Chapter 144

The living room was eerily silent, filled with a deathly stillness.

The sound of a palm slapping the table echoed violently, causing the water in the glasses to spill over. It was clear that Sonia was

extremely angry.

“How dare she steal from the Barlow family? She’s already capable of doing such things at such a young age. Call the police and have them keep her locked up for a few more days. That’ll teach her a lesson.”

Julia echoed, “Madam Sonia, she has only been in the Barlow mansion for a few days and has either been causing trouble or relying on Mr. Anderson to do as she pleases.

“If this continues, what will happen when Ms. Fisher moves in? We can’t let her stay in the mansion with Mr. Anderson and Mrs. Barlow.” Sonia’s eyes glinted as she looked at Julia. “Do you have a solution?” Julia suggested, “Madam Sonia, Mr. Anderson is only keeping Mayra around to repay a life–saving debt. Why don’t we help him by repaying this favor ourselves?

“We can find a good family to adopt Mayra. This way, she’ll have a proper home and someone to discipline her. Moreover, it’ll prevent her presence from causing you any further trouble.”

Sonia nodded. “That’s a good idea.”

The clock struck midnight.

Sonia yawned while covering her mouth. “Alright, it’s late. We’ll discuss this further tomorrow. Let her reflect in the police station for now. We’ll talk about the adoption later.”

Julia replied, “Yes, Madam Sonia.”

Caroline helped Sonia upstairs. Back in the room, Caroline opened the items Julia had brought back. “How strange.”

Sonia asked, “What’s strange?” Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.

Caroline took out a jewelry box and a letter. “Madam Sonia, look at this. If Mayra stole Mr. Anderson’s money to buy this emerald bracelet, she would’ve chosen a design she liked.

“The design doesn’t seem like something she would wear. And the

size… It looks like it’s for Ms. Fisher.”

“Are you sure?” Sonia frowned, her eyes full of doubt.

Caroline explained, “Madam Sonia, I’ve personally overseen all of Ms. Fisher’s jewelry from childhood. How could I not know her size? Moreover, with the engagement approaching, I was the one who personally selected the gifts for the Fisher family.

“This emerald bracelet is from Emerald Pavilion. How could I not

recognize it?”

Sonia’s eyes narrowed when she heard the explanation. “What is Mayra up to?”

“It’s hard to say. It looks like a peace offering for Ms. Fisher. There’s also a suit for Mr. Anderson, with embroidery patterns that Ms. Fisher

loves.”

Caroline handed the black suit to Sonia, who examined the

embroidery closely. She squinted her eyes and touched the embroidered pattern on it, confirming that it was indeed as described.

Sonia was a shrewd and astute woman. Back when George was alive, he had six mistresses. After the reforms, he ultimately kept her by his

side.

Through all the ups and downs, she had seen a lot from all the schemings and rivalries.

Yet, at this moment, she found herself unable to see through Mayra’s

actions.

This was interesting.

Sonia set the items down. “Let’s rest. We’ll deal with this tomorrow.”

“Yes, Madam Sonia.”

At 4:30 am, the sky was still dark.

Mayra had spent the entire night crouched in the corner without moving.

Her legs were still weak as she sat in the police car. She refused to speak to anyone. She kept her head down and remained silent.
