The Apple of My Eye

Chapter 1810 The Verbal Spat Between Nick And Leila.

Chapter 1810 The Verbal Spat Between Nick And Leila.

The whole night passed by, and, finally, Sheryl was able to accept the truth that Charles had fallen into

the sea. It was not her fault. However, it was still difficult for her, as there was no good news. Charles

has as yet not been found.

Sheryl's heart sank at the very thought of it. Her eyes were yearning for the sight of Charles, her ears

keen to hear a word about him being safe and sound. As a result of continuous overthinking, she had a

throbbing headache.

"I am fine. You don't have to worry about me!" Sheryl said in a faint voice as she gave Nick a wan

smile. She was aware of Nick's concern for her, so she tried to dispel it.

At the same time, Leila stomped out of the other room. She had been waiting all night to see justice

being served. She was seething in rage, and the only thing that could give her some solace was the

sight of Sheryl being behind bars.

But what did she see when she came out? Sheryl was walking out of the interrogation room! The police

officer set Sheryl free! 'How does the police force work these days?' she thought as resentment and

disgust reached its zenith in her heart.

Leila plodded angrily toward Sheryl and screeched at the police officer, "Are you going to release this

woman? Why?"

"We have checked the surveillance camera, and there is no evidence that she has anything to do with

the victim falling overboard. It was an accident, and she has been proven innocent. Besides, she is the

victim's wife. Out of respect, we have to let her go now," the policeman explained politely, though

Leila's sudden approach with her rude questions did not fail to astonish him. The police officer could

not help being a little annoyed with Leila. He failed to understand where her anger came from. Yet, he

tried to deal with her as diplomatically as possible.

He turned towards Leila and replied with a polite smile, "Mrs. Xia, thanks for your cooperation, as well

as your precious time!"

"What? Are you kidding me? Is this how you perform your duty? I want to speak to your senior. Now!

The victim is my boyfriend! And Sheryl is no longer his legitimate wife. They are busy divorcing each

other. This wicked woman pushed my boyfriend in the sea. I can prove it!" Leila was fuming. She

showed her determination. She was not going to leave until she saw Sheryl behind bars.

"Well, then you are free to do whatever you like. I have just finished my case!" The policeman declined

to argue with Leila. He handed Leila over to one of his juniors.

Leila was not a fool either. After she failed to get the desired attention from the police, she decided to

deal with Sheryl at a personal level. She turned towards the door and spotted Sheryl, who was about to

leave the police station. Without wasting a single moment, Leila rushed to chase her.

"Sheryl! Stop! I won't let you go like this."

Nick was shocked to hear Leila's loud voice as he stood outside the door, waiting for Sheryl to walk out.

A frown appeared on his face as he marked Leila's aggressive demeanor.

'Leila could not show a little modesty, even in the police station!' Nick thought with astonishment.

"What? What do you want to do?" Nick shouted immediately in a warning tone. He pushed Sheryl

behind his back and cast Leila a menacing look.

Leila pointed at Sheryl and accused her, saying, "Sheryl, how could you be so vicious to your ex-

husband? Charles didn't agree to give you a formal divorce, so you pushed him into the sea! Now he is

missing, and if he continues to be like this for a while, the legal divorce procedure will automatically

come into force, regardless of his permission. Don't think you can fool me! You are such a wicked and

calculating woman! You are going to pay for this!"

Leila hurled blame on Sheryl with full conviction.

"Oh! Shut the fuck up, Leila! How could you have the nerve to play the innocent? If it weren't for your

interference, Sheryl and Charles wouldn't have come to this situation. You broke their marriage, being

his mistress. Now you are blaming Sheryl?"

Nick could not believe that anybody could stoop down to this level until he saw Leila. How shameless

of her! She even had the guts to accuse Sheryl with so much confidence without showing a single trace

of guilt for ruining Charles and Sheryl's marriage. Where did her audacity come from?

"Who are you? It is none of your business! There is no place for you to speak!" Leila tried to sideline

Nick. Noticing that he was trying to stand up for Sheryl, she got irritated. She tried her best to make

sure that he backed off. However, much to her resentment, that was not to be.

"Leila, don't humiliate yourself any further! Look at your own identity, before you make your claims! You

are the outsider here. You should stay out of this business!" Anger started to fray at Nick's heart. Had it

not been for the police station, Nick would have lost his cool completely, and he would have taken the

recourse to treat Leila with violence.

