Chapter 14

AMBER sighed as she puts down her phone, she just finished talking to Mister Lim on the phone. They

will meet tomorrow and she will give the two million as an advance. They agreed that they will meet on

the parking lot of a mall just near the bank. At first, he is hesitant to get the advance, what he wants is

for Amber to pay the full five million but she pleaded until he agreed.

She is about to take a bath when she heard a faint knock on the door, and it sprang open—as expected

it is his husband, Rafael.

“Why?” She asked.

“For you.” He said handing him a small paper bag. She grabbed it and frowned when she saw what’s

inside—it is the latest model of a phone.

“I don’t need it, Rafa.” She said and putting the phone’s box inside the paper bag and handed it to him.

“Besides, I already have my own phone.” She said while getting her phone on the bed and showed it to

him. “Same model.” She added, making Rafael surprised and curious.

“I thought…” Rafael sighed and didn’t continue what he is about to say, but she already can guess what

he is about to say. Well, he can’t blame her husband, when Rafa is around, she didn’t bother to bring

out her phone.

“It’s okay, I understand.” Amber smiled. “I can’t afford to sell this since it is the last present I got from

my parents.” Rafael nodded.

“Can I borrow your phone for a moment?” Rafael asked and she didn’t hesitate to give her phone. She

thought that maybe Rafa will check if it’s original or just an imitation. But she’s shocked that after a

“I already save my number; I also called my own number so that I can save yours.” Rafael said. “Now, I

don’t know what should I do with this.” He sighed and looked at the paper bag he was holding.

“Return it?” Amber answered with a question mark. “Ehm, I’m sorry, I should have told you that I

already have a phone.” She said.

“It’s okay, it is partly my fault for not asking.” Rafael said. “Maybe I can just sell it to Phil, he broke his

phone earlier.” He added. “I’ll go ahead and reach him before he can buy.” He added and exited her

room. Amber sighed and took a seat on her bed, she can sense it that Rafael is starting to doubt her

identity.

“I don’t know how you managed to get two million but I don’t really care, all what I want is to get my

money back.” Mister Lim said as he finished checking the bag full of bills. “You could just have

transferred it to my account, why bother withdrawing this huge amount?”

“It’s a long story.” Amber said.

“Well, I don’t really care.” Mister Lim said. “I expect the remaining three million in two months.”

“About that, can you give me nine months to pay back the remaining three?” Amber asked.

“five months is what we agreed on, Miss Santiago.” Mister Lim sternly said. “Now, use the methods you

did to gain two million in order to gain another three million.” He added and entered his car leaving her

in the parking lot. She let out a heavy sigh and went to the grocery inside the mall to buy chocolates.

While on her way home, she kept thinking a reason to cover-up the sudden withdrawal of that huge

amount of money, for sure, Rafael already knew about this.

The cab pulled over outside the gate of Rafael’s house; Tess, who is watering the plants on the yard

saw her and immediately approached her.

“Good morning, ma’am, I’ll help you with your things.” Tess politely said and grabbed the paper bags.

“Thank you, Tess.” She smiled as she paid her cab fare. “Thank you. Drive safely.” She politely said to

the driver who smiled and thanked her before going.

“Where should I put this, ma’am?” Tess asked.

“In my room, please. Thank you.” She answered. “Where are Nana Mildred and Nina?” She asked.

“They’re in the backyard, ma’am.” Tess answered.

“Go to the kitchen once you’re done placing that in my room.” Amber said. Tess nodded even if she’s

confused.

Amber went to the backyard and looked for Nana Mildred and Dina, she saw them talking while

cleaning.

“Nana, Dina.” She called them to get their attention. “Come inside for a moment.” She added. The two

looked at each other and followed her to the kitchen.

“Is there something you need, ma’am?” Dina asked.

“Ah, no.” She answered. “You’ve been working nonstop since this morning. Take a break and have

some cake.”

“Ma’am?” Dina uttered in surprise making her smile.

