Chapter 193 Showing One's True Colors
Chapter 193 Showing One's True Colors
Loraine jogged towards Irene and Edric's side and saw that a paper cup had fallen on the ground.
Water was splashed everywhere. She acted surprised and asked, "What happened?"
"Mrs. Myers is in poor health, and Mr. Myers is in a bad mood," John explained.
Loraine was a professional in reading situations. Since John was trying to dissuade Edric, she knew in
an instant what just happened. Irene must have tried to pass a cup of water to Edric, but he did not
appreciate it and had knocked over the cup. She was secretly pleased.
Irene's face was flustered. She had noticed that Edric's lips were dry and cracked, so she poured him a
cup of water. Who would have thought that Edric wouldn't have appreciated it and instead knocked it
over with a wave? He even spat out that she was pretending to be kind.
Edric had always treated Irene well. Even when he divorced her years ago, he had never snapped at
her like that. Irene felt somewhat aggrieved. If she had not been worried about Margaret, she would
have left a long time ago.
She did not stay at the sides to wait for the results anymore. Her pregnant body was sore after standing
for such a long time. So, she massaged her waist while Edric glued his eyes on the operating room. His
expression was gloomy, and she had no idea what was on his mind.
John noticed Irene's actions and knew that it was because she had stood for a long time. Hence, he
spoke to Irene kindly, "Miss Nelson, you're still pregnant. You must be tired from standing after such a
long time. It's better to go home and rest. I'll inform you once there's any news."
Edric looked at Irene after hearing John's words. His face remained indifferent and cold as he snapped,
"Why are you still here? Are you waiting to see how miserable my mother would be?"
Irene did not speak. She knew that Edric was sorrowful, so she did not bother about him.
Loraine was excited upon hearing this and she added, "Miss Nelson, you'd better go back. It's useless
to stay here, and it's annoying for Mr. Myers."
Irene glared at Loraine. That woman was the cause of it all. If it weren't for what she had said, Edric
would not treat her like this. Why did this woman say all those words? What was she plotting?
She really wanted to question Loraine, but when she thought of Margaret's ongoing operation, she held
her temper. At that moment, her phone rang.
Irene had not gone home since she came out. Thomas called to ask about her as he was worried. So,
Irene explained to him about Margaret's injuries in a soft voice. She also told him that she was still in
the hospital and would go home later that day.
Finally, the door of the operating room opened, and the nurse was pushing Margaret out.
"How did it go?" The few people who were waiting outside suddenly gathered around.
The doctor appeared from behind and answered, "The patient has suffered a severe intracranial
hemorrhage and is in a deep coma. She may never wake up again. You all have to be mentally
prepared."
Edric's face darkened significantly, "Is there no other way?"
"The best-case scenario might be this, while the worst.." The doctor did not finish his sentence. He
indirectly meant that the worst-case scenario would be that Margaret was never wake up again.
Edric's body trembled for a moment. Irene reached out to hold him, but he pushed her away, "What
kind of good person are you pretending to be?"
Loraine did not witness the scene of Edric knocking over the cup with her own eyes, but she saw this
scene clearly. Edric's face was filled with anger, and he glared at Irene coldly with hatred.
John reached out his hand to hold Edric, "Calm down, Mr. Myers. We don't know what happened. Do
you know how heart-wrenching your actions are?"
Loraine scolded John in her heart, "D*mn it, John. What are you doing at this time?" However, she did
not dare to add more fuel to the fire. Both Edric and John were not fools. She needed to describe what
she had witnessed objectively so that Edric would blame it on Irene.
After sending Margaret to the intensive care unit, Edric asked John to find two professional guards to
take care of Margaret. Then, he spat coldly, "Let's go home!"
Loraine knew that he was heading home for an investigation. She was slightly nervous, but she knew
that there was no loophole in what she had done, so she caught up with Edric. Seeing Edric striding
away, John immediately followed him. Irene was stunned for a moment, before following them.
They quickly drove back to the Myers Family. Edric opened the door and strode into the living room.
The living room was still the same as before. Edric glanced around and told John, "Call in all the staff in
the villa today."
John agreed. Soon, the security guards and the driver were called in.
Edric looked at the security guards, "Did anyone else come here today?"
"Yes," The security guard returned, "Dr. Walker was here before."
"Dr. Walker said that he had brought some beauty products from abroad for Mrs. Myers," Loraine
pointed to the things in the living room that Marie had brought.
Edric picked up the stuff sent by Marie and looked at it. Then, he put it down and asked, "When did Dr.
Walker leave?"
"Dr. Walker left at noon," Loraine answered.
Edric nodded and looked at the security guards, "Well, show me the surveillance records outside."
"Today's surveillance records are not complete, and the power was cut off for a few hours," the security
guard replied.
"There was a blackout? When did it start?"
"It stopped after Dr. Walker had arrived for some time. The blackout lasted for around two hours," The
security guard answered.
