Vera’s face was pale, and she only removed her face mask after entering the library and seeing Skylar.
Fortunately, there weren’t many people in the library today, and no one paid attention to what others were doing.
The statue wasn’t large and had been carried in Vera’s backpack.
It was a smiling statue, but there were some strange markings on its hands and stomach, so Skylar examined it closely.
As she stared intently at the statue without speaking, Vera grew anxious. “Is something wrong?” she asked.
She had been told that the cursed statue wasn’t that dangerous, only causing some bad luck. But now, seeing Skylar’s serious expression, she felt uneasy.
“There is indeed something unusual. The photo you sent me didn’t capture the patterns on its feet,” Skylar said while carefully inspecting the intricate markings on the feet. It was different from those on its stomach and hands.
The markings on the feet were eerie, like some kind of symbol, twisted and overlapping.
‘‘I didn’t notice that,” Vera said as she followed Skylar’s gaze to the faint patterns. The strange markings made her heart race uncontrollably.
“Let me take another look,” Skylar said, still unable to fully understand the statue’s significance.
The craftsmanship was rough, likely from the Wiktorian era. When she first touched it, she didn’t sense anything harmful, which led her to conclude that it wasn’t dangerous.
But now, reconsidering Vera’s recent drastic personality changes, it seemed the statue might be influencing her.
Vera’s nerves were on edge. Skylar suddenly asked while examining the statue, “Did Molly ever mention who the original owner of this statue or ring was?”
“No. I asked her before, but she only said it belonged to a highly respected elder whom she rarely met. By the way, I think today’s car accident was strange. The car didn’t seem to have accidentally hit her–it felt intentional. Even if the driver was drunk, they should’ve tried to brake, right? But the driver kept pressing the accelerator until they hit Molly.” Vera found herself unexpectedly calm while talking to Skylar
Perhaps it was because Skylar had divorced Joe; they shared a similar fate, creating a mutual
understanding. For the first time in a while, Vera felt some peace. Lately, she hadn’t experienced any calmness.
Skylar frowned. She felt that Viola coincidental.
recent death and Molly’s sudden car accident were too
Someone wanted Molly dead, or perhaps they feared she knew too much. As for Viola, she had foreseen her own death.
Joe would likely uncover some truths soon, and the police would investigate further, so these matters weren’t hers to worry about for now.
What concerned her was the statue in front of her, which puzzled her.
“This statue isn’t really dangerous, is it? I shouldn’t have trusted Molly in the first place. I was so out of it, and she managed to trick her with just a few words,” Vera said regretfully.
Skylar turned the statue over to examine the back. Then, she looked up and asked, “Have you been sleeping poorly lately?”
Vera nodded vigorously. “Yes! Every time I close my eyes, I feel restless and agitated. I can’t calm down, and I barely get three hours of sleep a night.”
“That makes sense. This statue will gradually make you irritable and unable to stay calm. On top of that, as you encounter more bad luck, the negative energy around you increases, and the good fortune you once had is absorbed by the statue and transferred to its true owner, Skylar said, feeling increasingly uneasy as she spoke.