“Have a break first before continuing your work.” She said, and Tess came in just in time. “Tess, come

here and have some cake.” The three were reluctant at first so Amber put a slice on a plate and give it

to them. “Enjoy your snack. I will go to my room and fixed the things I bought.” She said and exited the

kitchen.

As soon as Amber reached her room, she locked the door and immediately finds the packing tape and

scissor she bought. She went inside the walk-in closet and saw the big box that she hasn’t open since

she stayed at Rafael’s house. She flinched when her phone rang but she ignored it and opened the

box, sorting the things inside. But her phone keeps on ringing and ringing, she grabbed her phone and

startled when she saw who is calling.

“Damn! Did he already find out?” Amber asked herself as she answers the call. “Hello, Rafa.”

“What took you too long to answer your damn phone?” Rafael asked in anger.

“I’m sorry, I was in the bathroom and didn’t hear my phone ringing.” She reasoned out.

“Is that so.” Rafael said, who seems to have calmed down. “Did you just get home?”

“Yes, and it seems that I bought too much chocolates.” She said as she looked at the five paper bags

full of chocolates.

“You could’ve just asked me to get you some chocolates.” Rafael said.

“I don’t want to bother you, since you have a meeting.” She said. “I was about to go home after

shopping but I suddenly craved for chocolates.” She reasoned out. “By the way, what time will you be

home?” She asked to divert the subject and to know how much time left she has.

“I’ll be home by seven, hon.” Rafael answered. “Why? Miss me already?” He teased, and amber

already know that he is grinning from ear to ear.

“Sort of.” She said. “Oh, and by the way, I’m wearing a red lingerie.” She seductively said and burst out

laughing when Rafael coughed on the other line. She didn’t know why she said that but her mouth

suddenly blurted it when she noticed the red lingerie given by her mom.

“Damn, woman!” Rafael cursed.

“I am just testing the things I bought, and I wanted to show it to you and ask for your opinion.” She said,

biting her lips to stop her laughing.

“Amber, stop it!” Rafael warned. “I might cancel all my appointments this afternoon just to ravish you!”

“Hey, I’m just kidding.” She said, but she can feel the heat in her body. “Behave there, okay? And do

your job.” She added.

“Just wait when I get home, hon.” Rafael warned. “Prepare yourself because I will make sure that

you’re not going to get a single damn sleep.”

“I’m actually wetting for you, hon.” She seductively said. Putting emphasis on the word wetting.

“Damn, woman!” Rafael cursed making her smile.

“Why, hon? Are you already hard?” She teased.

“For goodness’ sake, Amber! Stop it!” Rafael warned making her burst out laughing.

“Okay… Okay… I’m sorry.” She said. “I’ll see you later then.”

“Yeah.” Rafael said and ended the call.

Amber sighed and can’t believe that she said those things to Rafa, and she is actually looking forward

for him to get home. She let out another heavy sigh and started sorting her things. She is looking for

things that looks expensive enough to cover that two million.

The box contains albums, jewelries, her valuable clothes and a necklace that was their family’s

treasure. She brought out five jewelries that were presents from her mother—simple jewelries but

expensive. The jewelries were one of her option to sell in order to pay the debt but she can’t afford it.

She brought out some of her branded clothes, and lastly, the red lingerie that was given by her mother.

She still remembered what her mother told her when she received the gift.

“Mommy, I don’t wear stuff like that.” Amber said when she saw the red lingerie. “Why bother buying

this?”

“I bought that because this is my way of saying that me and your father wanted to have grandkids.” Her

mother smilingly said. “And this will what you should wear on your honeymoon.” Her mother giggled.

“Mommy! I still haven’t graduated and has no boyfriend.” She pouts. “Why are you bringing grandkids

this early?”

Amber bitterly smile as she remembered that memory.

“Mommy, you and dad will soon have a grandchild.” She said as she stares at their family photo. A tear

escapes her eyes. “It’s unfortunate that you’re not here to witness it.” She said in between her sobs.
