Chapter 3529 The Answers You Seek
Shadowbeard, along with his subordinates, personally escorted Nathan out of the city.
On the way, Colin seemed tense and on guard. Unbeknownst to him, sweat had already soaked his entire body.
Nathan, on the other hand, remained calm as ever, as if he didn't sense the murderous aura emanating from the vampires that were sending him off. Before they knew it, they had already arrived at the city gate.
Nathan halted in his tracks.
Colin tightened his grip on the hilt of his battle sword, ready to spring into action at any moment.
The primordial vampires behind Shadowbeard were all ready to launch an attack, too.
Nathan looked at Shadowbeard while the latter looked back at him.
The atmosphere was tense as if a battle was on the verge of breaking out.
Nathan said casually, "By the way, I just remembered something. I wonder if I could ask you a question."
Shadowbeard chuckled, "Go ahead, Mr. Cross."
Nathan questioned, "How come I've never heard of your existence before? In fact, I've never even heard of the term 'primordial vampire.' To my knowledge, vampires didn't exist on Earth. They came from the Divine Realm. You call yourselves the primordial vampires Could it be that you're from the Divine Realm?"
Facing Nathan, who was subtly sounding them out, Shadowbeard remained calm as ever. The expressions of his subordinates, on the other hand, changed drastically.
Shadowbeard laughed. "The world is vast. You couldn't have gone everywhere. Life is full of surprises, and you couldn't have heard everything, either. It's normal that you don't know about us." His response was vague and noncommittal.
Nathan knew that Shadowbeard was sly and wouldn't easily spill the beans, but he managed to glean some clues from the subtle changes in the expressions of the surrounding vampires.
Even if they weren't from the Divine Realm, it was highly probable that they shared intricate connections with it.
Knowing he wouldn't get any answers, Nathan planned to secretly investigate further when he returned.
And so, without another word, he prepared to turn around and leave.
"Wait a moment!" Shadowbeard called out.
Both Nathan and Colin abruptly halted, turning back to look at Shadowbeard and the others.
They both thought that Shadowbeard was about to make a move.
To their surprise, Shadowbeard had no intention of doing so.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
With a mysterious smile on his face, he said to Nathan, "Nathan Cross, I know you have many questions in your heart. If you want answers, you won't get any from me. You could try asking the Curia. Quite a few
mysterious powerhouses have emerged there recently, too. If you're lucky, you might be able to get some information from Pope Eugene."
The Curia has a lot of mysterious elites, too?
Nathan suddenly remembered that Colin had once mentioned to him that both the vampire clan and the Curia had gained many elites that came out of nowhere recently.
He had already encountered the elites of the vampire clan, such as Shadowbeard and company.
What kind of mysterious powerhouses have the Curia gained?
The Curia, an organization established under the support of the Gods, had intricate connections with the Divine Realm.
Are the Gods the ones instigating this new round of conflict between the vampires and the Curia?
A glint of shock flashed past Nathan's eyes, and it didn't go unnoticed by Shadowbeard. Knowing that he had achieved his goal, Shadowbeard didn't say anything further. Nathan looked at Shadowbeard skeptically, harboring doubts, before leaving with Colin.
Shadowbeard didn't order his subordinates to make a move even after Nathan left.
As Nathan's figure slowly vanished from their line of sight, Sinistral grew anxious and urged, "Mr. Shadowbeard, Nathan will escape if we don't make our move soon."
Shadowbeard smiled. "Make our move? Why?"
Sinistral looked bewildered. "Mr.
Shadowbeard, it's clear that Nathan
is against us. He's asking Ms. Hepburn to restrain our clan, forbidding us from killing and preventing us from expanding. He's clearly a stumbling block for us.
Didn't you just say you weus.
going to
send him off and kill him?"
Shadowbeard chuckled. "His strength is beyond what you can imagine. We still might not be able to stop him even if we all join forces. Besides, he's not human. He's a vampire. Why should I kill him?" The vampire elites were all stunned.
Sinistral said nervously, "But he is against us. He even forbids us from killing and expanding..."
Shadowbeard grinned. "He is Ms. Hepburn's crush, and she listens to him. He dealt with our clan, thinking he could do the same with the Curia and quell this impending war. Little does he realize that both the vampires and the Curia are mere pawns in the intricate game orchestrated by the Gods. With the Gods being puppeteers behind the scenes, he alone can't possibly stop this war. He wants it to end, but has he asked for the Gods' approval?"
Sinistral and the others fell silent upon hearing that.
He's right. It's the Gods who want us vampires to fight with the Curia. It's impossible for Nathan to prevent it. If he continues to interfere like this, the Gods will be the first to pick on him.
In a low voice, Sinistral said, "Mr. Shadowbeard I now understand why you won't take action against Nathan. If Nathan continues investigating, Morgon will be upset. They might even end up fighting if Morgon messes with Nathan, and that's beneficial to us!" Shadowbeard smiled and said, "It's good that you understand."