Edric frowned all of a sudden. He had planned to observe the surveillance records to see the specific
situation during Marie's arrival. Still, the power had been cut off at that time. How would there be
surveillance without electricity?
"Wait, the security guard said that it was a blackout when Marie came. Does Marie have something to
do with my mother's coma?" Edric thought and glanced at the people in the room. He said, "When did
you last see Mrs. Myers? Tell me the details."
"Mrs. Myers didn't look for me for anything today, so I've been staying in the driver's seat, until I heard
that something had happened to Madam," the driver answered.
Levin, the security guard, thought for a moment and answered, "Mrs. Myers didn't go out today, nor did
she take a walk. The last time I saw Mrs. Myers was when she was unconscious."
Another security guard added, "I saw Mrs. Myers when I reported the power supply situation. At that
time, she was sitting with Loraine in the living room. I left after reporting the situation."
At that moment, the security guard was standing by the living room's entrance when he reported. He
only saw Margaret's back, so he could not have known that Margaret was already unconscious at that
time.
Edric frowned. That was to say, when Marie left, Margaret was still in good condition.
Loraine replied, "The last time I saw Mrs. Myers was when she fell to the floor. There was a palm print
on her face, and Miss Nelson was giving her first aid..."
"Wait a minute!" Edric interrupted her, "Didn't Mrs. Myers ask you to send the bird's nest?"
"Yes, Madam requested me to find the bird's nest last night. She explained that she wanted to brew
some for Miss Nelson. So, Mrs. Myers got up early in the morning to prepare the bird's nest herself and
refused my assistance."
"Since Madam brewed the bird's nest herself, why did she ask you to send it over?" Edric probed
further.
"Madam wanted to deliver it personally at first, but Dr. Walker dropped by unexpectedly. Her
conversation with Dr. Walker delayed her plans, and Madam tends to have the habit of napping in the
afternoon. So, it was already afternoon by the time they were done chatting. Hence, she tasked me to
deliver the bird's nest," Loraine explained.
Naturally, Edric knew about Margaret's stubborn habit of napping in the afternoon. Edric faced the
security guard and asked, "Was there anything else that happened afterwards?"
"No. Later, the two of us stayed in the security room, and no one came. We didn't notice any
movements until Loraine and Miss Nelson arrived."
"You can leave now," Edric instructed Loraine, the security guards, and the driver to leave. Only John,
Edric, and Irene were left in the living room. He was silent for a moment before looking at Irene, "I want
to hear your side of the story."
"I've said everything. When I found the saffron in the bird's nest, I wanted to ask Mrs. Myers about it
with Loraine. While she went to answer a phone call, I went upstairs to find Mrs. Myers. I shouted a few
times, but no one answered. When I opened the door, I saw her body on the ground..."
"Irene, do you think your words are enough to convince people?" Edric interrupted her fiercely. "My
mother was fine before you came, and you were the only person who saw her in this condition. You
better tell the truth. What did you do to my mother to make her be in a coma now?"
"Edric, you're not being reasonable," Irene's face was red from anger, "Didn't I just say that she was
already lying on the floor when I went in?"
"Do you think that someone will believe what you just said?" Edric's eyes glowered with coldness.
"Irene, just admit what you've done. Since you've done it, you should admit your mistake. Tell me, did
you accidentally push her?"
"Edric, how many times do I have to explain myself until you're willing to believe me? I didn't push her!"
Irene was infuriated. The feeling of being wronged was frustrating indeed.
"Who can prove your innocence?" Edric asked. "There was a clear palm print on my mother's face.
How dare you say that you didn't hit her out of anger?"
"I didn't hit her. Edric, I really didn't hit her," Irene realized that she could not prove her innocence at this
point.
"Don't deny it. I saw you hitting her with my own eyes last time. Just because of the fact that I loved
you, I chose to tolerate it. However, why didn't you learn from your mistake at all? Irene, just admit your
actions. Did you beat my mother and push her to the ground, causing her injury? I know your purpose
wasn't to hurt her like this. It's just an accident, so it's okay. As long as you admit it, I'll forgive you for
the sake of your pregnancy."
"How can I admit something that I didn't do? Edric, how can you doubt me like this?" Irene shouted.
"It's not that I suspect you, but the facts are all in front of me now. Irene, I'm really disappointed in you!
My mother has taken the initiative to apologize to you. Why did you do this to her? I know that my
mother used to mistreat you. You must have done something to her because you hate her."
"You're being unreasonable!" Irene was infuriated. "Edric, let me tell you, slandering someone is a
crime. You've said that I had pushed your mother down, so you have to bring out the evidence! Edric, if
you suspect me, call the police immediately and let the police deal with it. Give me some justice."
"Do you think that I won't do anything to you? Irene, the heavens are watching, and there's a limit to my
patience!" Edric bellowed.
"As I had said, if you really doubt me, you can call the police," Irene could not bear it anymore.
"Good! You win! Irene, this matter will not be settled like this. Just you wait and see. I'll never let you
go!"© NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
