In the front seat, Mayra leaned against the car window. She managed to quell her discomfort during the ride. When they reached her school, she hurried out without a word to Anderson.
In her past life, Mayra wouldn’t have possibly tolerated Hailey. But her emotions were now mixed as she remembered that Hailey was the only one who stood by her in her previous life.
She didn’t particularly like or dislike Hailey. She just found her more favorable to Isabel, whom Mayra saw as a hypocrite -though Anderson seemed to prefer Isabel’s type.
Hailey’s self–control was lacking. Her body’s desires and her allergy to the drugs nearly overwhelmed her. Fortunately, the Barlow mansion had various medications, so she took the allergy pills in time. Otherwise, she might not have made it through the night.
“Mr. Barlow, could you please drop me off at the hospital?” Hailey asked. ” You can leave me by the road. I can get a cab from there.”
Anderson remained silent and instructed the driver to head to the hospital.
At the hospital, Hailey took blood tests and an allergy screening under a specialist. After her tests, she sat on a bench and closed her eyes to rest.
Vague memories from the night before surfaced. There were moments of warmth, but most of the time, it felt almost deadly. Anderson’s actions were those of a player -irresistible and inescapable unless he chose to end it.