"You dare talk to me like that! You brainless and useless bastard! I will make you disappear from this

world!" Leila spat out with an infuriated glare.

From Leila's perspective, Sheryl was the one who was contriving and calculating. It must have been

Sheryl's idea to postpone the divorce procedure on purpose to sabotage Leila's getting together with Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.

Charles.

Leila was disgusted with Sheryl hovering over her head like a ghost, making it difficult for her to

develop a relationship with Charles. How could she not be angry and brooding towards Sheryl? And

yet, when Leila found a chance to teach Sheryl a lesson, Nick had barged in to prevent her from doing

that as well.

"Really? How are you going to make it happen?" Nick asked and looked at Leila in disdain, completely

unfazed by Leila's threats.

"That is none of your business. All I want to say is that you'd better stay away from this fight!" Leila was

a little intimidated by Nick's fierce look. Her voice came down, but she didn't want to show any sign of

weakness.

"Well, I am in it now! And I am just wondering what you are going to do with me!" Nick also lowered his

voice and spoke in a stern tone. He didn't want to make it too loud and draw the attention of the police.

They were still very close to the police station.

"You dare…"

"Listen! Leila, I am telling you very clearly. You might not be able to see beyond yourself. But I am not

like Sheryl. She is kind to anyone, but I am not like that! Sheryl asked me not to argue with you

because she worried that I would just end up getting shit on myself! Do you think we are all afraid of

you? Have some shame on yourself! Who do you think you are? Do you think Charles loves you? Then

why didn't he marry you? Look at you now; you are just a poor mistress! And yet you are such a

shameless woman!"

Nick was a man of few words. He never got into an argument with anyone no matter what. But Leila

was so brash and always picked at Sheryl that he could not help it. He was so disgusted with Leila's

behavior, that he gave her a piece of his mind.

He had a lot of resentment for Leila in his heart. Today, he just lost his cool and spat his words out right

in her face.

"If Sheryl loves Charles as much as you claim, she wouldn't have pushed Charles into the sea!" Leila

continued to retort.

"Really? If Sheryl had committed that kind of crime, then why would the police release her? So watch

your remarks! Sheryl and I have the right to sue you over your slanderous remarks! There are many

surveillance cameras around. I believe what you have said has been recorded. If I use it against you in

the court, you will be doomed!" Nick was getting tired of Leila's incessant verbal abuse and attacks. He

thought threatening her would make her stop.

All this while, as Nick and Leila continued their verbal spat, Sheryl stood beside Nick in silence. She

had neither the energy nor the discretion to deal with Leila.

Nick was aware of Sheryl's mental condition. He knew how badly Sheryl needed to get some rest. He

wanted to take Sheryl to the hotel as soon as possible. But Leila was just not ready to rest her case. It

was becoming increasingly difficult to get rid of her.

"I swear to God; I saw her do that to my boyfriend. Sheryl did that! She pushed Charles into the sea!"

Leila claimed with confidence as if she was telling the truth.

"Really? Do you dare to swear? If you caught Sheryl pushing Charles overboard, can you tell me how

exactly she did it? I need your detailed information."

Nick knew if the police had evidence, they wouldn't have let Sheryl go that easily. Now that Sheryl was

allowed to go, that meant that Sheryl was clear and innocent.

Besides, even the surveillance camera was unable to catch anything. Then how could Leila possibly

make such claims? How could she insist that Sheryl pushed Charles?

In Nick's eyes, Leila's statement made no sense. He knew that she was lying. At that moment, the

disdain for her in his heart grew stronger and stronger.

Some people were like that. They were so full of lies that they even lied to themselves sometimes.

"Of course, I…" Leila choked for a moment.

"Enough! You just can't. Look, Leila, today I want to warn you, once and for all! You are the

troublemaker! You are the one who brought a mess into our lives, and made all of us miserable! And

for this whole thing, you are the one who should be held accountable! Charles is missing because of

you. That Sheryl is in this state is also because of you! So you think everyone can be picked on as

easily as you think? But let me tell you clearly that we are not going to be your victim so easily! You'd

better not irritate me! If you do, I swear I will put you on your goddamn back!" Finishing his words, Nick

shot Leila another menacing stare, before he took Sheryl away from the place.

Watching their receding figures, Leila bit her lips. Her eyes were burning with anger and hatred. She

hated the sight of Sheryl walking away like a victor. She resented that she could do nothing since Nick

was there to support Sheryl.

With a furious sigh, she turned in the opposite direction and headed toward the hotel.
