The maids exchanged incredulous glances, shocked that Mayra spoke to Anderson in such a manner.
Frowning, Julia couldn’t help but speak up, “Don’t be rude, Ms. Sadler.”
Although Anderson’s tone sounded angry, there was an inexplicable. gentleness about him. He put down his dignified demeanor -which was rare– and tapped Mayra’s plate with a fork. “Come eat. You can go later. Don’t get hungry on the way.”
With her hands on her hips, Mayra walked over to Anderson’s left side and sat down. Then, she proceeded to gobble down the food.
Isabel, who remained silent, walked over and sat down on the other side. She even served Mayra a bowl of soup. “Why don’t you come with us later? I’m drop you off on the way.”
Mayra nodded. “Okay.”
“Focus on eating. No talking during meals,” Anderson interjected.
Isabel said, “It’s okay. I like hearing Mayra talk. The table is too quiet without her voice anyway. I’m not quite used to that.”
Her obvious attempt to please Mayra was not lost on her.
Isabel loved Anderson so much that she was willing to compromise herself for him.
“Try this. I don’t know if you’ve had it before. It’s called honey–glazed ham.”
“Thank you, Isa,” Mayra said.
Isabel continued, “Andy and I have already been to your school and greeted your teachers. It’s also to make up for the parents‘ meeting we missed last time.
“Your homeroom teacher praised you, saying you’ve made remarkable progress in your grades recently. We also found the best private tutor for
you.
Upon hearing that they had been to the school, Mayra broke into a cold. sweat. If Anderson were to find out about her rumored relationship with Gordon, he would be furious beyond measure.
But judging by his current demeanor, he clearly had no idea.
“Can the private tutor be Gordon?” Mayra cautiously asked.
As she glanced at Anderson and met his icy gaze, her voice grew softer.” What I mean is, Gordon’s family is struggling, and his mom is ill-”
Before she could finish explaining, Anderson interrupted with a firm no. “Why? Gordon has been offered a full– ride scholarship to the University of Belchester. He can easily teach me, so why can’t he be my tutor?”
However, Anderson didn’t give her a chance to explain further. “Don’t think I don’t know what you’re thinking. There’s no room for negotiation on this mat
“Why so fierce, old coot?” Mayra dared not speak any further.
Isabel quickly intervened, “Mayra, Andy and I will discuss this matter. Don’t argue over it. Let’s just eat first.”
After finishing lunch, they left together in a car, with Mayra seated in the passenger seat.
On the way, she didn’t say a word to Anderson. When they reached the city center, the car stopped by the roadside.
In the car, Anderson’s warning voice sounded. “Mayra, what I said to you is not up for negotiation.” Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
With a forceful slam, Mayra shut the door, shutting out his words.
“I’ve spoiled her too much.”
Seeing Anderson’s angry expression, Isabel gently grasped his hand and said in a soft tone, “Alright, don’t be angry anymore. After all, Mayra’s intention
After the car left, Mayra hailed a cab to Paramount Hall.
She walked into the courtyard of Paramount Hall and shouted, “Gordon!”
As soon as she said that, she saw Emily coming out of Gordon’s room carrying a basin of water.
“Mayra, what are you doing here?”
Mayra asked directly, “Where’s Gordon?”
Emily avoided her gaze and said hesitantly, “He’s not here.”
But at that moment, Mayra heard the sound of a guy coughing coming from the room.
