Chapter 70
Chapter 70
The alarm clock rang persistently, gradually rousing her from her slumber until she eventually heard it.
Glancing at her phone, she saw it was nine in the morning, thankfully no longer four or five in the
afternoon
YH still had time before starting work at 10am.
After waking up and washing her face, she grabbed her bag and set off for the office.
Recalling Kelly’s request from yesterday to come over and hand over the work, she went directly to the
top floor, bypassing
the office.
“Sister Kelly, I’m here to deliver the work.” Scarlett knocked on the door of Kelly’s office.
“Come in,” Kelly said, her face brightening as she spotted her.
Scarlett walked to Kelly’s desk and asked politely, “Sister Kelly, Mia doesn’t seem keen to take over my Content from NôvelDr(a)ma.Org.
role. Do you know who I should pass my tasks on to?”
Kelly thought of what Scarlee had told her yesterday and said with some embarrassment, “Scarlett,
you’ve been here for five years. You can’t just up and leave your job. Can you stay until I find someone
suitable to take your place?”
The president had so many assistants that it was fine to just assign them to anyone; however, she had
to wait until she found a suitable person to take their place.
Scarlett frowned and asked, “Didn’t you send me a message yesterday morning asking me to give you
my work? Why did you change your mind so quickly?”
Realizing Scarlett was not easily deceived, Kelly spoke honestly, “Yesterday morning, Miss Napier gave
the go-ahead for your resignation, so I sent you a message asking you to hand in your work. But then,
shortly after, Miss Napier changed her mind and said she didn’t give her okay for your resignation.”
Scarlett furrowed her brows and asked coldly. “Why?”
Kelly shrugged. “I haven’t got a hint. If you’re after the real story, go ask Miss Napier. I’m just following
orders.”
Scarlett’s face gradually grew darker as she came to the realization that the issue was still hers, not
Kelly’s.
Without saying anything further to Kelly, she spun on her heel and marched directly to Scarlee’s
presidential office.
Seated in the vast office, Scarlee gently inquired if the other party had already had their breakfast.
Scarlett didn’t need to strain her ears to recognize the person she was talking to.
She paused briefly, then tapped on the door, interrupting their conversation.
Upon spotting her, Scarlee quickly hung up the phone and asked, ‘Scarlett, what brings you here?”
Scarlett was straightforward and inquired, “Miss Napier, didn’t you promise to help me resign when you
came back? Why haven’t you given the green light yet?”
Scarlee glanced at her phone and said testily. “Mia’s been slighted. She’s gathered a group and told
everyone to reject your offer. You mentioned you had a lot of knowledge about your associates. You
can’t just overlook it. Once you’ve located them, you can quit.”
She was the president of a group, yet she couldn’t seem to find them. It was clear that she was
purposely stalling her search.
Scarlee’s making things difficult for her, an assistant, and she couldn’t understand why.
Her face grew solemn, yet she still spoke politely, “Miss Napier, I have an urgent matter and I’m in a
hurry to leave my office. Could you kindly give your consent?”
“Is it appropriate for you to deem this an urgent matter?” Scarlee inquired.
Scarlett was about to tell her she was terminally ill and had no energy to work, but upon seeing disdain
in her eyes, she held back and kept quiet.
Seeing her silent, Scarlee smiled slightly. “I couldn’t believe it when Mia said that you wanted to get
hitched with well-to-do and influential family. I never thought you’d jump into someone else’s arms just
to meet Mr. Gatsby yesterday. It looks like you’re really intent on marrying into a wealthy and powerful
family. It’s just that…”
She deliberately paused for a moment and looked Scarlett up and down with a pair of mocking phoenix
eyes. “Scarlett, you are indeed very attractive, but it’s not a simple task to marry into a wealthy family.”
