Chapter 6: Racing heart
Rowan turned around to look at the elders, his expression was defiant, “Take this woman! She’s not my Gwen!”
Xavier stepped forward, “why do you think so if I may ask.”
Rowan smirked and looked back at Bonnie, ” She’s fatter and she’s definitely not Gwen. Gwen talks a lot but she doesn’t, she’s too curt. And her words seem to be attacking each other.”
Xavier scoffed and walked to Bonnie. His hands wrapped around her, pulling her close to him. Bonnie stiffed, as heat rushed inside her at the closeness.
“If she’s fatter, doesn’t that mean I’m taking very good care of her?” He smiled and looked at Bonnie, ” Aren’t I?”C0pyright © 2024 Nôv)(elDrama.Org.
Bonnie swallowed hard on the large lump that had suddenly formed in her throat, ” I received lots of attention. I’m expected to get fat, isn’t that good?”
” Alpha Rowan, we want you to access this situation very well. Why will you think Gwen isn’t Gwen?” Marcus said, stepping forward.
Philip sighed, ” I beg you to take a great measure of consideration before concluding!”
Xavier whipped his head towards him, shocked at his utteration. For once, Xavier was forced to hold his anger in check. He would have loved to batter his face at that moment.
“Please,” Augustine interceded, “Please, take it easy.”
Bonnie went quiet. At first, what Xavier saw was her dejected body, her head cast downward. Then, a soft sobs. It slowly developed into a cry of anguish.
And that was when it hit Xavier! Gwen loves to laugh a lot but she was easily made to cry. She always tries to act strong in front of everyone. And so, Xavier had only been the one to see her in that state. And well, his cousin too.
Alpha Rowan knows a lot about Gwen. It was undoubtedly true that she would hide that little fact of her from him.
“I don’t know what you saw but,” Bonnie looked up at Xavier, “Is this another way to go around the settlement you had with Xavier?”
Xavier stiffed beside her, his mind in a daze. How did she know about the deep resentment?
“You know how much I love him,” she turned to Rowan dramatically, “Why will you think I’m not your cousin? Why?” She cried harder.
Xavier clenched his teeth. He hated to see Gwen cry. It was one of his weaknesses.
As Bonnie made to walk away. Xavier held her suddenly, stopping her and he whirled her around to face him. He pulled her so close to his chest as if he was afraid of anyone taking her away. Or doing it again.
Bonnie snuggled close to him, putting her arms around him while she continued to sob, light one now.
Rowan took his steps towards her slowly and touched her, “Gwen!”
Bonnie jerked free from Xavier’s hold. Xavier let her turn to look at Rowan but his height was still behind her as if guarding her.
“I’m sorry for not being able to trust you,” his voice has grown soft and clear of doubt.
Bonnie stared for a while before running out of the hall. Elixir followed quickly.
Xavier sighed and looked at Rowan, “You should have facts before you make claims,” he turned around and followed after her.
Bonnie walked in quickly and stopped at the door to look at Elixir, “I want you to find a way to make me see them! I won’t let your absence be noticeable during the dinner.”
Elixir nodded briefly, ” I will do that quickly.*
Bonnie turned around slowly, she would look for a way no matter what to make sure her parents are cleared of all the charges laid before them.
It doesn’t matter how she takes it. She wouldn’t lay still because she knew Xavier wouldn’t spare her after she had fulfilled the mission.
The moment she had made Rowan see it was really Gwen, Xavier wouldn’t hesitate to vent his anger on her.
So, it doesn’t matter if she falls into danger while trying to prove her parent’s innocence. She would do anything and everything.
Bonnie walked to the bed as Elixir walked out.
Something told Bonnie the killer had something to do with Xavier’s court. She saw them today, how eager they all were. One of them was responsible, Bonnie couldn’t help but think.
If only, she could get their handwriting. But if it was one of them, then they wouldn’t be the one to write the note. Someone close to them would have.
Someone close, like a personal guard. She should check out for them.
The door opened again and Bonnie wondered why Elixir was back so quickly. She looked back and gasped softly when she saw Xavier emerged.
There was something about the Alpha that seems to take her senses away even when she needed it to proffer a solution.
“You did great Bonnie,” he said with so much authority. His presence has suddenly made the room grow smaller.
Xavier was a man of physique, there was no doubting. But there was also something about him that seems to install fear wherever he went.
Bonnie knew that Rowan wouldn’t be able to stand against him even in war. So, she wondered what he was so scared about. Why was he so scared to go to war?
Bonnie swallowed harder as she watched him walk near. Her hand grip the bedsheet tightly as if to rip it. She could still feel their closeness as if they were still together.
As if sensing her hesitation, Xavier stopped suddenly and smile. And that was when Bonnie saw the smile behind the dark frown. The smile that has suddenly been forced to stay in exile.
Bonnie would never think Xavier would ever smile for her, he seemed to hate her so much but he was smiling now.
Bonnie’s heart raced as she stared at the bright smile on his face. Xavier was an epitome of handsomeness. Even the smile made him look unique and Bonnie prayed silently that he continued smiling.
“You did great!” He said finally. He wasn’t smiling now but the face was light and the smile could be vivid underneath.
Bonnie was glad she did so far.
“Now, enough of the act. You should see and speak with your cousin,” he said and offered out his hand.
Bonnie reached for it quickly. When their hands touched, she felt a rush surge of adrenaline.
She looked up at Xavier and wondered what was wrong with her. Why does her heart beat so fast?
For a moment, Xavier’s face transform back to the dark frown she was used to. And Bonnie had to wonder if he saw it. If he saw how her heart was racing for him.
