Chapter 124
"Why does Trevor like you?"
Jessica felt somewhat helpless when she heard the question.
"Why did Trevor like me? Shouldn't he be questioning Trevor directly?" she mused.
Jessica had only been acquainted with Trevor for a brief period of time with her current identity. She wasn't even sure if Trevor truly liked her. Perhaps the latter had other intentions.
"I'm not too sure myself. I've just returned from overseas and happened to enter Mr. Gulliford's company. As for why he's interested in me, I truly have no idea."
Although Jessica was unwilling, she had to watch her words as she was speaking to Old Mr. Gulliford. This content © 2024 NôvelDrama.Org.
The elderly man appeared to be amicable and kind on the surface, but he would not hesitate to use dirty methods.
According to Samantha, the old man was willing to kill his own daughter-in-law. Was there anything that
he would not do? The consequences were unimaginable.
Some people lived their entire lives for honor.
"Judging from your words, are you not interested in him?
Old Mr. Gulliford thumped the cane in his hand. Following that, he set it down by the side. From the looks of it, he planned on settling down for some time.
"It would be a lie to say that I'm completely uninterested in Mr. Gulliford. However, a man like him and someone like me, we're not suited for each other. A sparrow simply does not attempt to approach a phoenix. I know not to cross a line," Jessica replied softly. She raised her eyes and looked at Old Mr.
Gulliford. There was no hint of evasiveness in her eyes at all.
"Don't you wish to become a phoenix yourself?" Astonishment filled Old Mr. Gulliford's dark eyes. The girl intrigued him.
Jessica shook her head. "I'm sure you have seen many worldly things. However, there are people who are simply content with being unremarkable
sparrows. Such people do not wish to attract attention."
A phoenix? Jessica was like a phoenix once. She was formerly Horington's top socialite. Her position was one that was glittering and high up.
However, it only served to make her fall further as she plunged down from vast heights.
Why would she want to return to that sort of life? It was best to stay insignificant.
"All right. Name a price. I won't quibble over it."
"The price isn't the issue. I need your help so I can break free from Mr. Gulliford. Currently, I don't have anyone backing me. Without help, I am unable to leave Mr. Gulliford.
Jessica was fully self-aware of the
situation that she was in. It was a piece of cake for Trevor to find her if he put his mind to it. Thus, she requested Old Mr. Gulliford give her 15 million dollars.
"Clever girl. No wonder he likes you."
Old Mr. Gulliford lifted his cane. Initially, he had assumed that it would be a difficult discussion. He
did not expect it to proceed so smoothly.
"Goodbye. I won't be seeing you out as I am injured," Jessica said with a smile. She was exhilarated at the thought of finally being able to break free from a control freak like Trevor. "It's all right."
Old Mr. Gulliford turned around to leave. Yolanda, who had been hiding in the kitchen, finally mustered the courage to come out after the former had shut the door behind him. "What happened? What did you discuss?" Yolanda asked. Her interest was piqued when she saw Jessica chuckling.
"He's afraid that I would become his
that
granddaughterin-law. I too, am
afraid of becoming his
granddaughter-in-law," Jessica
replied as she idly riffled through a book she grabbed from nearby.
"I truly don't understand the way you think. Since you've changed your identity, you are no longer Jessica Jackson, but Jessica Lockett. Trevor has no idea who you are. In fact, the Gulliford family and everyone else in Horington doesn't know who you O you are Why don't you use the
opportunity to regain your place by Trevor's side and use him to get back the Queen family?" Yolanda detailed the plan in her mind with a treacherous smile.
Yolanda continued, "As long as Trever is there, he will pave the road for your revenge. Why would you let such a golden opportunity slip through your fingers? How silly." Jessica continued to flip through the book in her hand without replying. Yolanda had no idea what she had gone through.
Perhaps it was more accurate to say that no one knew. Apart from herself, no one else knew what she had endured.
