Chapter 1038 Falling Out

Justin's body trembled considerably.

He had allowed his emotions to get the better of him a moment ago, and now, hearing Artemis' assessment, he realized he had acted

impulsively.

Approaching Veronique right now would only put her in a precarious situation.

He was, after all, the groom of the grand wedding. If he were to engage with another woman on his wedding day, it would undoubtedly draw

intense public criticism.

His personal reputation didn't concern him, but he couldn't allow Veronique to suffer because of him.

Furthermore, Veronique was believed to be “dead” at this moment. Until he found the right opportunity for her to re-emerge into the world, he

couldn't expose her to the public eye.

The power of public opinion was formidable. The Revelle family had declared Veronique dead to the world.

If she were to resurface, she would face endless scrutiny and ridicule. Those who had initially sympathized with her would come to believe

she was manipulating their emotions.

Once the public began to make a fuss, it might be challenging for her to maintain her standing in Dellmoor.

“So, what should I do now? I promised Veronique to resolve this love triangle, but I never anticipated Scarlett's cunning tactics. I have no

choice but to compromise. Today's wedding banquet was broadcast live throughout the city, orchestrated by Scarlett with my consent.

Veronique probably learned about it immediately. If I do nothing, she will be left with a misunderstanding. Her health hasn't fully recovered

yet. If there's more turmoil, I fear that she'd—”

“Veronique already knows,” Bailey interjected. “She received a message from the kidnapper while Scarlett was walking the red carpet. There

are things I'd rather not have told you, but I must. Veronique is asking you to sacrifice yourself to protect Zephyr.”

Stumbling backward a few steps, Justin asked with a trembling voice, “Is she... really willing to sacrifice me to protect Zephyr?”

Bailey glared at him, grinding her teeth as she scolded him fiercely, “She's Zephyr's mother. Shouldn't she make that choice? You're usually a

composed person, so why do you falter at critical moments? Is this what you should be focusing on? No, it's not. I want to make it clear that

Veronique understands your situation, but when a child is in danger, your first instinct is to protect that child. This also demonstrates her

understanding and willingness not to hold you responsible for this choice. You don't need to feel guilty, and you don't need to lose your

composure, understand?” Belonging © NôvelDram/a.Org.

Justin understood. As long as Veronique didn't misconstrue his actions and wasn't angry with him, he could regain his composure and manage

the situation. “I understand. I won't seek out Veronique. I'll return to the banquet hall and try to hold Scarlett back.”

Bailey's expression softened slightly, and she nodded. “Yes, go back to the banquet hall and stall Scarlett. As for Zephyr, you don't need to

worry. Artemis and I are on our way to rescue him. If we can't save him, your presence won't make a difference.”

Taking a deep breath, Justin managed to suppress his emotional turmoil. He bowed to the two of them. “I'm relying on both of you.”

Artemis huffed, “And while you're at it, keep Raiden in check. Don't let him get in our way or annoy me.”

As soon as he finished speaking, he took Bailey's hand and headed for the elevator.

Justin turned slowly, his eyes fixed on the entrance to the banquet hall. Even if he couldn't bring Scarlett down today, he wouldn't make her

life easy.

Inside the bride's lounge, Scarlett, assisted by Olivia, changed out of her wedding gown and into a traditional Chanaean dress, which would be

suitable for the wedding banquet that followed the ceremony.

Despite her status as the bride, Scarlett was well aware that she couldn't escape her responsibilities as the host of this grand event, though she

need not participate in drinking.

“Lettie, while your mother is still in Hallsbay, when will you find some time to discuss the Campbell family's affairs with her? Your aunt came

to see me again tonight. She mentioned that your uncle's trial is scheduled to begin in a few days, and whether he's acquitted or convicted

largely depends on the Fletcher family's influence. You should settle this promptly,” Olivia said.

Scarlett's fingers tightened around the comb, and a simmering anger began to rise within her.

In recent times, she had grown accustomed to asserting her authority in front of Olivia, so even in this situation, she had no intention of

showing the older woman a friendly face.

“Today is a day of great joy for me; can't you avoid being a wet blanket? Having to deal with a prisoner's life or death on my wedding day is

extremely inauspicious.”

Olivia was momentarily taken aback, but her expression quickly turned cold. In a deep voice, she warned, “Scarlett, don't forget that I'm

assisting you only because you are still of use to me. If you can't clear my family's name and protect the Campbell family, I won't make your

life easy.”

With a sharp thud, Scarlett slammed the comb onto the dressing table in a fit of anger. “Are you threatening me? Are you implying that if I

can't clear your family's name, you'll cast me out of the Xuereb family?”

Olivia's face transformed instantly, and she fixed a cold stare on Scarlett as she said, “Are you planning to backtrack on your promises? The

wedding banquet hasn't even started yet. If you truly want to burn bridges, I'm not afraid of a showdown. Without my support, I'm afraid this

wedding banquet could come to an abrupt end.”

Scarlett knew better than to provoke this unpredictable woman. Olivia is capable of abandoning her own husband and son for the sake of her

maternal family's interests. Can such a person truly be reasoned with? If she's provoked at this moment, it might ruin the entire wedding

banquet.

Now that the wedding ceremony had concluded, Scarlett certainly did not want any disruptions at the upcoming reception to undo all the

meticulous planning.

“Mom, I was just joking with you; why are you taking it so seriously? Saving Uncle Silas is just a matter of a few words. I just need to inform

my mom. You've helped me so much; how could I possibly abandon you after benefiting from your assistance? That would be ungrateful.

Don't worry; I'll discuss this with my mom tomorrow,” Scarlett reassured Olivia.

Olivia's expression brightened slightly, and she held Scarlett's wrist firmly. Her smile didn't reach her eyes as she responded, “Then I'll be

eagerly awaiting your good news.”

After departing from Century Hotel, Bailey went to offer consolation to Veronique at the Revelle residence, while Artemis returned to the

Luther family to coordinate the search for Zephyr.

The wedding banquet proceeded as scheduled, with only a select few individuals privy to Zephyr's disappearance. The outside world remained

blissfully unaware of the unfolding drama.

Upon Bailey's arrival at the Revelle residence, Bill and Yvonne had already made their way there.

Bill was fuming, expressing his anger by venting it on anything within his reach in the living room. “That scoundrel actually went ahead and

married the Fletcher family's daughter. What does he think of my daughter? A mere plaything to be summoned and dismissed at his

convenience? It's infuriating, absolutely infuriating.”

Yvonne, Veronique's sister, attempted to console their father, saying, “Justin doesn't appear to be the type to act ungratefully. There may be

underlying circumstances at play here. Dad, please refrain from getting too angry at this stage. Let's await a thorough investigation or a clear

explanation from Justin. We can draw conclusions then; there's no need to rush.”

Bill, however, was boiling with anger, exclaiming, “What possible underlying circumstances could there be? Can we entertain the idea that

someone had a weapon to his throat, forcing him into marriage?”

“Well...” Yvonne hesitated, unable to alleviate her father's anger, and turned to Veronique, saying, “Vero, you've been exceptionally quiet since

this incident occurred. Do you know something? If so, please share it for Dad's peace of mind. He's extremely agitated; we wouldn't want it to

affect his health.”

Bill immediately shifted his focus to Veronique, demanding, “What on earth is that scoundrel hinting at?”
