. And besides, Brittany is bound to remember sooner or later, right?"

Brittany should've been gone by now! If only those fools had done their job right!

Gabriel wasn't blind to Saskia's duplicity. His voice was a low growl. "She's the Lynette family's only daughter. Don't cross her, or we'll both pay the price." Saskia seemed unphased.

Seeing that his words went unheeded, Gabriel massaged his temples, reminding himself not to argue with a pregnant woman.

Gabriel composed himself and drove home.

Once they were gone, Holden found an excuse to head upstairs.

Brittany was all about Daniel. She hadn't caught Saskia's words or sensed the tension.

After Daniel had his fill, Brittany took him to his room. She pulled out a storybook, reading to him until his gaze was fixed on her, unwavering.

"What's the matter?" she asked, puzzled. "Something on your mind?"

Daniel clutched her hand. "Mommy, don't hang out with Saskia."

He was young, but not foolish. He knew Saskia was no good and didn't want his mom hurt.

Brittany was confused. "Why? Aren't we all family?"

"Not her," Daniel shook his head in denial. "She's not."
