She hastily wiped her tears away with the back of her hand and turned to face the intruder. It was Nolan.
He noticed the redness of her eyes and the sadness that was etched across her face, and his expression quickly turned to concern. “Hey, are you okay?” he asked, stepping closer to her.NôvelDrama.Org © 2024.
Alexa shook her head in response, unable to find the words to express her emotions. She took a few deep breaths, hoping to calm herself down, but the tears kept flowing.
Nolan, sensing her need for comfort, moved to sit beside her on the bed. “You don’t have to talk if you don’t want to,” he said gently, placing a hand on her back. “Just know that I’m here for you.”
Alexa was grateful for Nolan’s presence but resented his assumption that he knew what she needed. She abruptly stood up, causing Nolan to look up at her in confusion.
“I just want some space, Nolan,” she said, her voice shaking slightly. “I can’t talk about it right now.”
Nolan stood up too and blocked her way to the door. “I’m not leaving you alone like this,” he said firmly. “You need someone to be here for you, even if it’s just to sit in silence.”
Alexa felt anger boil inside her at Nolan’s stubbornness. “You don’t know what I need,” she yelled, pushing past him to grab her phone from the bedside table. “Just because you have feelings for me doesn’t mean you know everything about my life!”
Nolan remained unfazed by her outburst. “I don’t need to know everything,” he replied calmly. “I just need to know that you’re okay. And right now, you’re not.”
Alexa’s hands shook as she typed a message on her phone. “You’re always assuming things,” she continued, her voice rising in frustration. “You confessed to me out of nowhere, and yet all you’ve ever done is play with my feelings.”
Nolan looked taken aback by her accusations. “That’s not true,” he protested. “I’ve always cared about you, Alexa.”
“Then why did you wait until now to tell me how you really felt?” Alexa shot back, her eyes blazing with anger. “It’s because you knew I was vulnerable, isn’t it? Because you thought you had a chance.”
Nolan hung his head, unable to refute her claims. “I’m sorry,” he finally said after a long silence. “I shouldn’t have done that.”
Alexa sighed heavily, feeling some of the tension leave her body. “I just need some time to myself right now,” she said, looking at him with tired eyes. “Maybe we can talk about this another time.”
Nolan nodded in agreement. “Whenever you’re ready,” he said gently, moving aside to let her through.
Alexa walked out of the room, feeling emotionally drained but grateful for Nolan’s support. She knew he meant well, but sometimes it felt like he was overstepping his boundaries. Maybe one day she would be able to fully explain to him how she felt, but for now, she just needed space to sort out her own thoughts and feelings.
